Richmond Burton - 32 game win streak

Just wanted to give some love to Coach Noll and Richmond Burton with the longest win streak in the state at 32 games. As heavy underdogs this week in the semi's, do they have any chance to shock JCA?
Absolutely. Those guys know how to win and can definitely end the JC hype train. This has been a showdown we’ve all been looking forward to and both teams took care of business to get there.

I will say though that some of their results do give me pause as to thinking this will be the team to slow down JC.

I know you can’t really compare scores and teams change and progress as the year goes on. But JC absolutely steamrolled Simeon in a mismatch. Simeon and Phillips played to a relatively break even 14-12 game. Then it appears that RB narrowly escaped Phillips. I did thoroughly expect RB to beat Phillips by 4 scores, not one point.

but RB does have the program, coaching, and kids to beat JC, Rochester, or SHG. Will be a good game to see.

interesting that the Leonard’s called for a Friday game. Wonder if RB and JC recognize that as a power move to advantage them in Dekalb and reciprocate?

When I said you have to play the game it’s because of match ups. Every team is different, some teams match up better than others. Take the LA/LWE game. East had no business being in this game when you look at them on paper and the W/L record. LA beat Rita, Rice & MC. They play East and win 3-0. This begs the question how good is LA? How good are the 3 teams who lost to them? I would of never thought East would lose LA 3-0 in the quarter finals but it’s East and your going to get their best. Richmond has a chance because who knows maybe they match up better than those other teams you mentioned. I said it early on their is a lot of parity this year with really no great teams just a lot of very good teams.
Good luck on the rest of your season!

No doubt. There is no doubt RB can win next weekend.

First of all, congrats to R-B on continuing the streak. I have been impressed by Coach Noll ever since his days at McHenry when his team shut out LA in round one of the playoffs back in the mid 90s. I was even more impressed when he left McHenry and resurrected a GBS program that was on life support. I have friends whose kid played at GBS for Coach Noll and they sing his praises.

Secondly, I am hoping for a close and well played game between R-B and JCA if for no other reason than it will shut up those people who are harping on JCA that they don't belong in 4A.

Keep in mind LA had Maldonado for BR and Rita (without Kaleb Brown) and didn't have him for the Win at MC. Like Rita just a completely different team with their RB.

Congrats on the streak RB but its over next week.

JCA is just way too good.

RB is a nice story. Mike Noll has really done a great job building a winner up there. Props to our McHenry County brothers and good luck next weekend!
No doubt that Coach Noll has done a great job, but it is not like the coffers were bare when it got there. RB has been a quality program for a number of years.

Yes, your well coached squad that has outscored playoff opponents 141-32 certainly has a shot.

Some other teams that have unexpectedly knocked the Hilltoppers out of the playoffs through the years are Bartonville Limestone, Rich East, Marmion, Mascoutah and Peoria Richwoods (twice).

Good luck to the RB team in what should be a very good game.

R-B is an oddity They handled Sycamore and then won a squeaker over Johnsburg. Sycamore is a very good team Johnsburg not so much. No doubt they want to come out and punch JCA.

I wish them luck with that strategy. JCA will be more than happy to stand toe to toe and slug it out. The JCA offense especially is a physical load on all levels.

I can’t see how R-B wins unless something crazy like JCA is turning it over a bunch.
R-B is very good, but how many of their kids would crack JCAs starting lineup?

I believe this will be JCAs first game on grass this season. Will it make a difference?
One game in the spring at Marmion was the last grass game.

They have practiced all year on a grass field. They will be fine.

Seems odd that a question such as this would be asked about a program that has won 32 games in a row. Of course they have a chance.

Winning 32 games in a row at any level is a tremendous accomplishment, without question. With that being said, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that R-B has not seen the size, speed, and athleticism that they will encounter this Saturday. They may keep it close for awhile, but eventually JCA runs away from them in convincing fashion.

RB just played Phillips last week (on turf too). I'm guessing you haven't seen that team play this season. They are HUGE, fast and really athletic. I'm not saying they are anywhere near as good as JCA, but I don't think the size and speed will be a shock to RB coming off last weeks game. That doesn't mean JCA won't still pull away like you said, but I think RB will give them all they can handle.

I hate to play the common opponent game, but you do realize Phillips beat Simeon 14-12, and JCA demolished Simeon by 50, right?

Playing Phillips is nothing like playing JCA. You cannot even compare the two.

Couple things there. Common opponents doesn't work for me. Do you think Simeon was more excited to play Phillips or JCA? Also stylistically, certain teams match up better with others. There is also injuries, playing surface, scheme, etc.. I'm not taking anything away from JCA, I think they are the 2nd or 3rd best team in the state regardless of class. They have certainly proved that all season. All I said was RB is coming off a game that they played against a team that was much bigger and faster than them so I don't think the size and speed of JCA will shock them. I guess we will find out on Saturday. If they overwhelm RB from the first whistle then I'll gladly say I was wrong.

Great points….they still don’t equate to a 50 point difference.

Seeing how it was the opening game of the year, I would hope that Simeon was pretty excited to play JCA. You are correct that certain teams match up better than others. I just dont think this is a good match up for RB. But that's why they play the games. I am looking forward to a fun day up north. I always enjoy traveling to new places and towns to watch high school football games. I already have my eye on a couple of pubs for pre-gaming!

I have always thought CPS schools are at major disadvantage in week 1 since the school year start date and the fact that most schools they play have robust summer programs that give them an edge. I know Covid threw a kink into summer programs for everyone but I think it hurt CPS even more this year since they were never in the classroom last year and their number were down more than most. If those team played later in the year would JCA would have beaten them but it most likely would have been closer. I don't think RB has enough to beat JCA but I do like the style of defense they play and it may give JCA some fits before they wear them done in the second half.

The BratHaus in Richmond!

That's a solid choice, me personally I would drive the extra 20 minutes to Popeyes on Lake Geneva but you really can't go wrong with either.
I would have agreed until this past summer. Covid apparently hit them pretty hard. Was a VERY disappointing visit. One page menu, none of my group of 4 was happy with the meal. Same up charged tourist prices. The Boat House was much better.

Which pubs?

What style? 3 man front?

1. Mike Noll might be the best coach in the state that no one talks about. 32 years coaching 267-73. Playoffs 29 of 31 years.
2. Went to the BratHaus two weekends ago for the first time and it is a great spot.
3. If you are taking Route 12 up Morettis in Fox Lake would also be a great location to stop.

4. Should be a fun atmosphere on Saturday wish I could make it. I wonder how tall the grass will be.

Yes most high schools run a 4 or 5 man front so you don’t often see a 3 man front. The conventional wisdom is you run right at it but I’m sure RB will move LBs around and run blitz a lot so it will probably take JCA a few series to adjust. Every time we saw a 3 man front we thought this would be easy but it never was since the defense can change looks often.
