No way in hell that Rice is a 21 point favorite. I think they'll win the game ( if Coach Badke can teach his defense that they can't cross the line till the ball moves), but not by 21. Are we forgetting about that group of freshman from Bartlett? They must be Sr's by now.

The merger has been an absolute success! Great to see so many teams earn their way to the playoffs!

Prep Bowl:
Leo at De La Salle:
Won't be close. DLS 48 Leo 0

Carmel at Saint Patrick:
Great wins for both squads last week and spoiling 2 playoff bids in the process. I think Carmel gets "revenge" for their choke job they had against the Shamrocks from a few weeks back. CoM 21 Pat's 19

5A:

#16 Marian Catholic (5-4) at #1 Sterling (9-0):
Marian has lots to be proud of! They are proof that the conference should be set up in tiers so teams can have success, get a few better players, and eventually work their way up. With that, their IHSA playoff stay will be quite short. Sterling 70 Marian of the Heights 7

#9 Glenbard Sout) (6-3) at #8 St. Rita (6-3):
This Rita team has all the feels of Joliet Catholic of last year. Rita 52 Glenbard South 7

#13 Saint. Laurence (5-4) at #4 Hillcrest (8-1):
I think St. Laurence gives Hillcrest a serious scare, but the Country Clubbers of the Hills pull it out late. Hillcrest 34 StL 28

#12 Fenwick (5-4) vs. #5 Payton (8-0): Fenwick advances easily...whether or not they play

#10 Marmion Academy (6-3) vs. #7 Amundsen (7-1): Marmion breaks no sweat...whether or not they play

#11 Elmwood Park (6-3) at #6 Montini (7-2):
Montini absolutely pulverizes the Tigers of Little Italy. Montini 63 Elmwood Park 0

#9 Joliet Catholic (6-3) at #8 Morton (7-2): It's November and JC becomes a monster (for a week at least) JCA 49 Morton 21

6A:

#13 Saint. Ignatius (5-4) at #4 Cary-Grove (7-2):
Great win by Ignatius to get into the playoffs! They will play CG tough, but the Grove gets the W. Cary-Grove 34 Iggy's 20

#11 Providence Catholic (6-3) at #6 Normal (Community West) (7-2):
I don't know much about Normal, but them beating Provi or them not belonging on the same field as Provi wouldn't shock me. Staying with my faith. Providence 30 Normal 21

7A:

#32 Eisenhower (5-4) at #1 Mount. Carmel (9-0):
Quick work for the Caravan. MC 49 The 34th President 0

#17 Benet Academy (6-3) at #16 Glenbard North (6-3):
I think Benet's 3 game skid has put a damper on the 6-0 start. Going with North. Glenbard North 31 Benet 23

#31 Libertyville (5-4) at #2 Nazareth Academy (9-0):
Roadrunners run away from the Tigers. Naz 42 Libertyville 14

8A:

#24 Brother Rice (5-4) at #9 Bartlett (8-1):
Brother Rice is a very sexy pick to go deep in that weirdly soft bracket they are in. Rice 41 Bartlett 7

#18 Loyola Academy (6-3) at #15 Maine South (7-2):
What an awful draw for both teams. I'm taking the Hawks only because they are at home. Maine South 24 Loyola 21

#23 Marist (5-4) at #10 Glenbard East (8-1):
Marist is another team that has a chance to play a few weekends. They don't struggle at all against Glenbard East. Marist 45 Glenbard East 13

#19 Barrington (6-3) at #14 Notre Dame (7-2): Ohh boy...this is a tough one to pick. Regardless, the winner will probably be executed the following week by a Lincoln Way East squad on a revenge tour, but for now, I am going to take the home Dons in a very good game. ND 17 Barrington 14

Igor - aside from predicting that St L will cover spread - how do they match up against Hillcrest straight up -what are your thoughts? Anyone else with insight on Hillcrest? I know nothing about them/never seen them play - I know they played BR tough and have quality wins v Richards & Lemont.
In 2016, St L ran through the toughest 5/6A level teams in the southland in Richards, Crete-Monee and Lemont (in that order) - can they do they same in 2019 v Hillcrest??

I really like our chances here. We can control the ball on anyone. Long, time-consuming drives have been common. Our D line has improved mightily since JCA. If someone is laying 2-to-1 against StL straight up, I'd take that until my head caved in.

I like Marist, BR and SR to win but not by 32, 21, and 48 points, especially Marist, they just don’t have the offense firepower to win by 32 on the road over a 8-1 team. I like them by 17 maybe, Rice by 10 and Rita by 30.

Athletically Hillcrest is the better team. Irving is one of the best in the State, they haven’t seen a RB like him all year, maybe Shaw from BR. He’s in Elite status. QB also very mobile. They can score in 10 seconds. Where Laurence has the advantage is they are going to be more disciplined and prepared for the elements of the game. It’s going to be freezing. Hillcrest has a lot of players playing both ways, including Irving. Hard to breath when it’s cold, hands will be on the hips. If Laurence can keep it close, I think they can win it in the fourth quarter. They can’t get into more then a 2 score hole though.

Irving is a combo of Shaw and the RB from Laurence.

Elite Speed and YAC.

I agree, it will come down to how all those 2way players hold up for Hillcrest in the 4th quarter.

Hillcrest 24-20 in a great game that should of been a 5a quarterfinal matchup.

This is a great matchup. Laurence is peaking at the right time. They can pound Thomas at the Hillcrest defense, then take shots downfield. JCA wore down Hillcrest last year in the semis. I think the Vikings can do the same. I like Laurence in a close one with each team hitting their share of big plays.

I like iggys chances. CG hasn’t played to potential. Both are flexbone teams so 4 or 5 possessions each team. Iggy has to play perfect and they’ll be riding a 3 game win streak into CG. I say 17-14 iggy

Irving actually took the entrance exam and spent a couple summer school days at SR before transferring to Morgan Park then Hillcrest. Imagine if he'd stayed at Rita and was in the backfield with Kaleb Brown... About 25 D1 offers between the two already with a year still for Irving and two for Brown

I thought he was at Rice, not Rita for a few days in the summer prior to his freshmen year.

He was at Rita...guessing if he stayed Brown might have looked elsewhere in the one running back set.
