Bears

Why put Fields back in the game down by 2 scores 4.12 left in the game. That’s dumb coaching.stupid
Why, the fear of him getting injured? The Bears need an elite QB to be competitive and Fields is not there yet, no matter how fans want him to be elite, he isn’t there yet. He gains nothing sitting on the sideline, watching will not make him better in the long run. Getting reps against one of the best teams in the NFL and one of the better defenses is what this kid needs right now to get to the next level.

Would a HS Coach sit his Soph QB in a game down less than a TD in week 9 just so he won’t get hurt for next season? The benefits he got from todays game far outweigh the risk of him getting hurt so bad how won’t be able to play next season.

Sorry
I totally disagree. We are playing for next season. This season is done. The game today was done. The risk of injury for a game that means absolutely nothing is just dumb. I agree he needs to play but not at the end of a game that means zero. I will spin it differently. What would they be saying if he did get injured seriously. Everyone would be saying why was he even in the game. IMO

Corey, I will have to disagree with you. I think Fields should have played as long as he was able in that situation. If the Bears were down big then I could see sitting him. He did get hit a lot yesterday. But this is the NFL. Let me counter with this. Suppose Fields had led a comeback win in the end. That would have done more for him and the Bears than any other game this year.

This game was a measuring stick, not only for Fields but the team itself to gauge exactly where they are and how far they have to go to get to that level. Given the difference in the talent level between the two teams I thought the Bears held their own in this contest.

I still say, however, I'd like to see Fields throw for more yards and run less often. But the OL is really not very good. So, this is what he has right now and he has to adapt. I am liking what I see, in general. Just hope he can get through this without any major damage.

The Bears have a lot of holes, especially on both lines. But, we'll see how things progress.

Then why not sit every potential starter for next season?

The games reps will make him better and he needs those game reps. He won't get any better just going up aginast the Bears defense. Look at the elite QBs in the league now and in the past, were they sitting on the bench in meaningless games late in the season?

Mahomes had only 1 start his rookie year in a meaningless game, in week 17 due to the Chiefs sitting Alex Smith because they had already clinched a playoff spot. Other than the playoff loss that year, he has been the starting QB since.

Jalen Hurts started the last 4 meaningless games for the Eagles last season, and they were 4-10-1

Josh Allen a started the last 11 games his rookie season while the Bills were 6-10.

Players get better by playing whether the game is meaningless or not. Management, ownership, and fans may see the games as meaningless but these games are not meaningless to the players. They are playing with hopes of staying on the roster, getting signed by another team, getting an extension, etc., no game is ever meaningless to those players on the field.

So I suppose you would of been fine if Fields was injured with 4 minutes left down by two scores. I can hear it now. Their has to be some common sense. The play calling needs to get better we shouldn’t have this many designed runs for our QB. He gets hit enough when the plays aren’t designed. We need Fields for the future. In my mind the more carries he has the more likely he will be injured.

This season is done. We are playing for next year. I get it we want Fields to keep improving and yes game time makes a difference. I just don’t believe we need to have him running the ball with 4 minutes left and down by two scores in a game we don’t need to win. Listen nobody wants the Bears to beat Philly more than me! I hate Philly anything. It goes beyond this game. 😂
I am looking for next year. In my mind I have seen enough Fields is our QB he has already proved this, I want him to make it through this season without serious injury. Our coach better be as smart.

Yes, infact I would not complain one bit if he got hurt. If he gets hurt he gets hurt, just like every other player on the field.
He would have 9 months to recover and he's not that great of a QB yet. He needs game reps, that's the only way he will get to the level we all want him to be at. Sitting on the sidelines does nothing to help him. He has continued to make progress because he is playing and I would like to see his progress continue.

🤮

We would not be discussing whether to pull out the QB in the game if we drafted our o line before the QB.
Well wisdom would make you think that way but I have seen the Bears have good OL since 1985 and the offense and team still sucked. I like the direction the Bears are going I just want them to be smart until we can add some missing pieces. We have our QB now let’s get him some help in the draft and free agency.

Due to the cold Bear ticket prices vs the Bills down to $9.
You made me look at stubhub..... You can get 50 yard line seats in 300 level for under $100. 400 level on the 50 for $30. The "cool dad" part of me wants to ask my one daughter to go (she'd likely say yes). The "it's way too damn cold" part of me wants to forget your post. Right now, the "cold dad" part is winning...

As cheap as $6 now

Depends on what your definition of "decent" is. I don't remember being in favor of such a trade.
I wasn’t either because it wouldn’t have put us over the top, Wilson is too old, and it was past time to keep mortgaging the future. There was plenty of chatter and call ins on sports radio in support of that move, though.

I must stop reading/listening to the mounting number of post-loss blatherings of Eberflus, Donovan and, to a lesser extent, Richardson. What an unenviable position as the Head Coach to defend such a sorry bunch of poorly-assembled, losing, under-achieving and irrelevant franchises. Ignoring such media content has the makings of a New Year's resolution. Since the September collapse of the White Sox, what a sad year 2022 has been.

We wasted a draft pick on Claypool. He can't play.

Can't be wasting draft picks like this anymore. Pace did enough of trading picks away.

New GM Poles looks like a bust imo with that Claypool trade. A top 35 pick and they piss it away for a WR4. I don’t have faith in the bears new FO, but hopefully their 1st rd pick will be bust proof with such a high pick. Also doesn’t give me faith for the $100M they have saved up in cap.

Maybe the worst O-line performance of the year, and that's saying something. Fields actually looked discouraged in this game. He had multiple guys in his face with just about every pass attempt.

Assuming they lose in Week 18, the Bears will have no worse than the second pick. They need so much, it's in their best interest to trade down and acquire multiple picks. Bryce Young and CJ Stroud both looked good in their Bowl games yesterday. Hopefully, they will perform well in their pro days, and QB starved teams are willing to overpay for the 1st or 2nd pick. The Texans have a legitimate shot to beat the Colts in Week 18. A Texans win and a Bears loss nets the Bears the first pick.

I don’t think it does. Bears beat the Texans so they would still have 1st pick if they both finish with the same record. The Bears have a ton of picks in the draft. IMO they should keep the # 2 pick and take the best player they can get. Maybe LB Anderson Alabama or OSU Marvin Herrison JR or? The Bears don’t need a QB right now so if not one of those guys above maybe the best O-Lineman available? We don’t need a running back. Get Receiver, OL /DL/LB/DB
O my! Lol

Highly unlikely they finish with the same record. Texans have a tie.

Harrison is not eligible for the draft. No other WR is worthy of the #2 pick. Has to be Anderson or Carter or a trade down for a huge haul.
