Quincy 49 Chatham 42, Final

Upset alert. Chatham had the ball first and scored, but Quincy has scored all three possessions. Chatham can’t afford to fall any farther behind.

Chatham scores again to get to within 21-13, but Quincy is driving again.

This has become a shootout. Quincy up 28-19 and driving again midway through the 2nd. Chatham can’t stop the pass.

Quincy ahead 35-19 at half and will get the second half kickoff. Their Soph QB has already thrown for 350 yards.

Quincy marched right down the field and scored to go ahead 42-19, early 3rd. Chatham has to score here and then get a stop or it’s going to get out of hand.

Chatham offense responds and it is now 42-27. Defense has to get a stop.

Chatham recovers an onside kick. Has a short drive which results in another score and another 2 point conversion. 42-35, late 3rd quarter.

Quincy regains a 2-score lead and leads 49-35, late 3rd. Their QB with almost 400 yards.

Chatham went to the well once too much and tried the onside ko which was recovered by Q at C 44

Chatham self destructs after getting to Quincy’s 1-yard line with a holding penalty and two bad snaps. They were eventually forced to punt. Still 49-35, early 4th.

Chatham forces a fumble and then scores on a 4th and goal from the 16 to get within 49-42. Less than 3 minutes remaining. Another onside kick coming?

Quincy recovers the onside kick and is able to run out the clock.

I thought as Chatham was making its run in the 2nd half that it's depth would be a factor but could not get a needed stop.

I believe I heard that Q punted late in first half, had a fumble, lost a possession on an OS kickoff and then ran out the clock. Otherwise the other possessions resulted in scores.

Chatham Glenwood was overrated this year. The scoreboard against Rochester wasn't indicative of how weak the Titans were this year. Then they got DESTROYED by SHG. 6A school getting their lunches eaten by two 4A schools was a precursor to how this Quincy game would go.

When I was in Moline a few weeks ago a lot of the fans talked about how Quincy was going to be a really strong team in 2023.

Quincy took Sterling into overtime in the regular season , I was impressed with their hard to defend offense. Sterling had trouble defending the pass too but eventually won. I said earlier in one of these threads Quincy who was 6-3 in our conference could make a run if they had better defense.

Scoring 42 at home usually should be enough to win. Quincy looked much bigger on the highlights and is starting at least 3 Sophomores on offense, including the QB.
