Best case scenario for your team

This is my dream playoffs for MS.

Round 1 - Find a way to beat The Brook and stay healthy. (Meeting Bones a plus)

Round 2- Pretty please don’t make us go to Belleville!! I’ll take the undefeated team any day.

Quarters- Beating GBS once a year is great. Twice in a year amazing!! Or the Hitters @ beautiful Duchon Field

Semifinals- After Beast dispatches Warren, they are so beat up that we are on equal ground with them.

Championship- Hollywood of course!!

The chances of this happening are probably not great, but I can dream.
Anyone else have a dream?

What did we learn week 9!?!?!

Well that escalated quickly, I mean it really got out of control……How did we blow through 9 weeks like that.

1 - That we thought we knew how the NLCC would end up and we are wrong.
2 - That Maine S and LWE win the “we’re gonna try and screw up everyone’s bracket award- just kidding.”
3 - That Morris, well something happened there.
4 - That the hook and ladder is one of the great plays in football - Iggy thinks so, Fenwick not so much.
5 - That I hadn’t seen a Friday week 9 like this in a long time and it was glorious
6 - That Montini needs to go back to the Coach A days.
7 - That Mt Carmel wins the battle and likely won’t be tested again.
8 - That something just didn’t feel right about 75F football this past weekend.
9 - That all but one 2021 champion didn’t make the 2022 field and only 2 runners up missed.
10 - That there are no guarantees once the playoffs start.

Best of luck to the 256 teams that get to keep playing.

The 4A Map Just Got REAL Interesting

I just plotted the 4A qualifiers (to date) on the map. The 16 in the Southern bracket would include Morris, Coal City, SHG, and Rochester. Geneseo just misses the south by about a mile. I mean, you'd have to pull out the longitude and latitude map lines because it's that close. The South could be LOADED. Just a novice's look at the current map. But please check it for your self.

CPL Pick 'Em: Prep Bowl Week 10

With the state playoffs happening for 6 of the top 8 in the city we're left with a single matchup...

Taft Eagles vs Brooks College Prep Eagles Thursday 6pm at Lane
Well isn't this matchup for the birds. The Eagles of the Northwest Side take on the Eagles of the Far South Side. Gonna go out on a limb here and say the Eagles take the game but the Redcoats secure the true victory, small stage practice before the big state games this weekend.

What's the lineup look like for the CCL? Maybe we can break down those matchups too.

As our weekly author tours the Hill Country and samples its many varietals, we re-focus our energies to make-or-break week in the Greatest Football Conference in America.

Biggest surprises & disappointments

Not withstanding a big playoff run who are the biggest surprises & disappointments? Surprises? Argo & Chicago Christian were picked to be bottom of the barrell yet they are in the playoffs!!! Argo lower level teams look pretty good too.Disappointments? Kankakee underperformed so far especially getting that Mac transfer but hard to really pick.Any team who didn’t put a product on the field I’d have to say was a disappointment. Not the kids on those teams though who wanted to play.

8A predictions

I pray for Mike O’Brien’s prediction to come true and setup a Warren/LWE matchup in the quarters. The thread for that game would be so entertaining.
O’Brien’s Picks

LWE’s close call last night will refocus them. Seems inevitable that LWE and LA matchup in Champaign. I see the Illini’s magical season rubbing off on Coach H and the Ramblers lifting the trophy on Memorial Stadium as the Orange and Blue return to town with the Land of Lincoln Trophy.

Sterling's last 12 playoff opponents

Just an observation regarding Sterling's playoff opponents since 2017:

2017: St. Viator, Kaneland, Marian Central Catholic, Chicago Phillips
2018: Chicago Phoenix, Chicago Brooks, Rockford Boylan, Montini
2019: Chicago Heights Marian, St. Rita
2021: St. Patrick
2022: St. Viator

They haven't matched up with many schools (just one - Kaneland) that are similar in make up (meaning "downstate" public schools).
