CPL IS BACK BABY!!

It's opening week! That means one thing... HOT THURSDAY CPL ACTION!! And I am here for it. Sure, other teams play this Thursday, but we all know Thursday is for The Chicago Public League! On to the picks!

Catalyst Maria vs. Phoenix Academy
@Schwab54 has said for years that the Phoenix is always rising. I see no reason to disagree in this one. In all honesty, I'm looking forward to hitting the Steak n Egger across the street from Rockne Stadium before this one. Rockne dogs < Gately dogs, and you can take that to the bank.
Take Rising from the Ashes!

Chicago Vocational vs. Back of the Yards

Popped into a local adult beverage establishment the other day and got to talking to the guy behind the counter about the upcoming high school football season. Dude walks up behind us and starts talking Back of the Yards football. No kidding. Says he was working in the area and saw a bunch of summer practices. Said they look good. Of course I said, BOTY is always looking good. He, in turn, thought I was trying to change the subject and immediately started talking about another kind of adult establishment. Love the Big BOTY Energy!
Take Baby got BACK OF THE YARDS!

Kennedy vs Clemente

For the new people around here, Kennedy's mascot is the Crusaders. In short, that is silly. As a group we have decided that since the school is named after JFK the mascot should combine both the Cuban Missle Crisis and the Bay of Pigs... So Missle Pigs. I'm not into politics, but JFK's nephew has been in the news a lot recently. Seems reasonable to pick the Pigs.
Missle Pigs!

Whitney Young vs Corliss

No secret I like Corlissssssssssss. Also no secret that Whitney Young sounds like the girl in charge of a sorority rush at Alabama. Alabama could beat Corliss in football. Whitney Young can not.
SSSSSSSSSSSSnakes!

DRW vs Collins

Anyone else think that this sounds like a court case? The 42nd district court of appeals will be hearing DRW vs Collins in its next session. Just rolls off the tongue.
Judgement for Collins!
I love the Missile Pigs idea! The logos would be AWESOME!!!

Sangamo Conference Woes

Well it definitely shows that Willyville isn’t ducking competition

Well it definitely shows that Willyville isn’t ducking competition.
It only took 21 years for them to purposely schedule a team of value outside of their conference or playoffs. But yes, this should make them better. SHG scheduled ESL in the preseason, CBC and Mascoutah in the regular season. Those are tremendous upgrades over the Lincoln, MacArthur, and Eisenhowers they previously had to play in their conference. Meanwhile Rochester gets "dogged" on for showing up to play LA in 2021. And they follow up by scheduling Belleville West (7A) in the preseason, and Cardinal Ritter (2022 and 2023 Missouri State champs- equivalent to Illinois 5A classification) and Simeon (6A/7A) in the regular season.

I predict Byron by 21. Massey says 27, however it's at Williamsville.

ESL football classic 2024

So as it stands now, East opens with Maine South and closes with Naperville Central. The middle 7 games feature a bye, 4 teams that went .500 or less (2 @ 5-5, 2 @ 3-6) then 2 with 4 losses. Ya gotta play what you are dealt, though, and it IS a new season for all.

This might be the states most heavily recruited class of QB’s that I can ever recall.

Edgy… a comprehensive look at this years class would be a fantastic read

Give me your team’s Star, Stud, Sleeper and Soon

There's been a few doubters, maybe two, who argue that MC has lost a lot of seniors. Which is true, but not not decisive.
MC Jack Elliot is heading into this season without a single offensive starter that he either threw or handed the ball to

Sometimes it takes a few games to truly gell… I can’t wait to watch them this Thursday

ICCP needs week 1 game now

All... St. Mary's South Side Catholic High School in St. Louis Mo. The MSHSSA open dates list is showing they are looking for an 8-30-2024 game home or away. Maxpreps has them playing Soldan on 8-31 but I checked St. Mary's site and their schedule has no games listed for that week. Ratsy
St, Mary's was to be closed ... I guess it did not.

ICCP needs week 1 game now

ICP will play St Marys week 1 according to Max Preps
All.... That had to just happen. When I posted St. Mary's had an opening on Saturday Preps was showing the old schedule for the schools. Quite a long road trip about four and a half hours. With a Friday 6PM start I'd give the Knights the day off and hit the road fairly early in the morning.

The Dragons play a pretty aggressive schedule finishing off the regular season against state power CBC. Ratsy

GAME: Flyer Grounds Rambler 34-7

There is an edge of the bar already reserved for him - he will be cornered in by three sides with me and and two life-long friends.

Pros: Extremely smart and has a good career. Has no school debt, which was a "requirement" I placed on the girls. So this was explicitly pointed out to me. He makes my Baby Girl happy. Twin B could likely kick his ass.

Cons: Total nerd who is into building robots - a recent one for Nasa. I asked for his favorite steak to get at the butcher shop ... he prefers chicken. Twin B could likely kick his ass.
Pull him to the side, put your arm over his shoulder, and ask him how he feels about option offenses. All you need to know will be in his answer.

JCA Hilltoppers Predictions

Agree that 5 or 6 is most likely win total. I also see the possibility for as little as 3 if things go South. It’s a tough schedule for a 5A team.

I’ll be interested to see if they go strictly as a power running team behind that big and experienced O-line or mix in the pass more than expected. QB Simulick is a nice athlete. I see him running more than last year’s QB. He can throw but he’s not the tallest QB. They will need to give him a clean pocket or roll him out to give him passing lanes at his size. Who will emerge as receiving threats?

The defense got lit up in the 2nd half of the championship game. Will the pass defense be improved. It’s always a big question at JCA. The D has a fair amount back and has a chance to be good. Replacing Dillon Johnson is the biggest challenge.

Looking forward to see how it all plays out.
I see it resembling the 2007 season with a few of Jaws wide-sets to get the plays into open spaces sprinkled into the mix.
Moving the chains and chewing up the clock with big backs behind a big line with some occasional speed.
As cited above, the first two weeks will set the tone for the year.

Boyfriend? Hopefully you're a good dad and you put him through the wringer and make him sweat.

Welcome back Ghost. Reading this thread is like a cool breeze on a hot, hot summer day. Like today and tomorrow

GAME: Flyer Grounds Rambler 34-7

Will RamberStream happen again this year? I remember they have a good rep for putting on a fine production.

Will it be available for immediate post-mortem streaming? My girls are in town and we will be busy. (Meeting Twin B's boyfriend this weekend ... an EE and he looks like he has no one in his gene pool who has ever played organized sports.)
Boyfriend? Hopefully you're a good dad and you put him through the wringer and make him sweat.

We made it

Morris could end up in any of these brackets come playoff time: 4A North, 4A South, 5A North, or 5A South (though 5A North seems to be the least likely). Should make the Saturday playoff pairings announcement pretty exciting.
That's why I love pairings night. With the IHSA system most teams know what class they're in and even their seeding, but with Morris being on the edge of class and direction it's always a mystery.

We made it

We're here, it's week 1. The season is upon us! All the fun, but stupid, offseason arguments are over. Does your team have a chance? What is their ceiling? If they're not a title contender what win makes your season?

Morris will be Morris and should be 7-0 heading into Sycamore and then I know nothing about the team from Grand Rapids. After that it depends if they go 4A or 5A. 5A they make the quarters or semis. They go 4A, is it another clash with Rochester?
