Sangamo Conference Woes

All.... Actually Mt. Zion many years ago was approached by the conference about joining. A receptive oral reply by the then coach was given. Nothing in writing.... Said Coach not because of that conversation was gone the next season and the new one wanted no part of joining. It made the local SJR and a bit of a stir. I will try to run down the article. Ratsy

Program question?

The questions I would ask:
--Has the program ever been successful?
--Is the school known for a sport other than football?
--How many athletes are in the building but not playing football?
--What kind of junior feeder program exists?
--How long has the current coach and his staff been at the school?
--Has the current coach and his staff expressed a long-term plan or are they just getting by from year to year?
--What is the level of enthusiasm in the community for the program?

Yah I get it most games start tomorrow. But for me and my crew we kick tonight.

This is year 52 for me in terms of my involvement with HS football. I’ll debate anyone anywhere but this is the best time of year by far because it’s the best sport by far.

We still get amazed by 15, 16, 17 year old kids that do amazing things. And we forget, they’re kids.

Enjoy every minute of it. And if your son or daughter is playing enjoy it because it goes by way too fast.

Best of luck to all 518 teams in Illinois that are competing in this great game. I love it so and can’t wait for the next year of memories.

No TV Highlights Show This Fall?

Yeah it's a bummer for sure......I'm doing stories this season for the Daily Herald (and also it seems Shaw papers) and Marquee is great but you nailed it the Cubs are the top priority and by the time they are done in a normal no playoff season it's already late September early October. Those highlight shows are incredibly demanding (profitable? yes) and require a ton of resources.

I'm planning to continue to contribute to IHSA TV when needed etc.

No stadium screams Thursday football like Eckersall. No lights means 4pm kickoffs in August. Late busses due to rush hour traffic. 6 people in the stands. Overzealous security personnel because they outnumber fans 5 to 1. It's football season baby!

State Journal Register Staff Predictions (Minus the Decatur teams, QND, and U High)
If you can make a call on Nokomis vs Arcola, neither of which are anywhere close to Springfield, how hard is it to make picks for all the CS8 games?

Perhaps this will come up today at practice as a little extra motivation for the Rockets.
