Impact Player for Wheaton Academy

Wheaton Academy senior WR/DB Gino Spinelli (6-foot-0, 175 pounds) was an impressive go getting and playmaker for the Warriors in 2023. Spinelli made severasl big plays on both sides of the football and will again be asked to step up and never leave the fiewld in 2024.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Wheaton Academy? Keep an eye on Wheaton Academy Kolonati "Typ" Zibaya, is a native to South Africa came to Wheaton Academy on his own initiative and joined football his sophomore year. Previously a rugby player, Typ has become an exceptional defensive tackle and will be playing college football.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Wheaton Academy Warriors

Wheaton Academy and head coach Jim Johanek are coming off a historic 2023 season which saw the Warriors post an 11-2 record, it's best finish in school history. . The Warriors made the 2023 Class 4A state semifinal round losing to St .Laurence. Head coach Jim Johanek has made the IHSA state playoff field in every season in his tenure and has posted an overall record of 32-8 in four seasons.

The biggest question for Wheaton Academy heading into 2024?

Can the Warriors reload at a few key positions and make another deep run in 2024? The Warriors welcome back a strong core of returning starters (8 offense 7 defense) but finding some strong newcomers at a few key spots this summer (QB/DL/DB) is a top priority. Also of note....the schedule for the Warriors is pretty stacked and this team will no question will get tested week in and week out this fall.

Preseason Ranking? Chicagoland Top 30 and Class 4A Top 10 consideration.

My Take: North Central College Camp Wednesday 2025

The North Central College camp remains one of my favorite camps of all....it's well run by by the great staff and players at NCC and the only real negative was a lightning delay which basically forced all one on one and positional on the field work to be done indoors (again very hard to get a decent judgement oin a gym floor) so my take is more from an eyeball passing/testing obervations.

As I will always mention whenever I cover camps.....it's a monumental task to watch, evaluate and connect with 300 plus kids at once....but I try my best here. I can and will miss seeing evaluating your son and I will miss seeing some great prospects. It happens.

Also important....this is a work in progress and I will remove this once the feature has been edited and completed, I highly suggest not sharing (which is a direct violation of your agreement here FYII) until this feature is completed. Also of note....my roster was missing some numbers I'm assuming these were walk ups... and are listed as such (for the kids I knew) and I'll try to get a final roster.

So Who Stood Out (Red Jerseys Class of 2025)

1 WR Sasha Summers St Viator
- Checked in at 6-foot-7, 191 pounds and is maybe one of the most intriguing kids at this camp. Didn't see any of his testing times but on the hoof Sasha will draw a ton of up close looks this summer. Having a QB Like Cooper Kmet also fares well for Sasha this fall.

2 K Casey Roney West Aurora Was very impressive in the kicking workout before the full camp started here. Big time leg with impressive accuracy.

3 QB Cooper Kmet St Viator- At this stage of his recruiting I can say that Kmet seems to be a bit under the radar. Cooper has a live arm, runs well and has all the tools to develop into a strong Division 1 level signal caller.

7 QB Jack Skoog Prospect Big kid here (6-foot-3, 160 pounds) who easily passes the all important eyeball test. Looked impressive in the testing phase and throws a strong nd accurate pass. Will need to add more weight/strength down the line but has the frame that will allow that to happen.

8 QB Holland Harris Morton (Hammond Indiana) interesting player here has great size (6-foot-5, 190 pounds) and length and I can see higher level schools look at him as say a WR as well as QB.

9 QB Jacob Bell Naperville North- Just committed to Ball State and it's pretty easy to see why he will play D1. Big, strong and very impressive kids on the hoof. Bell also has a very strong arm, carries himself well on and off the field. Primed for a big time breakout in 2024.

11 WR Jimmie Maxson III Brother Rice- Liked Jimmie's film and in person he has great length and size and looks pretty college ready now physically.

12 WR Amari Williams Wheaton South- Just committed to NIU, Williams caught my eye in registration and also in testing. Williams is a sleek, twitchy athlete who has a chance to make some noise foir the Huskies down the line.

14 WR Coy Taylor St Joseph Ogden - Slot type of receiver who has some quickness, showed good hands and went hard on every rep.

22 WR Rich Schilling Wheaton North

25 WR Isaiah Brown Batavia- Nice looking athlete here who made the most out of the positional work phase of the camp. Moved well in the testing phase and with some added weight and strength could become a nice addition to say the FCS level.

37 RB Keoni George Tinley Park- Something is in the water in TP and was one of a handful of really impressive Titans at this camp. George has good size and physical tools.

40 LB Freddy Brown Morton- Long and athletic linebacker here with a big wingspan and was also impressive in positional work.

43 LB James Kingsbury St Rita -Highly advanced linebacker who has been a varsity starter since his freshman season. Runs and covered well here and I see FCS level ability.

45 TE Brady Goken Wheaton South- I liked Brady's junior film and he backed it up at this camp with a strong showing. I wanted to see more from Brady in one on one...but I'm only human people and can't watch 400 kids at once so....

52 DE Saif Kokoszka Glenbard South- This is like the 200th time seeing Saif live and he never disappoints. Has added increased size and strength, runs well and is just an athletic playmaker. I see FCS/D2 level tools and ability here.

54 SS Treycen Bownes Plainfield North- First time seeing Treycen in person and he's an impressive player and athlete. Has good length and will add more weight and strength over the next year plus. Was impressed with his overall cover skills and back peddle as well.

63 OL Liam Carney Wauconda - Big Red (OK I made that nickname up) has the size and makeup at 6-foot-5, 286 pounds to play on Saturday's. Made some good stops and gave up some in one on ones but he was very teachable according to the coaches. Carney is a name who will no question draw more looks this summer and fall.

64 OL Matthew Murphy St Ignatius- Has played only one year of football and that showed here at times...but again Matthew has impressive physical tools (6-foot-7, 297 pounds) including bend and quicknes. More and more schools will have him on their radar screens this fall. With a lot more hard work this kid has a chance.

71 DE Nolan Daly Nazareth Academy Bigger sized DL name to watch this summer and fall. Showed some good flashes in one on ones but needs to do that more consistently rep in and rep out.

75 DE Jonathan Collier Tinley Park- Showed some real quickness and bend in one on ones coming off the edge. Also made some nice 1on1 moves and adjustments and I was also impressed with his overall athletic ability here.

76 DE Kevin Hippner Lockport-Has some nice size and tools and is a long and lanky edge rusher with some ability and potential.

91 OL Donte Green Plainfield South I liked Donte Green at the Rise and Fire Camp and he was also good here as well. Big dude with some quickness and has still room to improve as well. Would love to see him this summer in pads.

93 DE Ryan Mascari Neuqua Valley- Another kid who has a great motor and goes hard on every rep. A tweener type positionally who is getting better and better as a linemen after playing tight end for several years.

So Who Stood Out (Black Jerseys Class of 2026)

1 QB Jesse Padron St Charles East- Great looking athlete on the hoof who caught my attention at check in. Still young and developing but has the look of a kid who will be a name to watch down the line.

3 QB Brady Palmer St Francis- Stock is already blowing up and for good reason. Palmer has all the attributes you look for in a high level QB. Impressed with his arm talent, poise and ability to make hard throws look routine. Potential major D1 caliber dude here.

14 QB Asa Johnson Aurora Christian
17 QB Johnny O'Brien Fremd
17 QB Keller Stocks Mt. Zion
22 RB Isaac Alexander Montini Catholic
34 LB Lesroy Tittle Nazareth Academy
49 FS Andrew Hoffman Neuqua Valley
55 LB Logan Abrams Cary Grove
57 DT Dhani Drummer St Francis
58 LB Axel Broeker Wheaton South
63 OT Zachary Hultgren Central (Burlington)
70 DE Roman Sosnovyy Lyons Township
74 DE Jake Jimenez Plainfield North
77 OL Levi Mallette Chicago Hope
81 WR Sheko Gjokaj St Charles East
83 LB Patrick Cheney Lyons Township
85 WR Dario Milivojevic St Francis
No jersey number on roster DB Seth Valeri St Francis

So Who Stood Out (White Jerseys Class of 2027)

6 QB AJ Rayford Providence Catholic
20 RB Timmie Lewis III Bolingbrook
59 LB Noah Swaw Tinley Park
76 DE Christopher Murphy St Ignatius
77 OL Maxwell Schveneman Neuqua Valley
90 DE Chris Paden Tinley Park
No jersey number on roster OL Ethan Posey Lockport

Impact Player for Cary Grove

Cary Grove junior to be FB Logan Abrams (6-foot-3, 230 pounds) had a monster 2023 season in leading the Trojans to a Class 6A state title last fall. Look for Abrams to draw increased recruiting attention this coming summer and fall. Look for Abrams, who is also an accomplished long snapper for the Trojans to draw recruiting attention as a fullback and/or as a linebacker.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Cary Grove? Keep an eye on Cary Grove junior OL Jack Hissong who had an impressive 2023 sophomore season at the varsity for Cary Grove.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Cary Grove Trojans

Cary Grove and head coach Brad Seaburg led the Trojans to the 2023 Class 6A state titlw win an impressive 12-2 run capped off with a win over East St. Louis in the Class 6A state final game.

The biggest question for Cary Grove heading into 2024?

Can the Trojans reload at some key spots and get back to Illinois State in late November? The Trojans graduated a very strong senioir class this past spring....yet this program has always found a way to reload and keep winning. Cary Grove welcomes back 6 starters on offense and includes strength up the middle in OC Burton. QB Seaburg and FB Abrams which is huge for the Trojans Flexbone option offense. Look for Cary Grove to again be a state titlw contender in 2024 in Class 6A

My Take: North Central College Camp Tuesday Who Stood Out 2026/2027

My Take: Who Stood Out North Central College Tuesday Class of 2025

I'm a bit behind getting up to date on my recent camp travels....and as soon as I can nail down a camp roster from the Rise and Fire Camp on Sunday I will have that recap posted as soon as possible.

I can and will miss seeing evaluating your son andf I will miss seeing some great prospects. It happens.

Black Jerseys (2026)

3 QB Brady Palmer St Francis
Another of the many top underclassmen quarterback names to watch here. Palmer is starting to draw increased looks and now offers this summer to no ones surprise. Palmer has ideal size and physical tools, is a fluid athlete and looks mechanically sound with a very easy release and throwing motion. Palmer again just has a ton of upside and could very well have a huge breakout in his recruiting stock this summer and fall... IF he wins the starting QB job at St Francis which looks to be amajor battle this summer.

4 QB Colin Ford Waubonsie Valley- One of the more intriguing names to watch this fall. Ford is a big kid (6-foot-4, 190 pounds) who looks physically college ready in many ways right now. Ford also throws a strong and accurate ball and I can see his stock also take off with good early junior season video.

14 WR Asa Johnson Aurora Christian- Big and tall kid here (6-foot-2, 198 pounds) who looks the part and who will draw much more recruiting looks this fall.

63 OT Zachary Hultgren Central (Burlington)- Zachary was maybe one of the biggest upside guys in this group of strong underclassmen linemen. Measured in at 6-foot-5, 277 pounds and moves well, is a very fluid runner and athlete. No question this is a name who can see his recruiting stock take off sooner rather than later.

64 DT James Alexander ICCP - Inside mauler type of defensive tackle who also has good strength and is a name who I really wanted to watch in one on ones before the rain/lightning delay took ahold of this camp.

67 OL Connor Ahoyt Joliet Catholic- Measured in at 6-foot-2, 266 pounds and will be one of several underclassmen who will need to step into a starting role this fall for the Hillmen. Ahoyt looks strong and very capable of playing anywhere on the offensive line.

69 DE Matthew Bending Central (Burlington)- Another big framed kid here who measured in at 6-foot-4, 209 pounds and has the frame to add much more good weight and sixe over the next few years. Moved well in the testing/agility work.

77 OL Levi Mallett Chicago Hope - Another impressive underclassmen here. Levi I feel can play on either side of the football at the higher college level. Mallett has impressive strength and plays with a high level of physicality at all times. Plays offensive line very well, is pretty sound technically and just has an impressive motor. Again I can see his eventual college position as say a high level OC/OG...yet I also just like Levi's overall approach and plays really hard on every rep.

85 LB Hunter Niklos Yorkville- Speedy and athletic kid who no question has a chance to really shine this coming season playing in his new school at Yorkville. Cracking the starting lineup will be a challenge for a pretty stacked Foxes program...but Niklos has the ability ro play any number of positions if needed.

88 TE Hunter Stepanich York- York just seems to crank out these big and physical WR/TE types in crazy numbers lately. Measured in at 6-foot-7, 220 pounds and I'm excited to see how his game develops in 2024 and beyond. Has the eyeball passing look as a name to watch big time in the Class of 2026.

89 WR Gavin Matejko St Charles East- Just another good sized athlete where who caught my eye in the testing/drill work and someone I'll go back and watch more video of this summer.

White Jerseys (2027)

4 QB Ben Peterson Genev
a- Great sized player here (6-foot-4, 210 pounds) who at times looks to be college ready physically...which for a 2027 kid is crazy. No question Peterson will need to show well on video this fall and with some good tape could also see his stock rise in a big way this fall.

11 QB Oliver Valdez Glenbard West- Caught my attention in the little bit of quarterback work I saw before the lightning came here. Looks to have good size and physical tools to become a pretty strong [player for the Hitters sooner rather than later.

83 WR Quentin Burrell Mount Carmel- Has the look and physical makeup of a big time player and recruit on the rise here. Measured in at 6-foot-2, 186 pounds and runs well, showed to have really impressive body control and just has the feel of a Big Time name recruit in my opinion. Will draw several offers if he can get onto the field this fall for the Caravan...no small task for any underclassmen.

85 WR Curtis Stubbs Providence Catholic Wow....another wildly impressive kid on the hoof here. Stubbs measured in at 6-foot-3, 191 pounds who has the overall physical makeup and tools to become a Power 4 name. I'm just super excited for Stubbs upside and potential and he will be a Top Ranked kid nationally in the Class of 2027 in my opinion.

My Take: North Central College Tuesday Who Stood Out 2025

I'm a bit behind getting up to date on my recent camp travels....and as soon as I can nail down a camp roster from the Rise and Fire Camp on Sunday I will have that recap posted as soon as possible.

Who Stood Out: North Central College Tuesday Class of 2026/2027

So Who Stood Out?

Red Jerseys (2025)

11 QB Nick Peipert Barrington-
I've seen Nick a handful of tines this spring/summer and her's one of a handful of 2025 QB's who I feel has D1 level talent and potential. Peipert just does a lot of things well and is a steady, consistently strong thrower and a solid overall athlete.

14 TE Grant Smith Maroa Forsyth- Good sized kid here (6-foot-5, 212 pounds) who passesa the all important eyeball test. Looked to move pretty well in testing and could also draw looks at say TE/DE?

15 TE Jonathon Helm Glenwood - One of the many Helm kids from Glenwood who is an impressive athlete and has size (6-foot-5, 196 pounds) and some strong physical tools. I saw Jonathon a year ago in 7on7 and his ball skills have continued to improve each time I've seen him.

17 WR Charlie Cruse Downers Grove North- Bigger, stronger kid who has added more good weight and size from a year ago (6-foot-0, 209 pounds). Has a chance to draw FCS additional looks and possible offers this summer.

19 WR Stevan Garvic Libertyville- I really wanted to see Stevan in one on ones but once this event was moved inside well...that sort of squashed that idea. Has great size and length (6-foot-4, 180 pounds) and depending upon how well he runas in camps this summer could rise up the recruiting radar.

22 WR Quinn Morris Plainfield East- Easily the best I've seen Quinn Morris perform was at this camp. Morris was quick, showed impressive first few steps and has some really wiggle and explosion. Looks to have greatly improved his overall speed, has added more good size and strength this past off season. The more I see here the more I believe he has a chance to develop ointo a high level name.

37 LB Will Peterson Geneva- Good size (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) here and passes the eyeball test no question. Moved pretty well in the testing phase and while I saw Will play in 2023 I need to go back and watch more video on him. Has FCS level potential in my opinion.

41 WR Luke Olson Niles Notre Dame- Great looking prospect here (6-foot-3, 206 pounds) who missed his 2023 season due to an injury. Looked fully healthy at this camp and was simply impressive and showed a great mix of speed, quickness and is already physically college ready. Look for more schools to get serious on Luke Olson this summer.

51 DE Charlie Stec Brother Rice- Measured in at 6-foot-2, 226 pounds and Charlie is always a high motor kid who just plays well and is a consistently strong performer. Really wanted to see him in one on ones but the rain/lightning delay had other plans.

53 LB William Tobin Lyons Township- Bigger than I remembered (6-foot-2, 212 pounds) and is another name I really wanted to watch in positional work and one on ones. No question William looks the part this summer.

57 OL Brayden Mazanowski NormL Community- Added a few offers after this camp and his overall eyeball passing size (6-foot-3, 262 pounds) and his overall mobility and strength in the testing phase caught the attention of several FCS schools in particula.r

60 DE Xavier Blanquel Batavia I haven't heard a ton about Batavia this summer and that should scare everyone because when the Bulldog Nation is quiet....it means they are working very hard to get ready and hungry for the season. Blanquelm is an impressive kid on the hoof who college coaches will want to see in pads this summer.

64 DE JP Danaher St Rita Great looking player here on the hoof (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) who has exceptional quickness, bend and explosiveness for such a big, strong and physical kid. JP was really impressive in agility work, has plenty of strength and this is a name who can take off big time this summer.

62 WR Emmett Romeus Fenwick- Another very solid overall player and athlete here. Plays hard, goes all out in every rep and "wants it" as much as any kid in this class

68 WR Brennan Saxe Fremd Brennan Saxe (6-foot-3, 176 pounds) is a tall and lanky kid here who has good overall speed and athleticism who will again be a top target for the Vikings inn 2024.

74 DE Jalen White Homewood Flossmoor- Sort of a tweener positionally who has a large wingspan and the frame and is capable of adding more good weight and strength. Lots to like here and this is another name I really wanted to see in non rain delayed one on ones.

85 WR Cooper Lehman Mount Carmel- Always comes ready to play and has a lot to offer including impressive speed and hands. Lehman also has impressed me at earlier camps as someone who just catches everything thrown in his area code.

92 LB Jack Burzynski Barrington- Maybe one of the biggest sleeper names in this class and in some ways relates a bit to former Barrington DE Lucas Van Ness. Like Van Ness, Burzynski is a kid with great size (6-foot-4, 210 pounds) and length who will continue to develop over the next few seasons. Burzynski will get bigger, stronger and better and again has high D1 potential and ability in my opinion.

92 DL Tyler Fortis Maine South One of the hardest working kids in this class in Illinois. Fortis has done everything coaches have wanted to see from him this summer. Fortis has added strength, cut weight and has also developed and matured both on and off the field. Fortis is an explosive pass rusher and also a strong run stuffer who also wants to play at the highest level possible. Fortis has always been a tweener positionally but I see him as a valuable kid you can play anywhere on the defensive line.

93 DE Parker Ray Prospect- Big frame kid (6-foot-3, 195 pounds) who also showed impressive quickness and strength. Has some room to grow and add more size at the college level and this is a name to watch.

99 DE Taylor Aariz Kenwood Academy- Measured in at 6-foot-2, 228 pounds and I definitely wanted to see Taylor in one on ones. Good sized kid who will continue to draw D1 level attention and offers.

Impact Player for Huntley

Huntley welcomes back a nice core of returning starters for the 2024 season. Huntley senior QB Brandon Bower is a multi-year starter for Huntley who looks to be primed for a big 2024 season after showing well in 2023.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Huntley? Huntley has some strong underclassmen to watch in 2024 and keep an eye on junior OL/DL Ryan Wabel along with junior WR/DE Travis Dudycha who will have a chance to become major impact players for the Red Raiders in 2024.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Huntley Red Raiders

Huntley and head coach Mike Nayola is entering his third season in charge of the Red Raiders football program in 2024. Huntley is looking to get back into the IHSA state playoffs and this program has mised the playoffs just twice (2013/2020) since 2013. Huntley posted an 8-1 record in 2023 and it's only regular season loss came to Prairie Ridge.

The biggest question for Huntley heading into 2024?

Can the Red Raiders continue to crack the top of the FVC in 2024, capture the outright FVC conference title and make a deeper post-season run this fall? Huntley has some experience and talent back on both sides of the football and should be in line once again to be a real threat in the always rough FVC this fall. Never count this program out of anything in the Fox Valley.

Loyola 3 star S Donovan Robinson reopens his recruiting process

Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy senior three star ranked safety recruit Donovan Robinson (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) early on received an offer and gave the University of Virginia his verbal commitment back in mid April. Robinson has since decommitted and has reopened his recruiting process. D Rob talks about his decision to decommit, which schools could receive an upcoming official visit and more here in this EDGY Nation exclusive story.

"It just seemed like once I committed to Virginia I ended up adding a lot of new scholarship offers from some great programs. I just felt like I owed it to myself to look into more schools and get a better handle on my recruiting process. It was a hard decision to back out of my commitment to Virginia but I also felt like I needed to explore these schools and give them a fair chance."

Robinson has added several Power 4 offers and is eyeing setting up some upcoming summer official visits.

"I don't have anything set up just yet but I'm in the process of taking some official visits. I'm looking hard at getting out to make official visits to Missouri, Iowa State, Washington and also Minnesota. All of the coaches from those schools have been in contact with me quite a bit and recruiting me for some time now. Once I get my dates lined up I'll let everyone know."

So what is Robinson looking for in a potential school to call home?

"I want to get out and see the whole campus and get to know the towns and the areas around each school. I want to learn what a regular day feels like at each school. I also want to get to know the coaches and the players better at each school and see just how I fit in at each school as well."

Does Robinson have a time frame for making a college choice?

"I still want to make my decision before the start of my senior season. We already started our team camp and before you know it the season will be here."

Donovan Robinson has multiple scholarship offers.

My Take on Donovan Robinson: I really wasn't surprised that D Rob ended up decommiting from Virginia especially when just a day or two after his decision some big time Power 4 schools reached out and offered him. Look for Robinson to get out very soon to make some official visits and at least for right now.....he seems pretty open for now and I can't really say who would be a favorite here.

Stay Tuned.

Tinley Park senior OL/DE Jonathon Collier (6-foot-3, 245 pounds) is an impressive looking prospect who has a chance to make a strong impression in camps this summer. Collier has impressive size/strength and length and will be able to add even more good size and weight over the next year plus. Collier has been drqwing various FBS/FCS interest and I can see him adding offers from that level sooner rather than later.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Tinley Park? Tinley Park senior DT Kendall Webb has impressive size and physical tools and should draw more recruiting looks this summer and fall.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Tinley Park Titans

Tinley Park and head coach Chris Vitt was able to make quite a bit of progress in his second year as the Titans head coach in 2023. Tinley Park went from 0-9 in 2022 to a 5-5 record and made the Class 5A state playoff field. The Titans will welcome back 13 returning starters (6 offense 7 defense) and the talent level for the Titans continues to rise.

The biggest question for Tinley Park heading into 2024?

Can the Titans get out of the gates quickly this season and get to 5 plus wins again this fall? The non conference portion of the schedule I feel is winnable and a strong start should greatly benefit the Titans chances to get to the magical 5 wins this season.

Quincy Notre Dame senior S Wyatt Mueller (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) is a talented and athletic name to watch this summer and fall for the Raiders. Mueller has been drawing steady FBS/FCS and D2 recruiting looks and attention and has the ability to play a few different positions at the college level.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Quincy Notre Dame? Both QND senior RB Ivan Hun along with senior LB Taylin Scott are both eyeball passing names with talent who will increase their recruiting looks this spring and summer.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Quincy Notre Dame Raiders

Quincy Notre Dame and head coach Jack Cornell made the IHSA 2A state playoffs in 2023 with a 4-5 regular season record. The Raiders defeated ALAH in Round 1 action then loast to Nashville in second round action to end the season with a 5-6 overall record. The Raiders program has now made the IHSA state football playoffs in three straight seasons under Jack Cornell.

The biggest question for Quincy Notre Dame heading into 2024?

Can the Raiders adjust to playing in the always rugged Central State 8 conference this fall and get back into the post-season? The Raiders have finally found a conference home after playing as an independent for several seasons in the Springfield area based Central State 8 conference. Quincy Notre Dame will no question get tested right out of the gates this fall kicking off against in town rival Quincy then taking on power Richmond Burton before hitting the CS8 slate.

Impact Player for the Clinton Maroons

The Maroons have a handful of very solid skill position players in senior WR Anthony Westbrooks along with senior WR Colton Walker. Westbrooks, who focused on basketball last season has now returned to football for his senior season has a ton of speed and promise.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Clinton Maroons

Clinton and head coach Ron Bass has continued to move the football program forward in his three seasons leading the Maroons. Clinton has posted records of 1-7, 4-5 and then last season 6-4 and a Class 3A state playoff appearance.

The biggest question for the Clinton in 2024?

Who wins the quarterback battle this summer between junior Josh Bass and junior Keaton Graves, and can the Maroons build more overall numbers and depth especially upfront on the offensive and defensive lines? Clinton welcomes back a very nice core of returning starters this summer and the move to the Heart of Illinois conference for 2024 also brings some new names and challenges on the schedule. I can see this team challenging again for a state playoff spot in 2024.

Preseason Ranking? None for now.

Joint Practices w/ Rochelle,Oswego East,Dunlap
7 on 7 @ Sterling High School w/ numerous teams

Impact Player for Sterling

Sterling and head coach Jonathan Schlemmer always seems to have talent in house year in and year out, no real surprise from a town loaded with history and tradition. Sterling senior WR/DB Kaedon Phillips is a speedy, twitchy athlete who will draw increased recruiting looks and attention this summer and fall.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Sterling? Sterling senior RB/NG Gage Tate is a hard nosed two way starter for the Golden Warriors who will be a key leader again on both sides of the football in 2024.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Sterling Golden Warriors

Sterling and head coach Jonathan Schlemmer posted a 5-6 record in 2023 and made the Class 5A state playoff field, beat Payton Prep then lost to St Francis in second round action. The Golden Warriors are one of the top overall programs state wide in Class 5A and Jonathan Schlemmer has posted an impressive 96-33 overall record in 12 seasons at Sterling. The Golden Warriors have also missed the IHSA state playoff field just once (2013) since the 2001 season.

The biggest question for Sterling heading into 2024?

Can the Golden Warriors reload at a few key positions (DL/DB) and make a deeper run in the post-season? The Warriors have been a top team in the Western Big 6 since joining the conference, but the conference race is never a cake walk. Quincy will again be the team to watch along with Moline but the Golden Warriors will also be in the hunt all season long and once they get into the post-season they more often than not will matchiup pretty well in 5A at least early on.

Preseason Ranking? Class 5A Top 10 serious consideration.

Lemont senior OL Jake Sulzberger (6-foot-5, 275 pounds) is the next in a very good and long line of higher college level offensive linemen coming out of Lemont. Sulzberger is currently holding multiple FB S and FCS scholarship offers this late spring and I feel Sulzberger has higher level D1 talent and potential.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Lemont? Keep an eye on Lemont senior OLB Connor Wilms (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) along with senior OL Chase Indestad (6-foot-3, 245 pounds) and both have been drawing increased recruiting attention this spring.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Lemont High School

Lemont and head coach Willie Hayes posted a 5-5 overall record in 2023 as Lemont has now made the IHSA state playoff field for 9 straight seasons. However, this Lemont program sets the bar considerably higher and no one involved with this program was happy with the 2023 results. Lemont second year head coach Willie Hayes is looking for the program to take several more steps forward this fall and welcomes back a very experienced team featuring 14 returning starters (9 offense 5 defense).

The biggest question for Lemont heading into 2024?

Can Lemont get back to it's winning ways and make a deep post-season run in 2024? Lemont's early season non conference schedule is no joke with Eisenhower, @ Libertyville and @ Geneva to start the season and getting out of the gates well will be a big early indicator. Look for Lemont to have a real chance at making a strong run in Class 6A again this coming season.
