Five Friday night games again this week. Last week, I predicted there would be no running clock games and there ended up being three. This week, I think 3-4 running clocks are likely.

Chatham (0-1) at Eisenhower (0-1)
Both teams lost last week but had to feel good about how they competed. Chatham’s new QB threw for 320 yards in his first start and Chatham lost by only 3 to Springfield. Eisenhower, after not playing in the spring and winning once since 2017, only lost 19-14 at Southeast. Credit to them for the effort but Southeast is near the bottom of the conference. It will be hard for Eisenhower to keep it close this week, unless Chatham has a big let down. Chatham 44 Eisenhower 7.

Jacksonville (0-1) at U High (0-1)
Big game for both teams. U High, which has a new coach, was hammered on the road by MacArthur. Jacksonville stayed with Rochester for 1 and 1/2 quarters before being running clocked. This is U High’s best chance to show they aren’t headed again to the bottom four of the conference. Jacksonville needs a convincing win to show they are still on pace to at least 5 wins and playoff consideration. I think they will win pretty handily. Jacksonville 40 U High 13

Southeast (1-0) at SHG (1-0)
Southeast came from behind and beat Eisenhower at home but it was a one score game. After going 0-6 in the spring, any win is a good win. SHG dominated Lanphier, who wasn’t bad in the spring, 61-7. SHG should get the running clock going by the end of the first half. SHG 53 Southeast 6

Springfield (1-0) at Lanphier (0-1)
Both teams play their home games at Memorial Stadium, so it’s not really a road contest for Springfield. Springfield came from behind on the road to beat Chatham last week. Rashad Rochelle had a huge game running and passing and has a new big target in Sophomore TE Jack Swaney. Lanphier, which was 3-3 in the spring, was not competitive with SHG. Not expecting them to do much better this week. Springfield 47 Lanphier 7

MacArthur (1-0) at Rochester (1-0)
The spring game was a disaster for both defenses with Rochester winning 70-39 but being unable to get a running clock. MacArthur has beaten Rochester at home in 2014 and lost by only one score in 2018. They have not played well at Rochester though, even when they had the Brummett twins at QB and WR. My hunch is that Rochester DC Steve Buecker will not want a repeat of the spring performance. Hank Beatty should have another big week. Last week, he took about 80% of the snaps but also played at both WR and RB. Mac will score some points but Rochester should go to 2-0. Rochester 59 MacArthur 23

All.... Rain with the works coming which could effect or delay play. Let's hope they are wrong I have hamburgers to grill.... Ratsy

Hearing that Rochester-MacArthur game is off due to COVID issues for Mac.

Sounds like Mac will be down for Week 3 as well. They were to face Southeast.

Now hearing that Rochester will play a Saturday afternoon game at Loyola Academy. Normally don’t question any of Derek’s moves but this strikes me as a bad idea the week before playing SHG. Regardless of the outcome, Rochester is going to be at a substantial physical disadvantage vs Loyola and you don’t want to be beat up for the Leonard Bowl.

Happy to see that both teams are willing to play each other. In the world we are on right now, you really never know when your last game will be. Whether it is a definite win or a big challenge, having the kids play games is more important than taking an L and losing out on an opportunity to play, because it may be their last.

Springfield and Lanphier on local tv game of the week. Springfield up 33-0 in the first. Lanphier has 3 lost fumbles and also failed to handle a kickoff. Five player ejections after a lengthy fight following one of the Lanphier fumbles. Still 5 minutes left in 1st.

51-8, still 3 minutes left in 1st. Rochelle with a KO return for TD followed by a unsportsmanlike penalty for taunting.

Chatham-Eisenhower game already over. 42-6 Chatham. Springfield-Lanphier game still not at half.

All.... Cyclones over Southeast I believe 59-7. (out in the woods at the half under the tent..... ) I still have no clue what the Cyclones have. Two opponents at the bottom of the 10 teams in the CS8 that SHG has defeated. Next week at Rochester could be a whole different story. We will see. Ratsy P.S. A shame the Cyclones have two football studs that would dominate in the CS8 out for the season. You play who you have.....

All Finals
Glenwood 42 Eisenhower 6 Glenwood led 42-0 at half and got another good effort from their QB.

Jacksonville 35 U High 14 The closest game of the night. Jacksonville pulled away in the 2nd half.

SHG 59 Southeast 7 Another running clock win for the Cyclones. Leonard Bowl next week at Rochester.

Springfield 66 Lanphier 20 Springfield wins big but loses 4 players to ejection who will also have to sit out next week. Lanphier has taken a step back after going 3-3 in the spring.

If you look at Rochester’s last two losses, Chatham in 2019 and SHG in the spring, there were similarities. Both games on the road. Early missed opportunities that could have swung momentum our way. Against Chatham, we dropped a likely TD on the first play of the game. Against SHG, Hank Beatty had what looked to be a huge gain taken away in the first half by a DB who made a great INT. The killer in both losses though was the Defense being unable to get stops and being physically overmatched. On one day’s notice, can DC Steve Buecker come up with a plan that will get 4-5 stops against a bigger team? My head says that the outcome could be about the same as the SHG loss (33-52). My homer heart says that if Rochester stays close early and Hank has another statement game, they can win. Rochester 36 Loyola 34

All.... I find your post interesting. The Kool-aid is flowing which is unusual for you. Chatham was the second best team in 6A (2019) and there was only one team better in that class. Playing the what if game in a 30 point loss to them is well.... silly.

SHG in the spring..... Just be happy it wasn't a full season with playoffs. The Cyclones would of returned a double tap loss in 2019 with your team in the same manner. 2'w's.

Having said that I have the Rockets by three scores when the Cyclones come calling next week. We will see. Ratsy

Fair points. Do you think I’m enjoying another glass of Kool-aid by picking the Rockets or do they have a chance today? You seemed more confident about them beating St Rita in 2019 than I was.

All.... Sure they have a chance today. I don't throw "buckle up " out that often when commenting on an upcoming game. And I'm on record on this board stating St. Rita would of finished several spots down had they been in the CS8 in 2019. Ratsy

Week 2 Observations
After picking Rochester to beat Loyola, I won’t be buying any lottery tickets for a while.
Too early to tell if this thumping helps or hurts down the road. Having SHG next week for the Leonard Bowl is a good motivator, as Hank Beatty pointed out yesterday they were the last team to hammer us before Loyola.

Chatham at Jacksonville next week a big game for both. Chatham has impressed a little more so far and has a history of beating Jacksonville. A win by Jacksonville would be huge towards qualifying for the playoffs.

Springfield is going to score lots of points but not sure if their defense can hold down SHG and Rochester. We will find out Weeks 4 and 5. Springfield RB Elms looks really good.

Will Southeast take the forfeit W over Mac next week or try to get a game?

U High hung in for a half against Jacksonville. They have a winnable game next week at Lanphier. Lanphier defense really struggled both in Week 1 and 2.

You were thinking with you heart not you head. They never had a chance. The coach led his team to slaughter.
