Impact Player for Sterling
It's generally a good sign when your program in many ways struggled at times in 2024 yet somehow found it's way to a 5-4 record and a Class 5A state playoff at large bid. Sure, Sterling took it's lumps in 2024 including an 0-2 non conference start followed with some ugly blowout losses, yet the Golden Warriors just always find a way back to success. Sterling in 2024 was incredibly young in several spots, and in many ways this will be a still young starting lineup however with more varsity experience for 2025.
The Golden Warriors have some very intriguing young names here for 2025 led by two big sized offensive linemen in junior to be OT AJ Coleman along with sophomore to be OL Luke Jackson. Both Sterling linemen are drawing recruiting attention this spring and summer.
Looking for a sleeper name to watch for Sterling? Keep an eye on two key two way starters and impact names in junior to be RB/DB Wyatt Cassens along with sophomore RB/LB Cobey Shipma who as mentioned will have more varsity experience heading into the 2025 season.
EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2025 Sterling Golden Warriors
Sterling as mentioned hasn't been it's usual self over the last two seasons, yet the program under veteran head coach Jonathan Schlemmer continues to find a way year in and year out. It's simple in my mind...some years you have more talent than others and I get the feeling that the Golden Warriors hit a rough patch and have been developing a younger roster. It happens to the best of programs and hopefully the young Golden Warriors can start to turn the corner in 2025.
The biggest question facing Sterling this summer?
Can the Golden Warriors youth movement benefit with what looks to be a seasonal adjustment at the top of the Western Big 6 in 2025? Quincy over the past few seasons has been pretty dominant in the Western Big 6 but the Blue Devils also will experience some serious, serious graduation losses. Look for Moline to potentially be conference title worthy along with Sterling....and even with the grad losses I look for Quincy to remain competitive. Also who takes over at quarterback for Sterling? In general the WB6 to me looks pretty wide open kids.
