Bears

Draft thoughts:

-Trade targets are HOU, INDY, Las Vegas, and Carolina. Any team further down than this I don’t believe makes sense to deal with. I think each team above is likely to draft a rookie over trading for a vet (Carr).

-Reports out of Indy that they like KY QB Levis. Personally sounds like a complete smoke screen to me. If real, they could likely stay at 4, but again I don’t buy it.

-Return for 1 overall should be 3x 1st rd picks + 2x 2nd rd picks is where Bears are asking as starting point. Can they get the 3rd 1st rd pick? That’s the biggest question to me.

If they are trading with Houston, not getting anything close to that. The upside is, they would only drop 1 spot, and could easily trade again.

For whatever it's worth (probably not much), the couple mock drafts I've seen have them trading with Colts and picking up a couple picks this year and next years #1.

This website is +/- what's expected (still shows HOU with #1, but pick values are the same). Using this as a guide, the Bears flipping with Houston would get them Houston's 2nd/3rd/4th this year. Or, maybe this years and next years 2nd. Where you see multiple 1st, is when a team lower in the draft wants that #1.

Even with the charts though, you never know when a team gets goofy over a specific QB.

I agree it’s probably unlikely the Bears get 3x 1st rd picks from HOU specifically, but if Indy and HOU are dead set on rhe same QB, the price will jump.

Moving down to texans pick may only be 2x 1st rd picks… if ur the Bears, the difference between 2 and 4 may be minimal, so the bears would take whoever is offering 3x 1sts. If HOU wants the pick over one of the other teams, they absolutely will have to pay a premium if all teams are aggressive enough to try and acquire the pick. We don’t know how aggressive these teams will be though, but the potential is certainly there for a massive haul.

The Vikings 4th and 8 and Cousins throws the ball 3 yards. Season over.

Vikings need a QB.
Minnesota's problem was not their QB this year. It was their terrible defense. Go look the numbers up. They were terrible on D. But, with that said I am no fan of Cousins either.

Cousins does not get it done in the playoffs. Great Vikings receivers are going to continue to move to other teams if Cousins stays.

It's about $48 million in dead cap space if the Vikings cut Cousins, and he has a no-trade. Pretty safe bet that he will be there next season.

Been watching the NFL playoffs all the way through and watched yesterday. Boy, the Bears have a LONG way to go to be competitive. And the refs were terrible yesterday.

I want Mahomes to buy me my next lottery ticket.
Chiefs did benefit from some calls, no doubt. But the refs didn't sack Burrow 5 times, they didn't make him throw 2 picks. and they didn't hit Mahomes late out of bounds at the end. Mahomes outplayed Burrow. I am very OK with the outcome. The Bengals big mouths wrote checks that their level of play couldn't cash yesterday. They thought it was over when they won in Buffalo. Well, it wasn't.

Not disagreeing that Mahomes outplayed Burrow. Just saying the guy has more lives than a cat and always comes out on top. I could use some of his good fortune if he was willing to buy my lotto ticket.

49er's have some big decisions to make this off season on which way to go with QB's. Who stays, who goes
Absolutely correct. I think Garoppolo is gone. But in my opinion, when he replaced Lance it wasn't like there was some big fall off. As you know he came in the game in week 2 and was injured in week 13. Their record was 8-3 when he played if he got credit for the week 2 win. He still has some gas in the tank. But, can he take a team to the SB and win?

I also think once Trey Lance comes back they will have a big time QB battle. I haven't seen enough of Lance to say whether I think he can play at that level. Purdy proved he can win. But, he had a ton of weapons too. Regardless of what some people say, all QBs need weapons to be successful.

Purdy's QB numbers were very good. His TD passes to INT percentage was very impressive. He can play. I saw an article predicting the 49ers trading Lance and signing Brady. I can't see that happening. Why?

They seem to have quite a few free agents to negotiate with. So, I guess we have to see how that all plays out as well. I was really disappointed to see them lose on Sunday and it sucked to see Purdy get hurt. I hope KC crushes the Eagles. I can't stand the NFC East.

Guess I need to add something else. Opened the Sun Times and read Brock Purdy suffered a torn ligament in his elbow. If it needs to be repaired he might be available by training camp. If it needs reconstruction he's done for 2023. So, it looks like they will need to see the diagnosis before moving forward with plans. Lance is not ready to play yet. And I think Garoppolo is a free agent.

I was wondering if he had torn something when they kept saying on the broadcast that he was feeling tingling in his fingers. That is usually not a good sign.

Niners decision just became easy imo. I think they will keep both QBs and have open comp. I’d expect Lance to be favorite based on Purdy’s surgery but could be a 2-year QB competition over next few years. I don’t know if they can trade Purdy now with the injury, and don’t know if it makes sense to trade Lance either for a lessened return than they drafted him for.

Jimmy G will be on a new team I think.

Good post I agree with you especially about the Eagles. I can’t stand them, I am rooting for KC. I was rooting for Cincinnati and SF but we saw how that played out!

I think Fields is gone. He is complaining a lot about Chicago even the cold weather. I think Fields wants out.

In fact I won't be surprised if the Bears trade Fields and the #1 draft pick for many draft picks to cover all their needs.

Huh? He made a comment about the weather and that leads you to believe he wants out? He actually went on to say it really is the wind more than the cold...... They are not trading him.

Whenever he talks about the Bears or Chicago he seems to backhandedly put both down. I have noticed this for a while now.

I also felt like his reaction right after the Bears picked him in the draft was one of disappointment. He at times leaves the field when the offense is stagnant and sits on his own on the bench looking like why am I here.

I just get bad vibes from him and I think he wants out and even never wanted to be a Bear. Maybe I am reading him wrong?

I am although a big fan of Fields.

Wassup - i’m not reading the same things you are. From what I can tell, Fields LOVES this city and the opportunity to be the Bears QB. I don’t think he wants out at all. Just my thoughts.

His demeanor reminds me too much of Cutler.

I know he was often on the losing end of things, not always due to faults of his own, but Fields sure seems aloof like was Cutler.
I would suggest that everyone read the entire comment instead of taking the Skip Bayless/Shannon Sharpe approach and selectively reading what attracts clicks.

At the end of the interview he said he wanted to be a Bear for life. Sounds to me like a guy that wants to stay here.

Clearly he can handle playing in bad weather.

I swear - we Bears fans do not deserve nice things when I read some of these comments.

You’re right Lake! Like I said in another pick the Bears will screw this draft up somehow. No way they should trade Fields!
Would you draft Bryce Young #1 then trade him for the 2nd or 3rd pick plus a top vet? OT, DT or Receiver? I mean how big are Polls balls? 😂 their are options and teams really want and need a QB bad! Bryce seems to me to be the best option.

This whole draft and the path it takes will be determined in a month with free agency starts. The d-line and o-line free agents are tantalizing. And they just cleared another $3m today.

Hard not to be enthused about where they are going and what they could do. I’ll be interested if they address what they need in FA if they don’t trade the pick and take Anderson. At least I hope they get that kid - he’s a menace

I would stay away from Bryce Young at all costs.

They are selling Bryce Young as a young Mahomes. How tall and how much do each of them weigh? The 5 foot 10 Young is small compared to Mahomes and will take a beating in the NFL. He will be injury prone. He is not big enough.

Fields is a big guy who can run like lightning and already proved he can take a beating with that terrible Bears o line.

Bears don't be suckered again like when the experts were trying to sell you on Trubisky, The so called young Mahomes is fools gold only the Bears brass will bite.
