Bears

I realize its your job to argue with every post made, but there were 6 seconds left. Washington isn’t trying to run a 25 yard route to get into 57 yard FG range.
Not my job. just try to keep everyone level headed and objective when they go to extremes every week.

I’m not being extreme though. There were 6 seconds left, and even with nobody playing defense, it took 4 seconds to get the free 13 yards. No chance they had time to run a “get into FG range play”. It would have been a 65 yard hail mary, or some sort of crazy lateral play

Completely understand what your saying, but then if you go that route and a WR gets behind the DB and goes for a TD then everyone says why weren't they playing back. They had already given up one 60+ yard pass earlier.

One in maybe 50 hail Mary's gets completed and when one does everyone wants to scrutinize everything about it and look to place the blame somewhere, but the truth of it is that no matter what, these things happen from time to time and when it happens to your team you want someone to blame, but the only thing the Bears did wrong was not having their deepest guy deeper than Washington's deepest guys.

Not saying that, but even if they get 23 yards instead of 13 yards they likely have 2-3 seconds for a 55ish yard FG. Not a likely scenario but had they done that and got burned people would have been even more pissed.
They didn’t have any TO’s. The only way they would have gotten 23yds is to throw the ball to the middle of the field.

This couldn’t have happened.

In this situation the defensive coverage should have been three guys on each side defending the sideline (short, intermediate and deep). You also have a guy playing center field like a traditional cov 3. You then rush 4.

There will be lots of questions to answer tomorrow for Eberflus.

Works both ways.

Same coaching staff that game planned back to back games scoring 5 TDs.

Same offensive staff that averaged 24.7 ppg coming into today which ranked 12th in the league.

Same staff that is developing Caleb to the point that there are those of you that claim he's developing and growing nicely.

Same OC who brought Geno Smith back from the dead.
But they weren't playing the same team.

How can you possibly say this? You can't. It took 4 seconds just to get the 13 yards. No way they could have gained 10 more yards without the clock running out. You can't run a 23 yard pass play in 3 or 4 seconds. What are you smoking? Tony Romo pointed out what they should do on the second to last play. He was absolutely correct. A lot of people don't like Romo but the guy isn't stupid and is very insightful. If he saw that, why didn't the Bears coaching staff? I am talking about the staff upstairs.

You woulda thought the bears woulda called TO before this play to get the defense right. You wouldn’t think they’d be OK with giving away 15 free yards.

FWIW, DJ Moore this morning said he was surprised on the run play to the lineman. Said they’ve practiced it for a few weeks but didn’t think they’d actually run it and especially not in that scenario.

Said he understood why the fans are questioning the OC. He didn’t say the players are questioning him.

I don’t know how the OC can still have the faith of the players. What a shart show position our offense is in with a rookie QB.

I agree. A lot of people are hung up on the last two plays. The second to last play is what set the whole thing up. I agree with something someone else said. Don't give up anything outside on that play and force the WRs into the middle.

A couple weeks ago I said I didn't think the Bears are a playoff team...and I still don't. I am looking at things objectively. If they lose in AZ this Sunday, no way they get in because that schedule after NE is a buzz saw.

It's the old saying. Good teams find a way to win when they don't play well and average or bad teams don't.

That is a play you run when up by 2 TDs or are KC etc. They preach ball security but give the ball in that moment to a guy that doesn't carry the ball???? weird decision.

The fact that Flus is doubling down on this play call today speaks volumes. I have a bigger issue with not having a timeout before the last couple plays to make sure his defense minus two starters was lined up correctly.

He is so overmatched.

Maybe he is saving those two TOs for today?
Call the TO before the last play to MAKE SURE all on the same page. WASH was going to do the same thing no matter what IMO.

So ya….

Matt Eberflus on ESPN 1000: "The play before the (Hail Mary), I'm not concerned about."

Dan Quinn to @AlbertBreer: “That’s the one you need. If we don’t get that play to (McLaurin), then we’re out of gas.”

Didn't realize I was in the presence of so many people who are fully capable of coaching at the NFL level. 🙄

So tell me, where was the disdain for the coaching staff the two weeks before the bye? It was crickets around here. Why does everyone only hate coaches when teams lose?

Dan Quinn agrees with me.
But seriously, I think there has been lots of coaching criticism all year but obviously this was going to bring on lots and deservingly so.

Speaking for myself, it's not only the loss, but how they lost. Quite honestly, they were severely outplayed for most of the game. It didn't look like a team ready to play coming out of the bye. Also, how about the O-lineman getting a hand off near the goal line? Was that a good call by the OC? Did you like the approach in the lead up to the Hail Mary? They gave up some easy completions to put the Commanders in position to run the Hail Mary play. Then, you rush three guys and have a spy on the QB from mid-field on the last play of the game? That's a coaching decision. Happy about that? The keystone cop routine by the DBs is probably more on them.

Also, let's see if Tyrique Stevenson is held accountable for his undisciplined antics prior to/during the Hail Mary play. Some punishment would seem warranted, if you are running an operation that holds players accountable.

I've been complaining about Waldron since Week 1

That’s exactly the point, is that you don’t even do that kind of stuff in high school football. Giving the ball to a back up lineman with the game on the line is absolutely bonkers.

You don’t need to be an NFL coach to know that.

Everyone is basing their criticism on 3 plays, at most. If the Hail Mary falls incomplete no one is criticizing anything and you're talking about holding Washington to 12 points. Outside of the botched hand-off to the OL on the goal line they defended the end of the game the same way any team in the league would. The outcome wasn't what you wanted so blame has to be on the coaches, right?

That play ended up being irrelevant since they got the go ahead TD on the next drive.

Two things:
1. The last play most likely would be defended the same by every team minus a small difference. Maybe not have Edwards be a spy but yes there are only a few ways to defend it. Someone got lost during that play and was supposed to be behind with the Wash WR. To me it looks like Byrd got lost with the length of the play. Why not call a TO before to make sure all were on same page? No reason to save them. It is not like Wash was going to run some different play with a TO called.
2. Not every team would have defended the second to last play the same. That is my gripe. I hate that they just gave them 13 yards to make the last play easier. WASH HC said they needed that play.

My biggest issue is that the HC is always talking about protecting the ball and then you give it to a non-ball carrier in the game's biggest moment up to that point. Hey if it is an actual fullback/TE I can go with that but an OL in that situation...come on.

Not saying that. If you are happy with the coaching in that game, you are entitled to your opinion.

Wow! The win probability is one thing. But, to have lost all four?? Ne excuse.

I didn't realize till this morning, Eberflus hasn't won a road game on a Sunday since coming to Chicago!:rolleyes:o_O

I think it's pretty obvious the amount of disdain this board has for the coaching staff.
