My IHSA District Project (5 Classes) - Work in Progress

Here are my enrollment breakdowns for the hypothetical 5 class district proposal.

I had 459 schools in the district proposal, so the classes will be 92 in 5A, 92 in 4A, 92 in 3A, 92 in 2A, and 91 in 1A

Tossing around the idea of each class having 16 districts (number of teams per district will vary due to geography and other factors) and the top two teams in each district will advance to the playoffs. Only your district standings will count toward you making the playoffs.

In this hypothetical arrangement CPS has decided only to enter its Red Division teams into the district classifications. Every two years the four CPS schools with the worst overall record will drop down to the White divisions and be replaced by the best four White teams over the previous two years.

In this hypothetical scenario teams will be given the option to play in a higher classification, so example Mt. Carmel and ESL could opt into 5A.

I am working “opt up” teams now, which will change the classifications, but this is the preliminary idea.

Stay tuned to this thread for the opt ups later this week….

Are you contemplating a proposal with no multiplier or you just stripped it for simplicity as a first cut?

Here are our schools opting up classes.

Up to 5A....

Marist, Brother Rice, Mt. Carmel, and East St. Louis

Up to 4A....

Fenwick, Carmel, St. Rita, St. Laurence, Providence Catholic, St. Francis, Joliet Catholic, Sacred Heart-Griffin, Montini Catholic, Nazareth Academy, and IC Catholic

Up to 2A....

Bishop McNamara, Bloomington Central Catholic, Althoff Catholic, St. Teresa, and Newman Central Catholic

Used straight up IHSA numbers. No multiplier. No success factor.
Seeing it all lined up like that shows how arbitrary district size cut offs are. Which I get is unavoidable. But would be really interesting to see a primarily geographic drawn district map, with simply some sort of standard deviation size check. Then order the classes by average district size. Am I crazy?

Look to Soucie's district proposal, it shows them all broken down on a map.

Your missing 50+ CPS schools
In this hypothetical arrangement CPS has decided only to enter its Red Division teams into the district classifications. Every two years the four CPS schools with the worst overall record will drop down to the Blue divisions and be replaced by the best four Blue teams over the previous two years.

There is also a White Division, the Blue is for bottom schools.......the White is the middle
