Week 8 WB6 and TRAC

WB6

Moline over Galesburg: Moline put themselves in crisis mode after losing to UT last week. Galesburg picked up a nice win over a Rocky team that I thought was improving. While Galesburg has a chance to play the spoiler role, they have to travel to the Quad Cities and play a Maroons team that needs this win for a play off chance. Moline finds a way.

Sterling over Rock Island: Sterling showed the type of team it always could be in last weeks close loss to Quincy. Rocky got smothered by Galesburg. Now Sterling travels to the Quad Cities to create survival game number 2 to be played in that area. If we see the Sterling team that showed up against Quincy, I think they win this one comfortably. If not, I still think they win, but it’s a nailbiter.

Quincy over Geneseo: For all the conference marbles! Quincy is coming off a close win over Sterling where its started hot but the offense was shut out in the second half and the defense showed cracks giving up 5 touchdowns. Quincy was also hit by the turnover bug that game. Geneseo’s defense has been lock down all season long and this will be a very good test for it. Also, outside of 1 game, the Green Machine has put up yards and points. This this will be a good ole slugfest where Quincy jumps out to an early lead and then hangs on. I think this will be a 1 or 2 point game.

United Township gets the forfeit win and is probably kicking themselves for losing to Rock Island which would have put them at 4-4 going into the last week.

TRAC

Princeton over Mendota: Over by halftime and Princeton’s jv kids get some playing time.

Rockridge over Hall: Rockridge got a huge win last week beating Morrison on the road. Hall got handled by Newman and needs to win out to play in week 10. Sadly won’t happen though as the Rockets take care of business and win comfortably.

Kewanee over Newman: Two one loss teams going at it. Newman has a super defense and discovered some offense last week. Kewanee can score from anywhere on the field and also has a very good defense. Newman’s defense will (again) keep them in the game, but the Boilermakers will be too much for a tough, well fought game.

Bureau Valley over Aurora Central Catholic: Both teams are at 4 losses and need this one to have a chance week 9. BV has played tough all season long and their ability to play defense gives them the edge in this one and a week 9 showdown with Morrison.

Morrison over Riverdale: A bad Riverdale team gets an angry Morrison team…nothing to see here.

Monmouth-Roseville over Orion: Orion is a tough team, but MR is playing for it’s season. MR wins by a touchdown.

Sherrard over Erie-Prophetstown: Sherrard refuses to let their season end in week 8. EP has been playing better the past few weeks, but Sherrard has too much grit and weapons in the passing game.

CPL Pick 'Em Week 8

Dyett vs CVS
7-0 vs 6-1. No way I'm going against all that good Butkus energy surrounding CVS in the last week.
CVS!

Sullivan vs Mather
A Big Shoulders battle for the ages! In all honesty, if this can't take place at Hansen on the old Soldier Field turf, it needs to take place at Mather on the JV/practice field. The goal post planted directly in the middle of a baseball infield, the west sideline in the middle of a soccer field...that's football in the city baby! Just grab some dogs from Wolfy's across the street and Thursday doesn't get any more perfect.

South Shore vs Kennedy
Every year someone mentions that Kennedy missed out on the nickname game. Name a school after JFK and the nickname should definitely have something to do with the Cuban Missile Crisis or Bay of Pigs. Crusaders? Nope. Missile Pigs? Damn Straight. Speaking of nicknames, what is the South Shore nickname? If it isn't the Sea Shells, it might be a bigger miss than Kennedy.
Pigs!

Schurz vs Senn
Another Big Shoulders matchup! Schurz rolls into...wait...did you say Senn?... Too many words...
DAWGZ!!!!!!!!

Marine vs Longwood
I'm going to be honest, the only reason this game even made it on the list is because typing Longwood makes me giggle like a 6th grader. Every. Time.
Give me the wood!

If the PLAYOFFS started today….

Looks like Newt knocked it out again, so I won’t bother. Sorry for the tease. His thread is titled “I’ll give this a shot, playoffs” if you didn’t realize the work was already done. There is another thread about the playoff outlook too.

Thanks to everyone for the replies to my post last week. Feels nice to be appreciated. FWIW, I’ve been here all along. Reading everything. Just hadn’t posted. But as the calendar turns to November, I will undoubtedly be back debating nonsense and vagaries with all y’all.

Feeto's Friday Upset Special......

Let's start by saying the obvious...SUPERBOWL SUPER BEARS!! RIP #51. Now on to our upsets. I'm going to the Chicago Catholic League once again this week, and picking a team that constantly ends up in my thread. This week's upset is..... The 2-4 Roadrunners of Nazareth Academy over the still some how #24 ranked Crusaders of Br. Rice. As long as Coach Q from Rice continues rotating his QB's, they won't be a good team. This game is at Naz, and that's always a tough place to get a win. Nazareth seems to enjoy starting their season slow and then making a late move to the playoffs. This will be a really close game tonight, and I think coaching will be the biggest factor. Racki>Quedenfeld. I like the Roadrunners tonight. Final score, Nazareth 28 - BR. Rice 24. That's this week's upset. What are your thoughts and who is your upset?

What did we learn week 7!?!?!

Chaos, that’s what we learned this week. Well, other things too……

1 - That Lincoln didn’t like the play at Rochester (I’ll see myself out)
2 - That one stop can make a difference, Hoffman couldn’t get it.
3 - That the WSC Silver makes no sense and my head hurts.
4 - That maybe Loyola should’ve rested its whole roster, IC would’ve sent a lovely front basket.
5 - That Carmel Catholic is a major contender in 5A.
6 - That Rice and Rita will be a win or go home week 9.
7 - That the Leafs and Devils will battle it out next week - in football for the WB6 crown.
8 - That the end of Cary-Huntley was weird and a very bad look for football officials.
9 - That in honor of Dick Butkus, CVS is playoff eligible at 6-1
10 - That Edwardsville pulled one out and is unbeaten with AGNB next up.

That’s the end.

Althoff Over Mater Dei 41-22, Hill with 3 TDs

Tied at 20 entering the 4th, then Althoff took over against the now 5-2 Knights who look to be in 4A. Too many flags - most against Mater Dei, 150 yards. At some point, just let the boys play, why don't ya?

Watched the game from the "outer ring" with cocktails with my old linebacker coach/team attorney who had his own team for four years. Was nice for us to dissect with no filters. Hill is no Hickey, but very serviceable. We do not see Bama in his future, especially with the drops we saw tonight.

We bitched a lot but reminded ourselves this is 1a ball ... Althoff will be a tough out in the playoffs.

Had a drink with Coach Schott's first captain ... back in 1970 when the old man was over-capacity full of piss and vinegar ... those practices would make parents today poop limestone pebbles and result in police calls. We laughed about water deprivation.

Very pleasant evening in West Belleville with both teams tailgating in the adjacent Saint Henry's parking lot.

WSC Wk 7 Pick 'em

Week 7 - The week of the - most likely - "In's" and "Out's".

On the Gold side, Addison Trail is in position to get win number 5 this week and punch their ticket. Willowbrook is also in postion to get win 5, but will be in a tougher game against OPRF.

In the Silver, York and DGN are both in, while both LT and Glenbard West will very likely get there - if not this week, over the next two.

The WSC is projecting to have 7 of 14 teams in the playoffs. Then again, what do I know? I have the worst pick 'em record of participants who have played all 7 weeks. I'm even behind someone who missed week 1.

This week's games are below.

Wk 7 October 6
Morton (1-5) @ Addison Trail (4-2)
Hinsdale South (2-4) @ Proviso East (1-5)
Leyden (2-4) @ Downers Grove South (3-3)
Oak Park-River Forest (1-5) @ Willowbrook (4-2)
Downers Grove North (5-1) @ Lyons Township (4-2)
Glenbard West (4-2) @ York (6-0)
Hinsdale Central (1-5) @ Proviso West (0-6)
