Bears

Schefter just reported that sources are telling him Trey Smith will be franchise-tagged.
That Sucks The Office GIF
Yep, and for $23.4 mil.

That sucks but there are still options in FA. This leads me to believe it is OL in R1 more or less.
More than likely, but still a lot to he determined in FA first. Plus this is a fairly deep draft for OL. Bears have also set a meeting with Mason Graham, who has no shot of still being around at #10. Will they consider trading up for the top DL? Would they potentially trade back?

It's quotes like this from Schefter that make a trade more possible.

AH Mayor said the reports were not true. Doesn't mean it is not going to happen; doesn't mean they are not close, but it being a done deal is not true.
Not shocked, but at least there's movement. Bears are submitting a traffic and financial report for the AH property. Not a sexy move, but at least it's something.

The link is to the results of a survey conducted by the NFL Players Association on player satisfaction with their teams. It covers everything from facilities to coaches to owners. As you can see for yourselves, the Bears average a solid B.

Combine talk has Bears looking at Jeanty, Booker, and the OTs. I could see them grabbing an OT with one of the second round picks

Jonah Jackson for a 6th
As long as he's not their splash OL addition I'm fine with it. It's a start in the right direction. He's not a has been, journeyman or spot starter, which who have been partial too the last few years

The #Bears are expected to trade for #Chiefs All-Pro G Joe Thuney for a 2026 4th rd pick. He is 32 and on last year of deal $15 mil. I would expect they sign him to an extension. He was the 5th best pass blocking guard in 2024. So that is one for sure started added to OL.

And was able to play a pretty solid LT when needed. The lone exception of the Super Bowl

FINALLY! Still work to be done on that line, but this is a promising start.

Serious question: What the hell took Poles so long?

I also think Eberflus didn't paint a clear picture or wasn't on the same page as Poles. The coach and GM must have the same vision for the team. Either Eberflus didn't have a clear vision, he wasn't communicating it to Poles, or Poles didn't want to listen.

Dalman is gonna be the FA target now I think, 26 year old center from Falcons. Though might need to look at cap situation with both these guards just added.
It’s a good point. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dalman ended up somewhere else. There are a bunch of good centers in FA. I’m curious what this will mean for the draft.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a big splash in defense on day one of free agency. With all the focus on the OL the defensive line needs just as much help.

I think it is a misconception he ignored the OL. The whole Nate Davis thing really was a disaster. I think he got to cute and tried to built by outsmarting teams etc...
That's fair, I suppose.

Regardless, if I were to grade Poles on his personnel management of the OL up to these most recent two trades, I'd have to give him a D-. Wright has been ok in his first couple of years but has yet to set the world on fire. I think he has a fair amount of upside potential, but needs to up his game. Hopefully, having these quality guys around him will show him how.

The only coach on the Bears coaching staff under Eberflus all 3 years was the OL coach. I think that says a lot

Ya never was defending him in doing a good job just the narrative that he ignored it is false.
I think Wright has been good and with an average at min IOL will be even better, but just my opinion.

Joey Bossa released.
While he is slightly younger and maybe has a bit more left, getting him at this point would be similar to when the Bears got Jared Allen. It would excite some fans but it would be a very short term solution. But like getting back Mack, I wouldn't mind it as it for the right price because he would at least have to be accounted for as a legit threat on each play.

Trey Hendrickson is allowed to seek a trade. I'd give one of our second round picks for him....maybe

On the surface he'd be great, but after looking into it not sure it's a good fit. He's got a cap hit of $18 mil this year which would bring the Bears cap space down to $32 mil. This is the last year of his contract so they would need to extend him and he's going to want Maxx Crosby money (he just got 3 years, $106.5 mil.). He will also be 31 at the start of next season.

There's a reason he and the Bengals couldn't agree on an extension.

Agree
Hope he has done his homework and really gets some OL studs. I like the Joe Thuney. Jackson seems iffy. I don’t want guys that are injury prone. He might do well has a back up but not a starter. We need another top notch FA lineman and another top guy from the draft.
