Thanks have fun and let me know if you run into any hangups

Play Today! The 22nd Annual EDGYTIM Playoff Bracket Challenge

CS8 Week 9 and playoffs.

Not much to talk about next week. Looks we know I w who's in and who isn't. The games all look like probable blowouts and chances for the playoffs teams to rest their starters and heal some injuries.

As it looks now, the CS8 playoff destinations look like

Chatham, 7-2. 6A possible home game
Jacksonville, 6-3, 5A likely road game
MacArthur, 5-4, 5A road game.
Rochester. 8-1, 4A home game
SHG, 9-0, 3A or 4A, home game

Interviewed after last night's game about his preference, Coach Leonard said he'd prefer 4A for the competition but he also doesn't want to play his son again. He has always said that while others make it a big deal, he didn't like the the "Leonard Bowls"

Next big event, the pairings show on 10/22.

NSC Playoff Outlook

This will be an interesting Round 1 for the NSC as I can see all 4 teams winning their games though only 3 can advance with Stevenson and Warren battling.

Lake Zurich has to be pleased with their 1st round game and overall bracket. Elgin Larkin should be a dress rehearsal for around 2 against a tough Wheaton North. WN has played some solid teams and beat Batavia but I would rather face them in R2 than Prospect or have a rematch with SCN. I like LZ to win their first 2 games. If they can win those they would play their 3rd game against a smaller town school. I won’t pretend to know much of those possible schools but I tend to believe LZ will be able to hang. LZ’s defense is good enough to keep them in every game. LZ’s offense is too vanilla to guarantee a win after the 1st round but I can see them making a run if they can get by Wheaton North in R2.

Libertyville will have Yorkville in Round 1. Knowing that LB was 5-4 and would have to play a 9-0 or 8-1 team, if I could pick which of those teams to play I would pick Yorkville or Collinsville. Considering the ride to Collinsville, Yorkville would have been my preferred opponent. After watching LB on Friday night I’m not sure they have improved over the course of the season as they looked confused and unprepared against Stevenson. The wind played a role but LB didn’t look like they were ready to play. I don’t have a great deal of confidence in LB advancing but I do believe they came away with the best draw possible.

Stevenson and Warren. This matchup will be interesting. Their 1st game was tight for the first half with the score 14-10. Stevenson didn’t back down but Warren pulled away in the 2nd half. That game was Week 4 and neither of these teams are the same. LZ exposed some of Warren’s warts which I’m sure Stevenson noted and will try to exploit. Stevenson hasn’t lost since they played Warren.

Stevenson’s starting defense hasn’t given up a point since playing Warren. The respective strengths of these teams matchup with each other’s strengths. Warren’s strengths are their secondary and power run game. Stevenson’s strengths are their run defense and passing game. Something has to give.

This one will come down to coaching adjustments from Week 4 and individuals. Will Warren rely on Duffie and Reeves to play man coverage while blitzing Stevenson? Will Projansky be able to pick apart the blitzes as he did against Libertyville? Warren’s blitz package will cause far more urgency than LB’s did but Projansky threw underneath to multiple receivers on the blitzes which could cause some problems for Warren. Will Snider be able to exploit man coverage as he did a couple times in Week 4? Will Warren pound Thompson against Stevenson’s DL? Will it work as it did in Week 4? Schultz and Aghakhan are 2 of the best DL in the conference and the entire D is playing with confidence. Will Warren try to have Behrens to pass? That’s not their MO but Behrens is talented.

The winner will likely face Huntley and then, should they get by Huntley, a really tough ballgame against LWE or possibly Neuqua Valley who will be without their injured QB. The playoff math certainly didn’t do Warren (or Stevenson) any favors with this bracket as their won’t be any freebies for the winner of this Round 1 game.

4-4 teams

Most of you have been around for longer than me or are at least more active. How do you think the 4-4 teams pan out. I was looking by division I dont think too well.
here is my predictions
8a (8) 2-6
7a (6) 3-3
6a (3)1-2
5a (11) 6-5
4a (8) 6-2
3a (5) 3-2
2a (2) 2-6
1a (15) 7-8
I am not an expert on any team but just going off the records of who they are playing im interested how much this will change the classes.

with 5 wins
1a 25
2a 28
3a 29
4a 27
5a 25
6a 30
7a 30
8a 28
So that leaves 35 openings for 4-4 teams. I only have 30 winning to get to 5-4. Just trying to see how playoff points will matter. I looks like in my opinion they will matter for the 4-5 teams.

Favorite Football Movies

What are everyone’s favorite football movies?

I ran across a Top 30 list of all time football movies and was surprised that one of my favorites failed to even make the list. So, here are my Top 5 plus the one less heralded film. Interested in how others rate their favorites.

1- Friday Night Lights. Really liked the book and the movie was also great. Thought the cast was perfect and the final game well done.

2- North Dallas Forty. A both funny and somewhat depressing look at a fictional pro team based on the Dallas Cowboys over one week of their season. Nick Nolte was outstanding.

3- Rudy. The Rocky of football. Man does Sean Astin take some serious punishment in the practice scenes. Co-stars a very young Vince Vaughn.

4- Brian‘s Song. Dare you to not tear up when Billy Dee Williams gives his speech about Brian Piccolo.

5- We Are Marshall. Based on the loss of nearly the entire Marshall team and staff in an airplane crash and then the attempt to rebuild the program using mostly freshman players at a time when they were typically ineligible. Sad but also uplifting.

My unheralded favorite is the Best of Times (1986) starring Kurt Russell and Robin Williams. This was neither a box office nor a critical success. Williams has been haunted for 15 years by dropping a pass in the “big game” against their arch rival. Russell was the star QB who was injured in the same game. Neither left town after high school. Russell is remembered as the greatest QB in their town’s history. Williams is the town goat who can’t let it go and decides to replay the game which ended in a scoreless tie. No one else is interested at first, and Williams uses some underhanded tactics to get the rematch ok’d by Russell and the town. Really enjoyed the game against the bigger and more impressive opponent. Love the line by Russell when discussing with Williams the plan: “You can’t remake history without an Offensive Line.”

week 9 clown cup standings

@MS4EVER starting to expand that lead. Can anyone catch him?

Maybe someone will add a Maine South game or two in the playoffs to try to throw him off. hmmmm

Week 10 games will be posted in separate thread by tomorrow night.

Feeto's Friday Upset Special.......

It's the final week of the regular season, and potential upsets are out there. For this week's game we'll travel out to beautiful Elmhurst, home of the much improved Dukes of York. No, I'm not picking OPRF (although I do like them this week). This week's upset is.... The unranked Knights of Immaculate Conception Catholic Prep over the undefeated and top 25 ranked Spartans of Wheaton St. Francis. As Edgy said, "these 2 teams just don't like each other". ICCP has been scoring over 40 points per game, and their only loss was a 1 point thriller vs JCA. St. Francis is obviously a really good team, but their strength of schedule could be the difference tonight. I see a shootout in Elmhurst. Final score.....ICCP 42 - St. Francis 35. That's this week's upset. What are your thoughts and who is your upset.
