Bears

Losing 41-10 Our coach is starting to act like he is taking orders. He said he is keeping Fields in the game to get experience. WTF he needs to learn how to lose? I want to have faith in the new coach but man he is acting like a fool. Let’s keep Fields healthy for next year. This year is done and we are playing for the best draft pick we can get. Smarting up eberfool!

Unfortunately the only thing keeping Fields out of this last game is an injury. If that happens I am in favor of firing this fool. Totally stupid IMO

Bears got flagged for 2 separate holding penalties and they STILL gave up a sack on the play!

Agree with Corey. Yes, Fields needs game reps...but I think by now he's got the scramble-for-his-life plays down pat. We know he's got wheels. Don't need to keep proving that.

What he needs are plays with time to find receivers who are running good routes. He isn't getting either with this group. Instead, he's an injury waiting to happen.

Just listened to the Hamp and OB podcast.

I think this is the last year they are doing the show.

The only way to eliminate the learning curve is to play, he can learn on the job while the games are meaningless or you can hold him out and have him learn on the job in meaningful games next year. You have to use the game reps when you can get them and meaningless game better for that then meaningful games next year.

Maybe he doesn’t learn in this meaningless game if he gets injured. Maybe we don’t have him next year if he gets injured in a stupid meaningless game. We have a complete different opinion. If he plays and gets injured I would fire the coach for making a reckless decision IMO.

I would not be surprised if Fields is gone at the end of the year for a package of draft picks.

I would not do that but Fields was not this GMs pick.

The Steelers played a dinged up rookie QB so he can get experience if he is lost for the should they fire Mike Tomlin for being reckless? It is the NFL everyone is dinged up at this point.

I will say this I would run him less but he needs to play imo.

Which other team would be that dumb? I could see a team with running QB already wanting to add him as a complement 1-B and packages guy but the Bears would ask way too much.

Learning curve ? 7/21 for 75 yds. What's he learning survival techniques ?

It would go down as the dumbest trade I the history of trades. Yeah I could see the Bears doing it.

Different team. Who cares what the Steelers are doing. Their QB isn’t the QB of the future IMO. If he is then they have bigger problems.

Needs to learn to be a better passer.
Hahaha
He knows how to pass. Learn to, wait to get injured? Wow! Who in the he’ll wants their QB to learn that lesson. Hahaha. Lets get our QB of the future more experience in a game that means absolutely nothing? Maybe they are looking to trade him? Another bad decision in a long line of bad decisions. If they do trade Fields I am done.

I don't think it will happen, but I can at least see a path to it. Right or wrong, if the Bears fall in love with one of the QB's, and they get a decent return for Fields, they could look at it as a complete reset. New GM, new coach, new roster. Teams don't get top 2 or 3 picks every year. If they decide Bryce Young (or whoever) is a better bet long term......

It’s his second year in the league and he hasn’t proven yet to be the guy that will lead the bears to the playoffs.

He hasn’t earned the right to sit out.

Why is this even a discussion? If dude is healthy you play. Why is that up for debate.

Only in Chicago could a guy who has thrown for 4100 yards in 27 games with 24 TDs and 21 Ints be anointed a savior and considered for rest.

What is the estimated lifespan in the NFL for a primarily running QB vs primarily a passing QB?

In a way I would be happy as a Fields fan if he were traded to a team with a good offensive line. I would still be a fan of him.

Lamar Jackson has been hurt I believe 3 of the past 4 yrs to probably give us our best example/comparison.

Is fields a good passer? No. Do I think hes the best player on our entire team? Yes. That’s why we’re guaranteed a top 2 pick tho. He’s got to improve but the Bears are so god awful at every single spot outside maybe DB that we have to be happy about having Fields as our QB.

The Bears ARE that bad.

I don't know all the tiebreakers, but the Bears could still screw up and win this week. Could drop them to 4.
I always think drafting high is over blown. The same teams are good every year and they never draft high.

Patriots, Steelers, Packers, Chiefs, etc…

Every so often there is a can’t miss QB (Manning, Luck, Etc) but that’s once every 10 years.

Heck, the bears have hit on only a couple first rounders in the past 20 years.

Go out there and play to win the game. Build the culture of winning and everything else takes care of itself.

I think the one big difference with this draft would be if the Bears are interested in trading down a little, and adding picks. At #2 (and ahead of Seattle) there would likely be more interest from teams looking to move up and grab a QB.

Trading down and acquiring picks is proven way to build a roster, the Bears were doing a good job getting picks then they sent a top 35 pick away for Chase Claypool which is looking like a terrible move currently.

So much to talk about with Fields, the Bears and the league.

Fields - I think he will start and play. At least until he breaks the QB rushing record which is the most meaningless stat there is for a QB.

The Bears - They have SO many holes and they will not be very good for a while. I know teams can turn things around quickly at times. But I don't see it happening here anytime soon. The Vikings have to play the game this week with their starters. They are the 3rd seed in the playoffs currently and can move up to the 2 slot.

There is a big difference between the 2 and 3 spot. Being number 2 guarantees a team two home games...provided they do win their first game. The 3 slot does NOT guarantee a team 2 home games. If the 3 slot wins and the 2 slot wins, the 3 slot travels to play at the 2 slot's place.

I do not know why the Bears and Vikings are scheduled for a Noon kickoff, but the 49ers and Cardinals don't kickoff till 3:25. Bears and Vikings should be kicking off at 3:25. If for some reason the Bears beat the Vikings the 49ers will get the 2 spot before they even play.

The League and the Playoffs - From a league standpoint, the Bengals and Bills postponement is going to have to be figured out. I do not think they should have continued the game on Monday. But I do think it has to be played at some point. There are huge playoff implications coming from this game.

Strictly from an overall scheduling perspective, the "best" solution would have been for them to play yesterday. Hard to imagine the teams being in the right mindset for that though.

Not that there will ever be a "good" time for a players heart to stop..... but this case is horrible timing. The only real solution now, if the game is played, would be every playoff team gets a bye and the game is played next week. The bye week before the superbowl goes away.

It's a huge game for playoff seeding too. The top 3 AFC teams (Bills, Bengals, Chiefs) could end up in any of the 3 seeds, with a lot of it dependent on the suspended game. Both the Bengals and Bills beat the Chiefs already this season. (Bengals could actually still finish anywhere from 1 to 5 seed)

The game has to be played if they don't play it there will most be likely a class action lawsuit alleging game fixing since you have a large amount of bets placed prior to the year on overall finish and Super Bowl winners and those would be impacted by not playing the game and the seeding not being true.

Game doesn’t have to be, and will not be played imo. NFL has easy decision to call it a no decision. Seeding is based on win % and a no decision does not affect win %.

Sports books already refunding bets as obvious. Only ones who got screwed were fantasy football players but guess what, that’s how it goes sometimes. Fantasy football finalists will likely have to accept a “split the pot” with the other remaining finalists in their league.

In order to play the game they would have to take away the bye week before the Super Bowl and move playoffs back a week. This is an option imo, but not likely as calling the game a no decision. Super Bowl date is set in stone, that will not change, so it would just be pre-super bowl rounds that move back.

As for the Bears, the claypool trade soured me on having any faith in the GM, but I completely agree Bears need to get top 2 pick and trade back to a team looking to draft a QB.

A 'no decision', or a tie, would 100% affect win %/seeding.

To make the math easier, let's assume the Bills and Chiefs win this weekend.

If the game isn't made up: Chiefs 14-3, Bills 13-3 or 13-3-1. Chiefs are #1 seed
If game is made up (and Bills win): Both teams are 14-3 and Bills are #1 seed (head-to-head tiebreaker)
Considering the Bills have lost the last two AFC championships at KC, they probably want to #1 seed.

There's also many possibilities involving the Bengals and Ravens, if the game is played. Those go away with a cancellation.

From my view, the Bills were ahead of the Chiefs for the 1 seed prior to Week 17. I would keep that and give Bills 1 seed (provided they win this weekend), Chiefs 2 seed, and Bengals 3 seed. Seems to make sense to me.

If Chiefs have issue w that, then they should have beaten the Bills in head-to-head matchup and the 1 seed argument would be a mute point.

The best thing would have been to have the Bengals and Bills finish the game on Wednesday at the latest. This whole thing of cancelling the game entirely complicates everything.

It's a slippery slope though.

You are gifting the Bills a win, and saying they should still be the #1 seed.

But, does that mean you are "gifting" the Bengals a loss? If the Ravens beat the Bengals this week, they will be 11-6, with 2 wins over the Bengals. The Bengals will be 11-5 (with a game not played). That makes the Bengals the 3 seed, and a home playoff game. Ravens a 5 seed, and on the road.

if Ravens beat Bengals, I would still have bengals above the Ravens for 3 seed. It isn’t perfect, but there is no perfect option.

Owners decided to cancel it entirely

In a strange kind of way I am looking forward to watching this last game of the season for the Bears. I'm curious to see how bad of a quarterback Nathan Peterman is. Based on statistics, I have never seen a quarterback this bad start an NFL game. Over six seasons he has thrown 3 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions, and has a career 32.2 passer rating. Gosh, he once threw 5 interceptions in a single half. I think he has thrown only 11 total passes over the last four seasons.

On the flip side what if he comes out and puts up better equal or equal passing numbers to Justin Fields? Would that make you doubt the QB of the future?
