Let's Talk 6A: Teams Under Consideration for the Preseason Top 10

Teams Under Consideration for the Preseason Class 6A Top 10?

Antioch- The Och (Ok I know it's Sequoits) will look to reload a bit this summer after graduating a strong senior class that posted a 10-1 season and made it to the seconds round of the 5A state playoffs. The Sequoits still have some experience back in 11 returning starters (6 offense 5 defense) including RB Martin Cohen FB Wyatt Ertl and three starting OL back....the Antioch poer run game should be a strength.

Blue Island Eisenhower - The Cardinals will need to replace departed head coach Sheamus Murphy (Sandburg administration) but does welcome back 13 returning starters (7 offense 6 defense) led by senior standout WR/S Andre Lovett (Illinois) while sophomore OL/DL Sincere Harris is already drawing college offers.

Cary Grove - The defending 6A state champions hand head coach Brad Seaburg welcome back 9 returning starters (6 offnese 3 defense) and none as valuable as junior FB/LB Logan Abrams who was a powerhouse runner in the Trojans option running attack. The Trojans defense will be green with just 3 starters back but this prpogram reloads as well as anyone in 6A year in and year out.

Glenwood - The Titans and head coach David Hay went young last season and started several underclassmen all back this fall. The offensive sills in particular wilkl be a strength led by QB Colten Knoedler and several quality backs and receivers. The Titans looked good at West Aurora last week and I'll see them liove again in mid July.

Simeon- The Wolverines are looking to get the Sinque Turner era underway this fall. Simeon will lean on it's talent inclusding 4 star ranked senior DE Christopher Burgess Jr. plus senior QB Kaleb Sims while the rsoter will more likely than not have some additional names to watch incoming this summer.

Crete-Monee - The Warrioers and head coach John Konecki played a ton of underclassmen in 2023 and this has the makings up developing into a nice team to watch this fall. Crete Monee will bring back 15 returning starters (9 offense 6 defense) and junior WR/DB Jayden Marshall is already drawing offers and is one of severa big play caliber names to watch in 2024.,

Deerfield The Warriors and head coach Steve Winiecki ended up 4-5 in 2023 and just missed making the state playoff field. Deerfield also was done no favors getting moved from the Central Sub South from the North in 2023, yet the Warriors no question competed. Deerfield welcomes back 15 returning starters in 2024 (9 offense 6 defense) and if they can get to 5 wins in the South they can make some early noise in 6A.

Dunlap- Tne Eagles and head coach Brett Cazalet welcomes back 11 returning starters (7 offense 4 defense) and several key impact performers are also a part of that group. Dunlap junior 4 star ranked TE/DE Mack Sutter has offers from basically every school in the nation this summer and the Eagles will lean on up and coming junior QB John Bargen.

East St Louis - The Flyers just truly reload year in and year out and will again be a force in 6A and also state wide in 2024. The Flyers will lean on sophomore QB Kendrick Lyons who will be asked to fill in the monsterous shoes of graduated QB Pops Battle. The offensive line is a strength in 2024 and the overall skill position depth is just highly impressive.

Geneva - The Vikings and head coach Boone Thorgesen welcomes back 13 returning starters including 9 starters on offense. Geneva senior 4 star ranked WR Talyn Taylor (Georgia) is truly an impact player and if the Vikings can reload in a few key spots (QB/DL/LB) they can challenge in the Dukane conference and beyond in 2024.

Kankakee - The Kays a.so bring back a ton of experience this fall (18 returning starters back 9 offense 9 defense) and head coach Miles Osei has already begun to make an impact on the Kays football program after just one season. Keep an eye on Kankakee senior OLB Kennyan Chandler (EIU) along with senior ATH James Stampley Jr. this fall.

Lake Forest- The Scouts always are a threat in 6A especially since they play "up" in the Class 7A sized North Suburban conference.

Lake Zurich- Da Bears welcome back 13 returning starters inckuding 4 starters back on a strong offensive line led by senior OL Jacob Wilk while the defense is led by senior DL Nate Snep plus 4 returning starters back at linebacker for LZ.

Libertyville - The Naughty Kitties (Ok I know it's Wildcats) welcome back some key names for the 2024 season including senior OL Myles Batesky and junior WR/S Blaise LaVista is the best player you might not heard of just yet....but will this fall.

Kaneland - The Knights will need to reload a bit this summer especially in the skills department...but the program always seems to find a way and keep an eye on junior OL/DL Jake Buckley this fall.

Providence Catholic- The Celtics played a very young lineup in 2023 and that should begin to pay off this fall. Head coach Tyler Plantz will rely on junior QB Leo Slepski who's looked good this summer and the Celtoics are stacked with a ton of impressive underclassmen skills including sophomore ATH Jaylin McMillen while on defense senior S Gavin Hagan is an other key nmame this fall for Providence Catholic.

Niles Notre Dame- The Dons are always hanging around and always in the hunt and could play a spoiler role in the Class 6A field. Senior ATH Luke Olson (Illinois State) is an impressive name to watch this fall.

Oak Lawn Richards- The Bulldogs welcome back 12 returning starters (5 offense 7 defense) and features some big names including senior RB Myles Mitchell (NDSU) plus the Bulldogs entire starting DL is back this fall.

Washington- The Panthers begin the new era as longtime assistant coach Todd Stevens takes over as longtime head coach Darrell Crouch has retired. The Panthers welcome back 11 returning starters (7 offense 4 defense) and will again be a factor in the Mid Illini race this fall. Keep an eye on junior WR/S Adrian Jones who has D1 athletic tools and ability. Jones started his high school career at Washington, transferred to Bolingbrook and is now back home at Washington.

Impact Player for Richwoods

Richwoods senior OLB Sean Glover (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) is a lomg and lanky athlete who moves well in space, has some twitch and explosiveness and looks like a kid who has the frame to allow him to add much more good weight and size the college level.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Richwoods? Keep an eye on Richwoods senior WR Bryce Hopkins along with senior DE Gabe Martinez who are strong athletes who have a chance to boost their overall recruiting stock this summer and fall.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Peoria Richwoods Knights

Richwoods and head coach Jim Ulrich posted 3-6 overall record in 2023 but after the season was awared a 4th win over Peoria when the Lions were found by the IHSA to have used an ineligible player in several games in 2023. The Knights last made the IHSA state playoff field in 2017 and has posted a 7-21 reocrd in three seasons for head coach Jim Ulrich.

The biggest question facing Richwoods this summer?

Can the Knights find a way to get back towards the top of the Big Twelve conference and back into the IHSA state playoff field in 2024. Richwoods will lean on an experienced offense back in the fold with 6 returning starters including 3 starters back on the Knights offensive line. Look for Richwoods to add some depth and they will also need to replace some key positions (QB/DB) as well this summer.

Preseason Ranking? Not yet.

Impact Player for Belleville East

Belleville East junior OL/DL Jonathan Rulo (6-foot-2, 290 pounds) is a big strong and very physical kid who also impressed me in person l;ast fall with his feet, balance and overall quickness. Rulo to me looks like a higher level D1 name to watch who looks like a hard nosed interior defensive linemen.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Belleville East? Keep an eye on Belleville East senior WR/DB Keithen Jones along with senior RB/LB Noah Peters as both players are highly productive names who will be asked to step up again this fall for the Lancers.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Belleville East Lancers

Belleville East and head coach Michael Harrison is coming off a 8-3 season in 2023 as the Lancers made the Class 8A state playoff field, defeated East Aurora then lost to Maine South in the 8A second round action. Harrison is now entering his 6th season leading the East football program and has posted a 21-24 overall record including posting back to back state playoff appearances. The Lancers program is making big strides over the past two seasons and sure looked like a program to me in person last fall headed in the right direction.

The biggest question facing Belleville East this summer?

Can the Lancers reload especially in the offensive skills department and continue it's winning ways? Belleville East has a pretty impressive senior heavy group of leaders in 2023 including several offensive skills/offensive line standouts who have since graduated. If the Lancers can bring along and develop some of those younger names this summer this team should again be in contention for a state playoff spot in 20424.

Impact Player for Jacobs

Jacobs and head coach Brian Zimmerman has been able to develop some nice players sent to the high college level. Jacobs senior TE/DE PJ Prince Barnes is an eyeball passing athlete who has the physical tools to play at a high college level. Barnes has been drawing various FBS/FCS interest and he has a chance to raide his recruiting stock this fall.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Jacobs? Keep an eye on Jacobs junior QB Connor Goehrling (6-foot-4, 200 pounds) who is a big, strong signal caller who's starting to draw mire recruiting traction this summer.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Jacobs Golden Eagles

Jacobs and head coach Brian Zimmerman is seeking it's fourth straight IHSA state playoff berth this coming season. Zimmerman, who is a Lincoln Way alum has posted a 24-12 record in four seasons as the head coach at Jacobs

The biggest question facing Jacobs this summer?

Can the Golden Eagles win the Fox Valley Conference title and when will this program get past the quarterfinal round of the IHSA state playoffs? Jacobs over the past handful of years has improved greatly as a program and is becoming a consistent winner. The always rugged FVC is always a challenge year in and year out and 2024 will be no different but I can see this team taking on all comers in the FVC. Getting into the 7A quarterfinal round and winning that game no question remains a program goal and I can se this program making that happen sooner rather than later in my opinion.

2024 Team 7on7 or Team Summer Camp?

Washington 7 on 7 on Saturday 7/20

Impact Player for Bloomington Central Catholic

Bloomington Central Catholic welcomes back an impressive 16 returning starters for 2024 including 9 starters back on defense for the Saints. Keep an eye on senior LB Eli Roguski (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) along with senior DE Cooper Stolfa (6-foot-4, 200 pounds) Both Roguski and Stolfa have good size and length, look like higher level prospects on video and will continue to add more good weight and sixe at the next level.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for BCC? BCC sophomore QB Matthew Brady (6-foot-4, 205 pounds) is an advanced athlete and quarterback who has been highly impressive this summer at various camps. Brady showed a big time arm. has high level physical tools and I feel will develop into a potential Power 4 level quarterback recruit in the Class of 2027.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Bloomington Central Catholic Saints

Bloomington Central Catholic and head coach Kevin Braucht was able to lead the Saints into the Class 2A quarterfinals and a 11-1 record, it's best finish since the 2015 season. The Saints have now posted back to back state playoff season after missing the playoffs for a handful of seasons and could even more good things be coming in 2024?

The biggest question facing Bloomington Central Catholic this summer?

Can the Saints reload this summer at a handful of key positions (QB/OL/RB) and make a deep run in the state playoffs? The overall number of returning starters is impressive here and the roster for the Saints, along with the overall numbers within the program seem to also be on the rise. Look for expectations to be sky high for Saints fans this summer and fall and if a few things develop the way I think they could....BCC could no question make a very deep run this fall.

Teams Under Consideration for the Preseason Class 8A Top 10?

Barrington
- The Broncos always just seem to reload better than anyone in the Northwest burbs. QB Nick Peipert is a leader to watch along with DE/OLB Jack Burzynski.

Marist- Had a rare down season in 2023 (4-5 record) and with old/new HC Mike Fitzgerald back in the saddle for the Redhawks I don't see them being down for long

St Ignatius-The Wolfpack welcomes back senior QB Jack Wanzung is a big time play maker who runs the Pack's power option game quite well. This program has also made some impressive strides over the past handful of seasons.

York- York's new head coach and longtime DC Dom Gelsomino was a terrific hie to replace Mike Fitzgerald (Marist) for the 2024 sesson. The Dukes will have some lineup turnover due to graduation, but the buildup of this program over the last 3-4 seasons won't slow down this fall. York senior 3 star DL Joseph Reiff (Notre Dame) is a monster impact player who has the ability to disrupt opposing offenses down in and down out, and the skills have size and talent as well.

LW East- Incoming transfer junior to be 4 star ranked QB Jonas Williams is bigger, stronger and even more accurate this summer. The remaining skills are talented for East are strong led by senior TE Trey Zvonar, WR Talen White while RB Zion Gist is also bigger, stronger and better. The line play remains a strength on both sides of the football led by senior 4 star DE Caden ORourke.

Glenbard West- Impressed with the Hitters this summer in 7on7 play and I dont say that ever summer either. The Hilltoppers have a handful of solid QB's, some great skill kids led by senior WR/DB Mason Ellens (Iowa State) plus senior ATH Teyion Oriental and a strong line play with experience is also back led by Northwestern commit Michael OConner.

Warren- The Blue Devils had a pretty green starting lineup inn2023 and welcome back some key names this fall With 19 returning starters back (10 offense 9 defense) for the3 Blue Devils

Hinsdale Central- The Red Devils also played a lot of underclassmen and will 2024 be the payoff season? 2026 OL Gene Riordan is already holding multiple Power 4 offers this summer and is a leader.

Homewood Floosmoor- The Vikings and head coach Terrell Alexander welcome back 18 returning starters and look for several key names to step up this fall including Illinois commit DE Cameron Brroks along with senior DT Jarve Bey while senior QB RJ MacDonald showed some real flashes last fall.

Huntley -The Red Raiders will lean on it's defnese earluy in 2024 with 8 starters back while the offense is anchored by senior QB Braylon Bower and three returning starts up front on three offensive line.

Lyons Township-The Lions will also need to replace several key starters from a season ago, but keep aneye on senior WR/S Travis Stamm along with TE Will Tobin and RB Danny Carroll wuhile the OL is led by3 returning starters back and is led by senior Tyler Chambers (NIU).

Naperville Central- The Redhawks had several underclassmen emerge late last season and in the playoffs including WR Aiden Clark along with OL/DL Jake Stanish.

Neuqua Valley- The Wildcats looked good this summer so far.....again nothing real flashy just a hard working group with a a solid talent level.

Naperville North- The Huskies and head coach sean Drendel can lean on several top performers back again this fall. Senior QB Jacob Bell (Ball State) looks great this summer and is in line for a big season and will rely on a very good receiver corps. The Huskies also have a standout DT in 2026 Gabriel Hill who already has multiple Power 4 offers along with senior ATH Kaiser Williams.

Sandburg- Sandburg and head coach Troy McAllister welcome back some top slills in QB Anthony Sheldon, junior RB Luke Basiorka and WR Charlie Snoreck while Indian commit Matt Marek is another top name to watch.
Oswego- The defense looks strong this summer and the offense also showed well at times. Senior LB Carson Cooney (Iowa) will be an impact player again inn 2024.
Minooka- The Indians will need to reload at some key spots this summer including finsing an answer at the usual spot (QB) but this program's overall numbers and depth has never been better. Keep an eye on junior LB Brady Kozlowski who has a chnce to become a major impact player for the Indians defense.

Palatine- Lots of talent back this fall for the Pirates led by senior 4 star ranked DE Jaylen Williams (Michigan) along with junior OL Parker Brault (Marshall) and junior OL Tony Balanganayi.
Maine South- The Hawks have serious talent the offensive line with al 5 starters back (4 of which have D1 offers) and the skills welcome back a top notch RB/QB duo in Mike Dellumo and Constantine Coines.
Plainfield North- Lots of speed on both sides of the football and incoming transfer QB Justive Byrd has alive arm while the receivers and backs are stacked led by incoming transfer RB Malik Jassim, and sophomore WR Darin Ashiru is going to be special.
Loyola Academy_ The Machine just reloads.....and from the skills to the line play the Rambers go as deep and as talented as any team in Illinois.

Impact Player for Maine South

Maine South year in and year out always seems to have a least a handful of college level talent, and the 2024 squad night have as much D1 level talent than any other Hawks team in recent memory. Maine South OL Zak Stoilov, OL Petar Strbac plus OL Eddie Dzae and OL Lazar Babic all are holding D1 level offers this summer. Both senior RB Michael Dellumo and senior QB Constantine Coines had big 2023 seasons and more is expected this fall. Main South senior DL Tyler Fortis has added a handful of D1 scholarship offers this summer and is in line for a big 2024 season.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Maine South? Keep an eye on Maine South junior QB Jameson Purcell who is already holding multiple Power 4 level scholarship offers. Purcell has been a known name in recruiting circles since he was in grade school and has all the physical tools and upside to develop into a Power 4 impact player. Winning and earning varsity playing time will be Jameson Purcell's biggest challenge this summer and fall.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Maine South Hawks

Maine South and veteran head coach Dave Inserra is coming off a strong 10-2 season in 2023 as the Hawks made the Class 8A state playoff field, defeated Lockport and Belleville East then lost to Barrington 42-40 to end the season. Dave Inserra has developed the Hawks football program into one of the true power programs in Illinois over the last two plus decades. Inserra has posted a record of 231-49 in 23 seasons and has won 8A state titles in 2016, 2010., 2009 and 2008 ands a second place finish in 2021, 2005, 2004 and 2003.

The biggest question facing Maine South this summer?

Can the Hawks reload in a few key positions (WR/DL/DB) and challenge for another 8A state title in 2024? Maine South ha s astrong senior class and several impact players back this fall....and I fully expect this Hawks to again be one of the top programs in the North suburbs and to again be a major threat to win a state title this fall.

Impact Player for Montini Catholic

Montini Catholic is always filled with talented names year in and year out and the 2024 squad is no exception. Keep an eye on senior OL/DL JC Hayes (6-foot-2, 270 pounds) who will again be asked to lead the Broncos on boith sides of the line of scrimmage this season.

Looking or a sleeper name to watch this fall for Montini Catholic? Keep an eye on Montini senior QB Gaetano Carbonara who is a multi-year starter fpor Montini who looks to be in line for a big 2024 season.

EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2024 Montini Catholic Broncos

Montini Catholic and veteran head coach Mike Bukovsky is coming off a solid 9-3 season in 2023 as the Broncos lost a close game to eventual 3A state champion Byron in the 3A semifinals. The Broncos under Mike Bukovsky has posted an overall record of 44-28 in seven seasons and has made the IHSA state playoffs in 4 of those 6 playoff eligible seasons.

The biggest question facing Montini Catholic this summer?

Can the Broncos take those next big few steps, return to glory and capture a 3A state title on 2024? Montini has a ton of experience back and in all honesty was one of the few schools who made 2023 state champion Byron play a full four quarters last fall. The Broncos first need to survive the CCL/ESCC slate and get into the post-season and that in several ways could be as hard as any team they could face early on in the 3A state playoff field. Montini no question is a team on the rise this fall.
