Oak Lawn Richards senior RB Myles "Money" Mitchell is already committed to FCS power North Dakota State this summer and Mitchell is looking to have an even bigger season in 2024. Mitchell has an impressive collection of speed, power and quickness and also possesses great size and power.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Richards? Keep an eye on junior RB La'Darius Foster who was a solid runner and blocker is supporting the Bulldogs offense as a sophomore in 2023. Foster also had impressive tools and great instincts and is in line to get more touches and chances this fall.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Oak Lawn Richards Bulldogs

Oak Lawn Richards and longtime head coach Tony Sheehan has led the Bulldogs football program over the past 15 seasons and has posted a 123-44 record. Richards has missed the IHSA state playoffs just once (2008) in Sheehan's 15 seasons leading the football program. Richards in 2023 won the South Suburban Reed conference titlew, made the Class 6A state playoff field and beat Hubbard before losing to Glenwood in second round action.

The biggest question facing Richards this summer?

Can the Bulldogs reload at a handful of key positions and continue to win? Richards always has talent in the building and Sheehan and his staff does an amazing job of getting the most out of it's talent year in and year out. If the Bulldogs can find answers this summer at a handful of key positions (QB/WR/LB/DL) look for the Bulldogs to again be a force in the South Suburban Red and Class 6A.

Metamora junior RB/DB Jaiduan Cranford is a speedy and athletic two way starter and playmaker for the Redbirds this coming season. Cranford on film shows to have nice start/stop ability, gets to full speed quickly and also has some wiggle and goof overall vision.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Metamora? Keep an eye on either senior LB Cam Nickel and/or senior WR/DB Avery Grebner both of who are three year varsity starters for the Redbirds this fall.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Metamora Redbirds

Metamora and head coach Jared Grebner are coming off a 8-3 season in 2023 as the Redbirds made the 5A state playoff field, defeated Decatur McArthur thgn los Highland in second round action. Head coach Jar3ed Grebner has posted a 23-13 record in four seasons at Metamora.

The biggest question facing Metamora this summer?

Can the Redbirds offensive and defensive lines gain experience quickly and make another post-season run this fall? Metamora welcomes back a nice core of experienced skills, but the line play welcomes back just one returning starter senior Landon Cowper. The Mid Illini is always a rough conference race and the if Metamora can bring along it's less experienced line play sooner rather than later....they will be again in the hunt in the conference and in 5A.

News and Notes: Thoughts from the Naperville North 7on7 June 18th

Again Naperville North will be hosting several Tuesday night 7on7 in June and early July and I plan on attending as many as I can....and this session featured some big time players and strong Chicagoland programs.

Teams Who Took Part?

Naperville North (2 teams)
- I told NN QB Jacob Bell "I saw you last week...this week you guys are dead to me" which brought an immediate laugh. I didn't watch a ton of NN here and I have a good feel for them so far. The offense led by Jacob Bell (Ball State) will be a strength and his overall game, arm, accuracy and presence/confidence has never been higher or better. Bell was a bit inconsistent at times in 2023 and in my eyes looks to be ready for a big time season in 2024. Also Bell to me has the feel of a QB who could draw more attention from higher level schools this fall if he gets off to a big early start. The receivers are also a strength for the Huskies and the offense will score points in 2024. The defense had good moments last week but also looks to be a work in progress a bit for now.

DGS- Another team I've seen a few different times this spring and summer. More on the Mustangs soon who I will cover at the Mustangs big 7on7 in Mid Juy

Hinsdale Central Another team I know I will see multiple times this summer so I didn't watch a ton here to be honest. The Red Devils are always have talent in the skills including a few solid QBs and several capable WR's

LW East- Wow. Let mw repeat that for those in the back. Wow. The Griffins in many ways look the same especially on defense. The Griffins have a strong group of linebackers with none taller than say 5-foot-11...which I think is a requirement to play LB at LWE at this stage. The remaining defenders has good speed coverage skills and remain just fundamentally sound. The Griffins offense should just explode this season led by junior 4 star ranked QB Jonas Williams. Williams is a bigger, stronger and better from a season ago...and he will greatly benefit from a deep and sound group of receivers. Williams in my opinion has a great chance of becoming the next State of Illinois QB to make the Elite 11 in 2025. Williams has touch, feel, makes great reads and has the arm talent to just blow opposing defenses away time and time again. Also senior RB Zion Gist (WMU) looks bigger, thicker and stronger this summer and hasn't lost a step. Be afraid Class 8A.....be very afraid.

LW West- The Warriors have some real talent this fall and overall was impressive here at times. It was great to see senior WR Austin Rowswell back doing football activities after a year of battling various injuries. Also keep an eye on senior WR Deandre Coates who also looks the part/on the hoof while senior ILB Josh Veldman (Northwestern) made some impressive plays and he will get bigger and stronger from here on out. Not sure what the line play will look like and the schedule will be a challenge...but the talent level again looks good here.

Lockport- The Porters are pretty much never real flashy at these events and will more than likely run the football 70 percent plus of the time in 2024. I liked what I saw here from an overall numbers standpoint and the Porters are always well coached. Longtime Porters OL coach Dave Pammer will call the offense this season and at least here showed a lot of short to medium passing game led by a few different quarterbacks who I thought did fine here. The Lockport defense is always a calling card for HC George Czart and the linebacker play will be big, strong and physical in 2024.

Glenbard West- Really impressed with the offense...and that's something I seldom mention when it comes to the Hitters and 7on7. The Hitters have a few different quarterback who look capable and they have a few major game breakers in WR/DB Mason Ellens (Iowa State) and ATH Teyion Oriental along with some really nice potential on both sides of the football. Throw in a big and physical OL and be careful kids because the Hitters look good this summer.

Neuqua Valley Solid....real solid. Didn't really see any weaknesses whatsoever. I watched the Wildcats against GBW and they more than held their own on both sides of the football. I get the feeling this is a bit of a younger team....but NV also never really rebuilds and always finds a way to reload. This team had those kind of vibes to me here....maybe a bit younger/less experienced but also talented with potential.

DG North A decent amount of core pieces from last years deep post-season run team remains in place. which is a good thing. DGN junior 3 star QB Owen Lansu is another big time signal caller drawing Power 4 attention and offers, and all Owen does is show up and show out. Lansu was really impressive throwing directly into a strong wind here and was pretty much unfazed by the conditions. DGN senior WR Charlie Cruse has caught everything this spring and summer and senior TE/LB Joe Edwards has D1 level ability. Again I'll need to see the line play this summer to get a better handle but North looks very capable again this fall.

Lincoln Way West has some impressive names back for the 2024 season, but none will have the overall impact this fall as senior LB Josh Veldman who's already committed to Northwestern. Veldman has impressive length. speed and instincts and also has the frame and makeup of a player who will physically continue to develop at the Big Ten level.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Lincoln Way West? Take your pick between senior WR Austin Rowswell and/or senior WR DeAndre Coates. Rowswell has struggled with a few injuries in his high school career but when healthy this track sprinter has Big ten ability and speed. Coates is also a physically impressive kid on the hoof who also has big level physical tools and potential. I can see both Rowswell and Coates playing at the D1 level next fall.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Lincoln Way West Warriors

Lincoln Way West and head coach Luke Lokanc is looking to improve upon it's 9-3 season in 2023 as the Warriors lost to Downers grove North in the Class 7A quarterfinals. Lincoln Way West head coach Luke Lokanc has posted a 22-15 record in 4 seasons leading the Warriors program and West has missed the IHSA state playoff field just once (2022) since the 2009 season.

The biggest question facing Lincoln Way West this summer?

Can the Warriors survive a ramped up regular season schedule with the addition of several DuPage Valley conference schools on board in 2024 and make another deep post-season run in 7A? The merging for one season (for now) between the Southwest Suburban schools and the DVC no question will ramp up scheduling for all schools and West will take on the likes of Naperville North, Naperville Central and Metea Valley in 2024. The talent level looks strong in 2024 for the Warriors and this remains a program that continues to climb on several levels and should find it's way back into the post-season in 2024.

Impact Player for Romeoville

Romeoville senior OL/DL Tony Galloway 6-foot-3, 255 pounds has been a varsity starter and key performer since his sophomore season for the Spartans and head coach Justin Trovato. Galloway has drawn various FCS/D2 level recruiting attention and scholarship offers. Galloway has a jnice combination of size and strength and a frame that will allow him to add even more good weight and strength at the college level.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Romeoville? Keep an eye on senior DE/RB Marc Thomas (6-foot-3, 230 pounds) has college level size. skills and physical tools to play on Saturday's at the college level next fall.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Romeoville Spartans

Romeovlle and head coach Justin Trovato struggled to a 1-8 season in 2023 as the Spartans decided to "go young" in 2023 and played a ton of underclassmen who gained valuable varsity seat time which will hopefully pay off this coming season. The Spartans are seeking a return visit to the IHSA state playoffs in 2024 which would be the programs first visit to the post-season since the 2013 season (5-5 record). Trovato has posted a 6-34 overall record in 5 seasons.

The biggest question facing Romeovlle this summer?

Can the Spartans finally turn things around for the better starting this season? Romeoville has been a program on decline for several seasons as the program has had to deal with declining overall numbers along with instability within the staff over the past decade or so. Romeoville head coach Justin Trovato has done a strong job of keeping this program in place and the program has seen a boost in lower level numbers the past few seasons. Fingers crossed this 2024 season becomes the first year of a several year turn around from a program that has had a ton of history and tradition in the Southwest suburbs for decades.

Preseason Ranking? Not yet.

Q of the Week: Why aren't we talking about NIL?

Just saw one underclassmen quarterback announce via his Twitter account that he has representation for any NIL opportunities....and I'm expecting more to follow.

So why aren't we talking about this yet? Seems like it's been a very slow crawl so far at the high school level Again this thread will not be turned into a player bitch session.....but this opportunity is available now....and will we see it take off?

Linked is a nice compliation of the IHSA NIL rules from (Burlington) Central High School

Richmond Burton senior OL/DL Logan Garcia (5-foot-11, 245 pounds) is a two way starter and experienced varsity starter this coming season for the Rockets. Gaercia has good hands and feet, shows quickness on either side of the football and will play on Saturday's next fall.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Richmond Burton? Keep an eye on junior RB/DB Luke Johnson (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) who was a varsity starter on both sides of the football in 2023 for the Rockets.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Richmond Burton Rockets

Richmond Burton and Hall of Fame head coach Mike Noll posted a 7-3 record in 2023. The Rockets made the 2023 Class 4A state playoff field and lost to St. Viator 14-0 in opening round action. Noll. who has posted an impressive 61-7 record in 6 seasons at Richmond Burton also had lengthy stays at both McHenry (16 seasons) and also Glenbrook South (12 seasons).

The biggest question facing Richmond Burton this summer?

Can the Rockets reload at some key spots this summer (QB/RB/DL/DB) and continue to make big noise in the Kishwaukee River and in Class 4A again? The 2024 schedule is interesting especially the non conference games (vs Marian Central Catholic and @ Quincy ND) that will be solid tests. In the end this program continues to be a consistent winner and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Impact Player for the Carlyle Indians

The Indians senior RB/LB Brody Diekemper (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) is a two way multi-year starter for the Indians. Diekemper is a hard nosed runner in the Indians powe r option running game along with a sure tackler and impact defender.

Looking for a sleeper name to watch for the Indians this season? Carlyle junior DT Spencer Bruggemann (6-foot-4, 275 pounds) has the size to draw more serious recruiting looks and attention this coming season.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Carlyle Indians

Carlyle and third year head coach Nick Wolf is looking to break the Indians back to back 4-5 seasons in 2024. Carlyle just came up short in a huge Week 9 31-22 loss to Red Bud which kept the Indians home in the post-season and sent the Salukis into the Class 1A state playoff field.

The biggest question for the Indians in 2024?

Can Carlyle break away from the 4-5 record in 2024 and make the IHSA state playoff field? Carlyle, like every other small enrollment program will need to continue to develop overall numbers and depth this summer, but the core of starters back is solid and could be another key to a winning season this fall.

Preseason Ranking? None for now.

Impact Player for Genoa Kingston

Genoa Kingston senior QB/DB Nathan Kleba (6-foot-0, 165 pounds) is a terrific all around, multi-sport athlete who has the potential to draw increased recruiting attention this summer and fall.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Genoa Kingston? Keep an eye on senior RB/DE Tyler Atterberry (6-foot-1, 160 pounds) who is also a multi-positional and multi-sport athlete who basically won't leave the field again in 2024 for the Cogs.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Genoa Kingston Cogs

Genoa Kingston and head coach Cameron Davekos just missed making the 2023 IHSA state playoff field, posting a 4-5 record and coming up short in landing an at large state playoff bid. Genoa Kingston has remained a consistent winner in Class 4A/3A level and has made the post-season in 7 out of the last 9 seasons. Cameron Davekos is entering his fourth season at Genoa Kingston and has posted an overall record of 21-10.
The biggest question for Genoa Kingston heading into 2024?

Can the Cogs build up enough depth and overall numbers to go head to head against the top tier of the Big Northern conference in 2024? .Genoa Kingston welcomes back a nice core of starters in 2024, but all eyes will again be on Big Northern power Byron. The Cogs 5 losses in 2023 all came to playoff teams and if this program can compete and beat a few of the upper tier teams they have a very good shot at a post-season bid this coming fall.

Impact Player for Plainfield North Tigers

Plainfield North welcomes back a ton of experienced starters this fall after playing several underclassmen in 2023. North also always has a ton of speed on both sides of the football and look for several names to draw increased recruiting interest and attention this summer and fall. Keep an eye out for Plainfield North senior LB Andrew Alkarah who is holding an early offer from Kent State along with senior DB Treycen Bownes and sophomore WR Darin Ashiru.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Plainfield North? Keep an eye on two incoming transfers in QB Justice Byrd (Ottawa) along with RB Malik Jassim (Plainfield Central) as two names who could crack Plainfield North's starting lineup this season.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Plainfield North Tigers

Plainfield North and head coach Anthony Imbordino posted a 4-6 overall record in 2023, however the Tigers made the IHSA Class 8A state playoffs in 2023 losing to eventual state champion Loyola Academy in opening round action. Imbordino, who is entering his 6th season at North has posted a 32-16 record including making the IHSA state playoffs for four straight seasons.

The biggest question for Plainfield North heading into 2024?

Can the Tigers find at least 5 wins this fall and make a deeper run in Class 8A? The schedule for the Tigers is no joke this season, opening on the road at Lockport then hosting West Suburban power York. The conference schedule also gets a bump this season with the subtraction of West Aurora and the addition of Bolingbrook. Look for Plainfield North to take on all comers and this could be a very nice sleeper pick in both the SW Prairie West conference race along with a sleeper team to watch in 8A as well in 2024.

Impact Player for the Hoopston Area/Armstrong Potomac Cornjerkers

The Cornjerkers welcome back a handful of key starters this summer with varsity experience. Keep an eye on HAAP senior RB/DB Ayden Larkin who will be asked to again provide both leadership and production in all three phases of the game this coming season.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Hoopston Area/Armstrong Potomac Cornjerkers

Hoopston Area/Armstrong Potomac and second year head coach Carrick MacDonald is looking to improve upon the Cornjerkers 2-7 season in 2023. HAAP is one of the state's oldest football playing schools going back to the 1897 season. Needless to say, HAAP has retained one of the most unique nicknames in the State of Illinois with Cornjerkers.

The biggest question for the Cornjerkers in 2024?

Can the Cornjerkers reload and replace 15 graduated starters from the 2023 season and continue to win games this fall? The program is excited about it's up and coming underclassmen classes and hopefully some key names from that group emerge this summer and help this program build up the program even higher this fall.

Preseason Ranking? None for now.

Impact Player for Hillcrest

Hillcrest already has a handful of Division 1 recruits and impact players to watch this summer, and more will also follow sooner rather than later. Hillcrest senior RB/DB Erimus Wright is a Power 4 recruit who has impressive tools and high level ability. Hillcrest junior DE McHale Blade (6-foot-4, 240 pounds) is also drawing national recruiting attention and scholarship offers.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Hillcrest? Keep an eye on Hillcrest junior standout two sport athlete (football/basketball) Max Carmicle (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) who is a Division 1 basketball player who also has the tools and ability to also become a D1 level tight end as well.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Hillcrest Hawks

Hillcrest and head coach Kyran Weaver has been one of the better football programs over the past 6-7 seasons in the Chicagoland South Suburbs. The Hawks have made the IHSA state playoff field for the past 7 seasons and former Hawks defensive linemen and now head coach Kyran Weaver has posted a 17-14 record in three seasons.

The biggest question for Hawks heading into 2024?

Can the Hawks get out of the gates strong this fall and reload at a few key spots (WR/DB this summer? Hillcrest looks to have a pretty stacked starting lineup but the schedule is also strong opening the season against both Benet Academy and at Montini Catholic. If the Hawks can get a few early wins this season they have a chance to develop into one of the better Class 5A schools in Chicagoland this fall.

Impact Player for Rochelle

Rochelle senior RB/FS Grant Gensler has been a varsity starter and mainstay since his sophomore season for the Hubs. Gensler is a nice combination of a speedy an d athletic play maker with good vision and strength running the football while also being a sure tackler on the defensive side of the football.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Rochelle? Keep an eye on senior OL/DL Kaiden Morris (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) who is also an impact performer on both sides of the football this fall for the Hubs.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Rochelle Hubs

Rochelle and head coach Kyle Kissack enters his 7th season as the Hubs program has made the IHSA state playoff field in every season except in 2019 (4-5 record) and in 2020 (Covid). The Hubs welcome back 20 returning starters (10 offense 10 defense) and several of those returning starter will be long time varsity contributors.

The biggest question for Rochelle heading into 2024?

Can the Hubs guide through a very strong regular season schedule and get back into the IHSA state playoffs again this fall? The schedule this fall is pretty stacked with the likes of Highland, LaSalle-Peru plus Sycamore, Morris and Kaneland all awaiting the Hubs this fall.

Impact Player for Bishop McNamara

Bishop McNamara senior OL Max Rohr (6-foot-3, 275 pounds) is no question a name to watch this coming fall for the Fighting Irish. Rohr, who has added g
ood weight and strength this past off season will continue to draw more recruiting looks this summer and fall.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Bishop McNamara? Keep an eye on senior WR/DB Jackson Kirchner (5-foot-9, 160 pounds) who missed his entire4 2023 season due to an injury. Kirchner has speed and has a chance to become an impact performer for the Fighting Irish this fall.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Bishop McNamara Fighting Irish

Bishop McNamara and head coach Bob Kelly posted a 4-5 record in his first season leading the Fighting Irish football program. Kelly will look to get one of the state's top small school Catholic school football program's back on top hopefully starting for the 2024 season.

The biggest question for Bishop McNamara heading into 2024?

Can the Fighting Irish get back to it's winning ways and back into the IHSA state playoffs starting this fall? Bishop McNamara will welcome back an impressive 19 returning starters (10 offense 9 defense) and that group saw a ton of varsity starting experience last season. If the Fighting Irish can also add some overall numbers and depth all the better for the Bishop McNamara's chances this fall.
