Bears

How can this happen in the NFL?

Bears Public Leauging (Big Shoulders, Hubbard, old MP) the FG and extra points.

Working so couldn’t catch much of the game, but coming back and winning the 2nd half is often a sign of good coaching.

Hey Wassup.....how did your buddy, Allen Robinson, look for the Rams last night? He had one catch for 12 yards. I suspect the Rams are going to regret that FA signing.
McVay admitted to the misuse of Robinson and others in week 1

I hate to be Debbie Downer and I'll take the W. But come on. The 49ers were absolutely horrible yesterday. Twelve penalties for 99 yards. And that 84 yard drive the Bears had for a TD was aided by the 49ers who gave the Bears 20 yards and two first downs on third down plays.

Yep. In these parts we gotta take the wins no matter how they come, whether it's penalties or a monsoon rainstorm. And yes, I am happy to see them win. But, I'll be a believer when they beat Green Bay, OK? At least more of a believer than I am at this point.

You mean the same 49ers team that many had picked for a deep run in the playoffs?

I think I’m firmly convinced that even if the Bears win a super bowl you’ll still find something to complain about.

In the second half chicago was far and away the better team. They beat SF and physically beat them up.

I think we all get it that this team isn’t ready to win any playoff games or anything like that. But yesterday was significant progress we haven’t seen in some time.

When you have a draft class that contributed at that many spots yesterday it’s hard not to be optimistic. They may get beat by GB this week, but that hardly derails what’s happening here and happening here for the first time in a long time.

First of all, you don't even know me. You're confusing me with Rick Morrissey. LOL. No one was happier than I was when they did win that one lonely trophy. As a matter of fact, I was saying to anyone who would listen during the whole 1985 season, the Bears were the best team in the NFL by far. And they were. You weren't there to hear it.

Sure the Bears played better than SF in the second half. But the bar was quite low. And I will agree with you on one thing. If this was a Matt Nagy coached team, the Bears would probably have lost that game. Yes, so far the coaching seems better. But they have only just begun. Like Bill Parcells said, "you are what you record says you are." So far so good. But geez, don't get crazy for heaven's sake.

But, with the Bears I have been a wait and see kind of guy for at least 30 years. That is based on what I have seen with this team. I wasn't that way in the 1980s. The Bears have an easier schedule this year than last year so it's possible they may win 7 games, maybe more. They won one yesterday no one expected. Biggest upset of the day. Now watch. They have the Giants and Jets on their schedule this year. It would be just like the Bears to lose to one of those teams.

Some of you guys seem to be OK with rebuild after rebuild. That doesn't work for me. Having multiple head coaches, multiple OCs, multiple GMs, etc. isn't going to work and hasn't worked.

I am happy with the win. But that was yesterday.

Bottom line when you play smart football, don’t make turnovers and aren’t penalized, you’re chances of winning increase significantly. Of course the weather affected the game, but the Bears seem to be a MUCH more disciplined football team.

Call it the HITS or call it not playing dumb and/or being poorly coached, but the Bears are at least on the right track imo at the BEAR minimum.

This is the first true rebuild where they have gotten rid of dead cap, opened up cap space and started to hold from the draft.

you make it seem like they beat Lincoln way west yesterday. SF by many “experts” is expected to go deep into the playoffs and they were thoroughly outplayed in the second half.

It’s ok to be bitter and refuse to see the first for the trees. On to next week.

LWW is a very solid team with an outstanding defense.

Honestly, you amuse me and make me laugh. No, the Bears have "rebuilt" multiple times and have had multiple HCs, GMs and OCs. I was surprised to see SF projected to go so far. Their QB is unproven and played his 3rd game yesterday. But, let's take a trip down memory lane.

Remember the 2020 season? That year the Bears played and beat the Tampa Bay Bucs 20-19. As a matter of fact, that 2020 team was 5-1 at one point. But, let's ask how the season turned out for the Bears and Bucs that year.

The Bucs went into the playoffs as the number 5 seed. They beat Washington, the Saints and the Packers ALL on the road to get to the Super Bowl. Then they won the SB. The Bears? They backed into the 7 seed at 8-8 and lost to the Saints 21-9. Remember, that was the game the Bears scored the meaningless TD on the last play of the game.

SF has a pretty tough schedule this year with games against the AFC West, TB, MIA, not to mention games in their own division. But I think they will still end up with a better record than the Bears. Especially when Kittle comes back. They just played a very poor game yesterday. That is what my point is. I didn't say they are a bad team.

Let's just see how each team does this year. I guess if the 49ers make the playoffs and the Bears don't we can still say the Bears beat them in week 1. So, there's that.

Something I didn't address in my last post. Yes the Bears "outplayed" the 49ers in the second half. Again, the bar was quite low. The first TD drive included a 51 yard TD pass on a busted play that was a fluke. The second TD scoring drive was aided by two 49er 3rd down penalties and gave the Bears first downs and 20 yards. The fact is, the 49ers were a lot more bad than the Bears were good. But, a win is a win.

The Bears have a lot of things they need to get cleaned up if the want to compete against the Packers. And if GB rushes for 4.9 yards a carry and 176 yards they will beat the Bears by at least three touchdowns.

Fluke for some QBs. But when some QBs scramble and WRs find the open space in man or soft spot in zone and these other QBs find them for a big gain or even a score like yesterday, those other QBs are called magicians or wizards.

Wow it must absolutely suck to be this miserable. You have a nice day. Go Bears

Most encouraging part of the game was the productivity from the draft picks. 2 secondary players were on the field for every snap, a DE got a sack and start at LT
According to pro football focus, the bears played the most 1-2 year players in the league yesterday. That and a cap with $97m in available spending for next season and beyond? Gotta like where this is headed at the moment.

Like I say you amuse me. How could anyone who is a Bears fan be miserable with a win? Once again I will write, I am HAPPY with the win. But you come off like they played this great game. I was concerned with the quality of their play. They simply aren't going to win many games if they play well for only one half. that is all I am saying. Stop with the Pollyana act.

Much like the bengals trying to kick the ball, you missed the point. I know what this team and what this team isn’t. They aren’t a playoff team - not close. They aren’t ready to win consistently. What I will take away Sunday is there were obvious things they did do against one of the top teams in the NFC. Be it for a half or a whole game.

clearly they need to get better but Sunday was significant improvement over the drek we have seen the last year plus. If they continue to build off of that, it will translate down the road, which, is what the goal of all of this is. No one with any football sense thought this was a playoff team this year. But with a bunch of draft choices again next year and nearly $100m in cap space, it’s hard not to be enthused about where this is headed.

I’m going to continue to be optimistic about this team because their are a number of reasons to be that way regardless of what happens this Sunday.

Yeah, I agree with what you're saying. If this team continues to improve and looks better at the end of the year I will be the first to come here and tell you, that you were right. If not, I just won't mention it.

I heard something interesting on the radio this morning. If the Bears do go up to Green Bay and beat the Packers, with the Texans next, what do they do? Do they go all in and say forget about the rebuild, let's win now, or what? It's a very good question considering their situation.

I think if, for some reason, they do win on Sunday night they should go for it. Why not? Nothing would please me more than to see them beat GB. But, that is a tough ask.

I don’t see the Bears offseason plans changing whether they win 5 games or 11 this season. If they have cap they will try to use it smartly, unlike MLB revenue sharing where teams actually benefit from having embarrassingly low payrolls.

I think next draft will be clear to try and improve the offensive talent around Fields (WR, TE, OL).
