Bears

On the flip side what if he comes out and puts up better equal or equal passing numbers to Justin Fields? Would that make you doubt the QB of the future?
At this point in time, the jury is still out with respect to Justin Fields. The performance of Nathan Peterman in this game will have no bearing on that matter.

If Peterman performs well, I will feel good for him after all the difficulties he has experienced so far in his career. I believe Sports Illustrated described him as 'the least successful quarterback of the last decade'. However, a single game is not going to change anyone's opinion of him. He has had ample time to demonstrate he is, at best, a third-string NFL quarterback.

To specifically answer your question, I already have some doubts as to whether or not Justin Fields is the Bears' QB of the future. Consequently, Peterman's performance will not be a determining factor in creating such doubts. With that said, I (with my layman's opinion) have not concluded that Fields is not the QB of the future. I'm willing to give him another year and therefore would not use this year's first draft pick to draft a quarterback. I recognize there is an opportunity cost to such a view, because the Bears can't count on having a top two or three pick in future years. Nonetheless, I don't see a college quarterback out there that is worth a top-three pick and, as previously stated, my mind is not yet made up regarding Justin Fields.

We’ve gone through Moses Moreno, Craig Krenzel, Jonathan Quinn, Henry Burris, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera…. I could name 15 names.

Peterman is by FAR not the worst QB who has started for the Bears lol that we’ve seen, maybe not even in the bottom 10.

By far?

Here are the five quarterbacks we have named so far, ranked in the order of their career NFL passer ratings. I have included some relevant career statistics.

1. Jonathan Quinn: 4 Touchdowns - 7 Interceptions - 60.4 Rating
2. Moses Moreno: 1 Touchdown - 2 Interceptions - 58.1 Rating
3. Craig Krenzel: 3 Touchdowns - 6 Interceptions - 52.5 Rating
4. Nathan Peterman: 3 Touchdowns - 14 Interceptions - 32.2 Rating
5. Henry Burris: 3 Touchdowns - 5 Interceptions - 28.4 Rating

Henry Burris's entire NFL playing career consisted of six games (one season) with the Bears. Given that he then went on to win three Grey Cup championships as a starting quarterback in the Canadian Football League, was named the Grey Cup MVP twice, was named the CFL season-long League MVP twice, and had a career CFL passer rating of 93.5, one could argue he was better than Nathan Peterman.

Craig Krenzel won a national championship as the starting quarterback at Ohio State.

I think Peterman has been in the league for close to a decade. How bout the others? Maybe Krenzel was on practice squad for a bit. Quinns NFL career basically ended after he proved how bad he was with the Bears.

Peterman keeps bouncing around but he is landing rosters spots.

Edit: ok guess only 5 seasons, seems a while. Maybe he is as bad as the above.. just feels like Quinn was the worst of the bunch.

Same reason the 49ers are in the playoffs and the Bears aren't...their record
If Texans won they would have the same record as the Bears. The Bears beat the Texans head to head so that would mean the Texans would have been the worst team and would have the #1 pick. Maybe I am missing something. I hope you’re right.

Doug Flutie was iced out in the Bears locker room and never given a chance. He went on to have a stellar, 20-year career in both Canada and the NFL. Another missed opportunity, which the Bears are masters of.

Is it? Is there a difference maker for this team sitting at one? They need an overhaul.
#1 pick is extremely valuable. Could potentially trade with Seattle who needs a QB, get their 3rd pick (the DE or DL) plus a few of Seattles other picks. The Bears need a lot of picks.

I just saw the Texans had a tie so the Bears have the #1 pick. Nice! Now let’s see how they screw it up. 😩
I thought we went over this already. The head to head basically didn’t matter. The Texans have had a tie since week one. The Bears and Texans were never gonna tie for worst record.

I want them to trade down and at least get one offensive lineman out of this draft pick.

Fair enough.
The Bears have a lot of picks plus huge salary cap room. Any GM/Coach worth a damn should be licking their chops. If the Bears don’t improve with what the have they should all be fired. It’s mind boggling that we continue to blow at the top level management every year. I feel they already get a F grade for the signing of Chase Claypool. IMO He isn’t worth what the gave up in draft picks.

Texans have a tie so their winning percentage is better than the Bears.

Yes but also need to see what FA brings.

I am more of a believer of building a team through the draft.

For me free agency is more about fixing your team due to previously weak, trading away, or giving away draft picks and for teams who may need one more piece to have a shot at the Super Bowl.

You need both. FA will tell us a lot on what their draft targets are, they basically need everything..

I realize that because Pace threw away or gave away it seems like 10 to 15 draft picks during his time here. He ruined this team and it's future.

For right now I just want to keep my QB upright and that's why I want at minimum one offensive lineman drafted in the first or second round.

If they don't draft a o lineman early then for Field's sake I rather see him traded to a team with a good offensive line.

Here is a question to ponder.

What is more valuable?

Josh Field's or the #1 draft pick?

I would like to see a bonafide receiver to go along with the OL. Also can we get a DB and a DL to make some key stops? My my we need some help but I really think we have the draft picks and salary cap room to help.

Same page same page but some of needs have to be through FA. We just need to see what FA brings. Both lines need to be rebuilt.

So if Fields was in the draft and your team badly needed a QB you would not select Fields #1?
Impossible to answer that question. This is very simple - THEY ARE NOT DRAFTING A QUARTERBACK NUMBER 1! Not gonna happen. They are not trading fields they are not drafting a QB - if you listed 53 things they needed to match the number on the roster, QB would be there at the bottom along with kicker and punter. NOW STOP the stupidity please.

I tend to agree with you, but wouldn’t rule anything out. It all depends on what they can get in a potential trade. As promising as Fields seems, he’s not Poles guy and therefore is not untouchable.

The Bears also have to at least give the smoke signal of an idea that they are willing to part with Fields as that gives them more leverage. Poles 100% should explore every option. Maybe there’s another Gm out there who is as dumb and reckless with draft picks as Pace was.

That I agree with. Their are so many glaring needs on this roster that need to be filled that looking to draft one is too far down list.
