Program question?

The questions I would ask:
--Has the program ever been successful?
--Is the school known for a sport other than football?
--How many athletes are in the building but not playing football?
--What kind of junior feeder program exists?
--How long has the current coach and his staff been at the school?
--Has the current coach and his staff expressed a long-term plan or are they just getting by from year to year?
--What is the level of enthusiasm in the community for the program?

Happy New Year

Yah I get it most games start tomorrow. But for me and my crew we kick tonight.

This is year 52 for me in terms of my involvement with HS football. I’ll debate anyone anywhere but this is the best time of year by far because it’s the best sport by far.

We still get amazed by 15, 16, 17 year old kids that do amazing things. And we forget, they’re kids.

Enjoy every minute of it. And if your son or daughter is playing enjoy it because it goes by way too fast.

Best of luck to all 518 teams in Illinois that are competing in this great game. I love it so and can’t wait for the next year of memories.

No TV Highlights Show This Fall?

When Edgy joined Marquee Sports Network a couple of years ago, I thought the network was going to start covering high school sports a little more often. Obviously the Cubs are king, but I would have thought Marquee would take the place of the late, great High School Lites that aired on soon-to-be defunct NBC Sports Chicago. But nothing has come of Edgy joining the network (not sure if they’re still working with him TBH), and it looks like there will be no high school highlights show on TV again in the Chicago area this fall. And frankly I am not sure if there will ever be one again. Too bad.
Yeah it's a bummer for sure......I'm doing stories this season for the Daily Herald (and also it seems Shaw papers) and Marquee is great but you nailed it the Cubs are the top priority and by the time they are done in a normal no playoff season it's already late September early October. Those highlight shows are incredibly demanding (profitable? yes) and require a ton of resources.

I'm planning to continue to contribute to IHSA TV when needed etc.

CPL IS BACK BABY!!

It's Time for HOT Thursday CPL Action! No time like the present to get in a BONUS Thursday Pick!

Harlan vs Hansberry @ Eckersall

No stadium screams Thursday football like Eckersall. No lights means 4pm kickoffs in August. Late busses due to rush hour traffic. 6 people in the stands. Overzealous security personnel because they outnumber fans 5 to 1. It's football season baby!
Give me the Berries!

CS8 Predictions-Week 1

State Journal Register Staff Predictions (Minus the Decatur teams, QND, and U High)
If you can make a call on Nokomis vs Arcola, neither of which are anywhere close to Springfield, how hard is it to make picks for all the CS8 games?

Perhaps this will come up today at practice as a little extra motivation for the Rockets.

CBC 42 SHG 21
Edwardsville 49 Chatham 35
Simeon 30 Rochester 28
Springfield 42 Champaign Central 35
Lincoln 36 Lanphier 13
Southeast 27 East Peoria 20
Jacksonville 56 Pittsfield 13

Sangamo Conference Woes

Sure thing, bud. All those Springfield addresses haven't been beneficial to Rochester (a town of 3,800 people) at all... You're not the same as the rest of 4A. QND's entire 30 mile radius, some 6 or 7 counties, doesn't add up to the population of the city that's helped you be successful.
Let's see, let's see.... Rochester school district is 64.9 square miles with a population from which to draw equaling 10,842

Pi R squared is the equation for the area of a circle. That would be 2,827 square miles. Quincy's population is 38,600. However, within the 30 mile radius you claimed, the population available is 114,986. This means your inferiority complex on turf has 10x the population from which to draw and only one major school with which to compete (Quincy HS). And yet there's SHG with 3 Springfield schools of 5A or bigger, Glenwood, and Rochester with which to compete to attract students. Oh, and your tuition is $6,385 whereas SHG is $9,650 (51% higher). Any other excuses? Or is this the moment you put it to rest and accept the fact you're fortunate the CS8 allowed you in. Mt. Zion would have been a better addition to the strength of the conference not to mention a more appropriate addition given its proximity to the Decatur schools currently members. Your program is literally lessening the strength of the CS8. Go play in the Sangamo conference where you'll add something. I hear Riverton has some games you could fill in their place.

MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week I

Roman numerals were great when you were counting how many legions you had, or how many barrels of wine. But the system could be inefficient. The Hindus contributed our decimal-based number system, and the Arabs gave us algebra. Besides his famous quatrains, the Persian poet and mathematician Omar Khayyam wrote a treatise on what is now called Pascal's Triangle, a stunning geometric figure derived from the binomial theorem.

The sphere upon which mortals come and go,
Has no end nor beginning that we know;
And none there is to tell us in plain truth:
Whence do we come and whither do we go.
