Bears

Abreu's time was over. They drafted Vaugn very high in the draft and it's his turn for first base.

Anderson is great offensively and with bat flips but mediocre at SS. The Sox are terrible up the middle on defense except for Robert and our catcher who is involved in 95% of the action is an embarrassment behind the plate.

I have been wanting to comment on something for quite a while and either have forgotten or didn't have time...so here goes.

Why is it that pretty much all of the Chicago media, from TV to radio to social media to print, are all hoping and praying Aaron Rodgers goes to the Jets? I have said all along I would rather he stay and beat him. It's like they say we have to wait till he leaves GB before we can beat the Packers. Talk about a defeatist attitude. Of course that's what they said about Favre too.

What happens if Jordan Love turns out to be a superstar?? If that happens don't walk under any bridges or tall buildings in the Chicago area. You wouldn't want one of the people in the media landing on you when they jump off such structures. 😂 😂

I just want the whole thing to be resolved….

It's not defeatist, just reality. As a Steelers fan, I'd be thrilled if I woke up tomorrow to news that Joe Burrow had been traded to the Falcons. I'm sure the Raiders, Chargers, and Broncos would love it if Mahomes announced he was retiring, to go try and play baseball...

I think the Green Bay organization has finally had enough too. I'm guessing they very much regret that contract they gave the guy. He was not at the same level last year. He'll be 39 this year. If he goes to the Jets, it will be interesting to see how well he plays. It appears he's on the slide.

He had back-to-back MVP seasons followed by his thumb not being 100%, a subpar WR group, and terrible playcalling. He still has it in him...unfortunately.

I think Rodgers contract being what it is limits GB ability to surround him with anything. Which is a good thing for the Bears.

I wish he stayed. I think its to the bears advantage if he did stay. They weren't any good last year...bears were just epically not good either.

Somewhat, but he was willing to restructure as he is doing so with the Jets. Maybe he will end up in Minnesota like Favre, too.

I’m still extremely concerned about our DL, but this has to be the best offseason for the Bears since I’ve been alive… possibly even by default, but I’ll welcome a QB change in GB.

Yes, but there is still the draft, FA market is going to reset and cap casualties. This was always a 2-year process to rebuild this roster.

That’s fair and I understand, but at 9 are we really going DL? I do think we end up with DL with 2/4 top picks… but realistically even if we used our first 2 picks on DL, it’s probably 1 starter and a role player.

I don’t personally think Carter is on Bears draft board anymore based on our history of avoiding character issue guys in the draft. I think both Wilson and Anderson are gone. Who does that leave? I’m thinking we are more likely to draft one of the CBs or the OSU OT at 9 at this point based on who I feel will be available.

Yes it is defeatist. If you think you can't win before the game starts...you're beat already. That's defeatist. Do you think the Yankees give a damn who Boston signs? Do you think the Astros care? They do pay attention. But they don't base their attitudes on that. They play to win regardless of whos' on the other team.

Funny you mention his contract. I was reading about the contract in the WSJ a week or two ago. The article said the cap hit grows in his contract as time goes on which means it makes it harder for GB to make a deal as things progress. It also said that feature isn't very common in contracts. It said the cap hits start out large and decrease with time. I really don't know a lot about the nuts and bolts of his contract other than the 55M guaranteed, but I found that information interesting.

I didn't say "think you can't win", I said people/teams prefer an easier path.

Today starts one of the best examples of it. I can almost guarantee that some 11, 12, 13 seed will make it to the sweet 16 or even elite 8. Many times, it's not because they beat all the higher seeds in their bracket, but because other teams beat some of those higher seeds, and gave them an easier path. Doesn't mean they think they can't win, but if you could have an honest "off the record" conversation with a coach of a 12 seed that beats the 5 seed, do you think they want to face the 4 seed or the 13 in the second round?

They did this to kick the can down the road. This is becoming commonplace. Also when they add on "voidable years."

If you read my initial post, I was talking about the media. Not the players or coaches. Of course you would like an easier path. But that usually doesn't happen. Again, my point is, most in the Chicago football media have a defeatist attitude. What ever happened to the quote "to be the best, you have to Beat the best?"

Who cares what attitude the Chicago media has though? In the grand scheme of things, it matters zero.
For what it's worth I haven't noticed this from most in Chicago media but to each their own, I guess.

I agree with you LTHS
I would rather play GB with Roger’s. I actually think with the changes the Bears are making we would beat yhe Packers this year even if Roger’s was still there. GB is on a decline and the Bears are on an incline. IMO
Let’s see what they do in the draft. Bears have a ton of picks.

Joe Namath said he could wear it... but when asked about it today, Rodgers wouldn't comment.
Funny
I am not a Roger’s fan but he is a better QB than Broadway Joe. Namath made his name for his bold prediction they would win the SB. It does raise a good question. Why would he even ask if the number was retired?

Speaking for myself, my joy of Rodgers leaving GB has absolutely nothing to do with the Bears and absolutely everything to do with wanting the Packers to suck or at least be worse, and their fans having to watch a bad football team. Having Rodgers in a tiff with GB is just icing on the cake!

Not really a Bear fan but happy to see local kid Robert Tonyan coming to town. Is he the first FVC player to have real NFL playing time? I’m racking my brain to think of another.

Question is...how long will GB be bad? And "bad" in their minds is missing the playoffs or not winning the SB. "Bad" in Chicago is winning three games and ending up in last place. Just making the playoffs in Chicago is treated as great success.

I agree Corey. Outside of the SB win for Namath, his career numbers won't blow you away. The story I read said Namath was OK if Rodgers wanted to wear number 12. I didn't read anywhere that Rodgers wanted number 12. Maybe I missed that.

Well I don't know where you've been for the last 20 years or so. Because the subject comes up every year and it's been coming up again lately by more than one writer. I take the media with a grain of salt. Especially the news media. But they do have defeatist attitudes. Good thing the players don't.

Jace Slayer, who was also from McHenry. Bryan Bulaga who went to MCC. CJ Fiedorowicz from Johnsburg.

Probably not very long if any time at all, however if they do suck, I will absolutely enjoy it to the fullest. If Packers come out and win division with Love, then I guess not much has changed since I started watching football in 1995.

Streveler if you count MCC

I believe they have never had the #1 pick in the draft in the modern era (1960 to now)? The one year they had the #2 they followed it up with a 9-7 near miss (88/89)

Sayler would be the only FVC guy out of those. Dennis Gardeck from CL South got some playing time with Arizona. I can see Michigan OL Keegan from CLS playing in the NFL.

I'm curious about the opinions on this year's QB's in the draft. Lot's of chat about franchise QB's . I'm just not sold on any of them. Thoughts ?

I like Stroud the most, and think he's the most "sure thing." Young is very good, but a risk with his size. Levi's is a tough read because of the lack of talent that was around him, and same for Richardson. Richardson has the highest ceiling

Young will be the best QB regardless of his size. If any of them are a franchise QB is still yet to be determined.

I think if you google this website, it lists every NFL player I believe all-time who played his high school ball in Illnois.
According to the website, Evanston has had 25 of its former players play in the NFL. There is a three-way tie for second with 18 players. Those schools are Mt. Carmel, Oak Park-River Forest and (go figure) Lane Tech.
Note that I believe this website includes Illnois prep grads who played in the NFL as a "scab" in 1987 so it might be pretty complete.
The lengthy chart seems to indicate that as of the end of the 2022 NFL season, Edwardsville High was the only Illinois school with as many as 3 of its former players currently on an NFL roster.

Well, now that the baseball season is over for the Cubs I'm ready to discuss this draft. Who's on the board for us?
