Potential 8A Districts

Soucie did a lot of this work already, but technically Plainfield North is closer to Edwardsville than Lockport so I tweaked that and by doing that I came up with this. I don't think districts will pass but it will be close. Ultimately I think the proposal put forward is just too incomplete to support so I'm against it, but if it does pass what Soucie came up with, this slight modification or something similar I think will be the 8A districts. 8A is the easiest to model out of the classes because you presumably know who the largest 64 teams are. After that it gets hazy as to which schools from the CPS will be eligible and just a bunch of other stuff. So here are my 8A district predictions if this ultimately does happen.

I'd be curious as to who your playoff picks for next year would be considering the top 4 in each district qualify for the playoffs. My playoff picks are bolded.

Parent / Coach Boundaries

Question for parents of current or very recently graduated football players.

How, if at all, has your kid's head coach created boundaries for parents? (eg limiting conversation about kids to certain times, not discussing playing time, etc). What coaches do it well?

I am seeing more and more coaches retire from coaching early and almost always the reason is they don't want to deal with parents anymore. Only a few seem to be able to keep parents at bay and most of them have VERY long resumes with lots of success.

We talk about the ref shortage, but I think the coach shortage (at least of experienced quality coaches) doesn't get much play.

I remember when I played a parent would rarely reach out to a coach on any topic other than recruiting and the coaches were pretty much left to do their job (unless there was a MAJOR issue). however, hearing some parents at both of my kids' schools, you would think that parents want to be an extended member of the coaching staff.

To be clear, I don't want this to turn into a thread about the Hinsdale Central girl's basketball situation. However I think it is very similar to the pressure that many coaches, especialy in wealthy districts deal with.

QB Ethan Plumb St Charles North 6-foot-3, 195 pounds 2025- Big, strong kid with a ton of upside physically. Advanced signal caller with impressive maturity and fundamentals.

QB Jack Elliott Chicago Mount Carmel 6-foot-1, 180 pounds 2025- His 2025 season no question helped boost his recruiting stock 10 fold. Has a very strong and accurate arm and also developed into a true RPO threat.

QB Jackson Alcorn Central High 6-foot-1, 180 pounds 2025

QB Colton Gumino York 6-foot-2, 165 pounds 2025- Had a huge 2023 season. Good size kid with a big arm talent and a player who will add much more strength down the line. Very accurate passer along with plays with a high football IQ.

QB Chase Hansen Breese Mater Dei 6-foot-0, 180 pounds

QB Logan Malachuk Nazareth Academy 5-foot-11, 170 pounds 2025- Big time talent who is a fierce competitor. Has been just simply a winner for the Road Runners who just finds a way to win and comes up clutch in key situations time and time again.

IHSA December meeting

Nothing major to note. Looks like an adjustment to qualify for state tournaments done in reference to what happened with the volleyball/soccer fiasco this fall. Some eligibility rulings.

Noted a discussion took place on football districts. Also discussion on state seeding for all sports.

Time to move to “Open” Division for Playoffs?

Starting a thread on whether IL (like CA, AZ, HI, NV etc..) should implement an “open” division? An open division where a rotating set # of teams gets selcted from an unbiased committee each year based on certain strength criteria. (Like in CA with Mater Dei, St. John Bosco, Centennial etc)
This could end the eternally exhausting Catholic vs. Public debate because of recruiting/lack of boundaries and allows the best set of teams each year to play each other regardless of class. Catholic schools can recruit and pull in kids from any city like they always do without criticism from public schools since the best of those schools will play for the open division. What is the best argument for and against this? It seems to me that the larger football states might also want to consider this as well. (e.g. IL, OH, FL, TX, AL, etc..)

North Central College Survives & Advances To Championship

D3 North Central College (Naperville) , trailing in the 4th quarter, comes from behind to knock off undefeated (13-0) Wartburg College (Iowa) 34-27. The Cardinals advance to the National Championship game next week, seeking their 3rd title in four years. Today was the first time NCC had trailed in any game all season. Wartburg had the ball deep in NCC territory in the final minutes but were turned away by the Cardinal defense. Super exciting game linked below. https://www.espn.com/espnplus/player/_/id/a7db2ac2-2033-4fda-bdcf-ea3782bdfbc6#bucketId=7952

What school closed, consolidated, dropped football do you miss the most? Tell me about them

What team(s) do you guys miss? Tell me about their school,good/great teams they had, helmet logos, football field, etc . I miss all but I'll start with Joliet East the Kingsmen. Kelly Green,Gold & White. Unique looking E on the helmets like E on Eckrich Sausage. Closed at the end of the 1982-1983 school year by a vote of 4-3. The deciding vote to close was cast by a board member who had kids at East. Never made the state playoffs but had a pretty good team in 1978 6-3. They went 8-1 in 1967 & won the Illini 8 & finished 4-5 playing a brutal schedule of much bigger schools. They were supposed to play Joliet West,Joliet Central but the Sica took over those 2 schools schedules & cancelled East. Joliet Central was originally supposed to close at the end of the 1981-1982 school year by a 5-2 or 6-1 vote but a board member owned a store down the street from Central so they put it in limbo & new board members were voting the next year. The school is now a job corps & they have/are supposed to tear down the stands, lights & scoreboard, field & ticket booths & build a warehouse there I believe :(

Missouri title game ends early as CBC quits

Surprised to not see any thread about this story.

Missouri's Class 6 title game this past weekend was stopped with over 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Perennial power CBC was going for a 3rd straight title, but Liberty North was out for revenge after losing to CBC the past two years.

To me this seems like a school who isn't used to losing having a hard time accepting their fate. Story mentions 4 unsportsmanlike penalties (3 on CBC) in 4th quarter. Sounds like the game was getting out of hand, but would expect the CBC coach to get his team under control and finish the game.

Seems to be sending a poor message to his players by asking for game to end early. Maybe he comes from the same coaching philosophy as IC's coach...when it gets tough, just give up.

Congrats to Darrion Dupree, Sun Times and Daily Southtown Player of the Year

First MC players since 1981 to be named Sun Times POY and so very deserving. I know some people may disagree because other players may have had better overall numbers but Dupree was a special talent that did as much for his team when he didn't get the ball then when he did, because every team focused on him, which free'd up so many more options for MC. When he did get the ball he had jaw dropping after jaw dropping touchdown runs and receptions. And even as a decoy he still had 1,100 yards rushing and 800 yards receiving and 24 touchdowns, and did so playing a schedule that included State Champion LA, Runner Up ESL, Semifinalist and 4th ranked Batavia, rival St. Rita twice and quarterfinal teams Carmel, Morgan Park, and semifinalist Providence. Well done Darrion, I think we will be hearing about him in College and possibly beyond.
