Lovie Shack makes too much $$$$ to let go! Illinois still owes Mike White till 2021. At 70 years old I could start at OLB....and I never played organized football! If I played....they would have to make tripping legal!

That would be on the previous AD, Mike Thomas, the guy that no coach that was worth anything would work for. Babers had already signed with Syracuse when Whitman was hired as AD.

101 players....only 43 from our state, at what should be our premier school in terms of recruiting numbers?
I could accept the results if 70-80 were in state kids. At least the effort to keep kids home were there, and may be it were a talent issue.
Are we not recognizing the talent soon enough?
Or not really showing these kids we desperately need them?
Watching Illinois kids making impacts at any other BIG 10 school outside of N.U./U of I, hurts.
Hope it gets changed around.

The game on Saturday will highlight all the misses on instate recruiting.

The funny this with ND is a few years they concentrated on Cali, Tex and FL for recruiting and realized it is better to get the best local guys and try to cherry pick players from those states. Illinois is making the same mistake ND made buy neglecting the in state talent for far off kids.
Riley Lees is the main punt return guy and is getting some playing time at receiver and a few plays in the Wildcat.
He is contributing nicely.
Name a coach who would actually go to ILL? They need some stability in order to ever get it turned around
The Lovie hire was the new AD's big splash (belly flop?) in the D1 ranks since coming from much smaller DIII schools

Good point,but not only that,they are going over left- over recruits that were passed up by all of the big name southern schools.
The WR Coach and Lovie never came to see my son Micah Jones who was the #2 offensive player (behind Luke Ford) in illinois for the 2018 class. But Micah was Northwestern very first recruit because they said they wanted to start thier 2018 class with an Illinois kid. Micah opted for Notre Dame (2:15 min drive). It's so sad ! But they went and recruited a 3 Star kid from Florida that is ready to leave. Good luck illini fans !
I read an article I believe in the USA today or some ESPN article that said if Illinois were to fire Lovie they'd owe him an obscene amount of money. They listed his contract and a few other coaches as the worst in college football. That being said, I think we are stuck with Lovie for at least 2019.
I completely agree that he does not recruit Illinois at all. Minnesota and Western Michigan get more recruits from Illinois than Lovie does and both of those programs would kick our a$$ and have head coaches from Illinois.
On another note, the Illinois AD had to hire a new womens VB coach a year ago because the ILL coach took the Stanford job after they won the National Championship.(smart move) The coach they chose must of grabbed the Lovie Smith recruiting book because he doesn't recruit Illinois either. For those that don't know girls vball in Illinois, well it's loaded. Just ask Wisconsin a perennial top 5 school every year loads their roster with Illinois girls.

The difference is that the Illini volleyball program is ranked #4 in the country right now. Hard to argue with his methods
I don’t see where U of I volleyball should be included in this mess. Are they not currently in the top five nationally? As far as talent in Illinois you also have it wrong. The number of women’s volleyball recruits and travel programs are better in Nebraska, Iowa, and even Wisconsin which are a stones throw from Champaign. Indiana as well. Other sports, yes, but the volleyball program is top shelf and where the other programs need to be.

Not to get way off topic, but that is simply not true. The state of Illinois produces more division volleyball players than every state other than Texas and California. The states you list are not even close to Illinois in producing D1 volleyball players. For the record, here are the number of players by state on D1 rosters:
1. Texas 699
2. Cali 666
3. Illinois 354
Indiana has 173, Iowa has 96, Wisc has 87 and Nebraska has 51.
Now back to football.
These numbers are relative to state population.
- Illinois = 12.8 million
- Indiana = 6.6 million
- Iowa = 3.1 million
- Wisconsin = 5.8 million
Agree, but when talking about numbers, as the previous poster was, Illinois is considered a hotbed of talent for girls volleyball.
besides volleyball, both golf programs and both tennis programs at UI are doing well. Look at the rosters for those sports and there are few kids from Illinois on those rosters as well.
Talking about top college volleyball programs and the ranking of those programs. How many are in Illinois? 1. It has been recruited like AAU basketball with position players changing the profile. Give the vball coach time and they will hit Illinois recruiting. Lovie can’t right the sinking ship.

Talk all you want about Lovie or the 8 class playoffs, just don't bring up "the god damn mill" to me.
Schools are run by football and basketball. Those are the money makers, so a sport like golf doing well won't get the attention.
More D1 players in vball in Iowa then Illinois? That's not even close to being true. Illinois has top notch vball programs that win national championships (Fusion, Sky High, Sports Performance).
My point is that we have enough talent in state that we should be keeping kids home. They might be ranked #4 in the country but schools like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Mich State, Nebraska and Penn State come in every year and steal top notch players. Why do we need to leave our state if the talent is here. The same applies to football.
You bet state of Illinois volleyball is very good and none of those girls are going to the Illini - Naz has a Penn State recruit, Marist player going to Clemson , and Benet has a Penn State and Notre Dame commit .
Wisconsin is #5 in country with a 6’8” outside from Riverside Brookfield. Plus a load of other Illinois girls .
If you want to see a great high school rivalry go see a volleyball match between Marist, MacCauley, or Benet.

Apparently Fleck has no idea how to defend the read option...On the 3rd 70+ yard TD run for the Illini, Corbin went untouched around the west side of the lineman pile, while Bush (who I thought kept the ball because his hole to run through was bigger) went untouched around the right side of the pile...Bush is running 40 yards downfield waving his arms and I'm worried that he's going to fumble...And waving his arms he's still pulling away from the defense...
If the 40 best guys to run your system are out of state, go get them. However, I've seen nothing about this system that Illinois kids can't do...And I'm starting to see more run-pass options that work, opening up the middle even more - even if I'd really prefer watching a QB under center with a power running game, instead of a finesse running game...
