Bears

Interesting enough during the decade ending with the 23-24 NFL season, the average head coaching tenure was 3.2 years with 5 coaches having been at the helm for at least 10 season. Among all HCs, average age was 43.
John, you are absolutely, certainly and unequivocally correct. And I felt very strange writing that. For me, the organization is of far more concern than the guy they just hired.

But, none of the head coaches they hired in the past 10 years have been able to secure another head coaching job in the NFL since leaving the Bears. That says something. Marc Trestman did secure another head coaching job...but that was back in the CFL. Where he won his 3rd Grey Cup. So, there's that. LOL!

Bears fired HC in season for first time ever.
Bears spent what was needed to get their guy and consensus top candidate on market.
Bears were lauded for their process in Johnson hiring.

While this doesn't mean the Org is fixed but it does show they have done things differently this time around. I think that is a start to them understanding how a successful org operates. Now we wait to see if it works out.

To me, I appreciate someone who can correct action...even if it took far too long. I would also add to the list the firing of Waldron.

With all of that being said, we could still see an absolute clown show continuation going forward. I'll try and be cautiously optimistic though. we shall see how the draft goes!

To me it's just lazy to just point out past failed hires when this time around it was actually different. Each situation/hire is different even in the same org. Don't get me wrong, having some hesitation is expected but I am sick of hearing about Nagy/Flus/Trestman/etc.

Really? Lazy? What the hell else are people supposed to say? We have seen history repeat itself too much to believe in anything the McCaskeys say. Even if this situation is different, the same outcome can happen. I think it's more than hesitation. But I do want to stay optimistic too. However, I will believe it when I see it.

etc = Fox, Jauron, Armstrong, Pardee, Gibron. Quite the stellar cast.

Just by dumb luck the McCaskey's are bound to get it right at some point.
In fairness. The old man hired all of those guys with the exception of Jauron and Fox, yes? Overall and with the exception of 1984-1988 the Bears have mostly sucked since the mid 1960s. LOL

You really want to put feathers in their caps for this?

1. Eberflus should have been fired after the Washington game. Wait a minute. Eberflus should have been fired in January of 2024. Hold on. Eberflus should never have been hired.

2. Yep. Johnson is and was the top candidate/prospect on the market. Lots of people in lots of places said so. So, he should be a "can't miss" coach. To use a baseball analogy, my hope is that Johnson turns out to be a "can't miss" prospect who turns out to be like Ken Griffey Jr. instead of a "can't miss" prospect who turns out to be Clint Hurdle or Daryl Boston. LOL.

Yeah sure, it's different. But if the McCaskeys, the team and the fans want different then they should SELL THE DAMNED TEAM! Now THAT would be different. 😀😀

Feathers? Your words not mine. My hope is this is a sign they are figuring things out. I cannot change the past hires, how they operated, etc, all I can do is look at the present actions. When they do something(s) different and act like a functioning NFL team, yes, I will mention it as a positive. And I ended my previous post with "Now we wait to see if it works out". So Yes I am not 100% sold things are magically completely changed but doing things differently is certainly a welcome sight.

1. Sure. Still doesn't mean I cannot point out they did something they have never done.
2. Yes, we all know Johnson isn't guaranteed success. No one is saying that, no one. We all know it may not work out but that doesn't mean right now I cannot be happy with the move and they way the acted like a charter NFL franchise.

I don't believe words from the McCaskeys but this was action not words. They did a few things they haven't done, actions not words. Yes, we all know the same outcome can happen? We all know that and no one is acting like all is fixed and the Bears are the Chiefs.

We have been down this road more times than I want to remember. I am at wait and see. Talk is cheap prove it on the field then I will be a believer.
