Bears

I was thinking the Bears would run the ball more today too for obvious reasons. Indy came into the game dead last in the NFL against the run. The Packers absolutely destroyed them on the ground last week. But, yes. You do need a good OL to run the ball. However, it seemed like the Bears really had no interest in the run. It wasn't like Indy was blowing them out at any point. Why throw the ball that with a line that can't and wasn't protecting the QB? AND as many of you stated. The play calling was horrible.

I’m already tired of Waldron. I have enough Seahawks fan friends from my time spent living out there that basically either offered condolences or talked trash to me when the Bears hired him.
The series of plays inside the 5 was just brutal. Im not a fan of short yardage runs from shotgun, particularly in a goal line situation where there’s no depth to work with. If your O line isn’t that great, the extra time it takes for the back to get to the LOS from that formation would seem to add to the degree of difficulty. Then to do it over (and over). Then there was the option play which was so bad it had to be hilarious to non Bears fans.
Just terrible.

In 2024 how is it possible that they don't know they need to go for two and then burn an extremely important TO? How in the world did someone not understand that during the drive down the field to score? I cannot let that one go.

I thought the same. I was also wondering if they weren’t ready to go for 2 because Caleb and Rome were kind of goofing around and celebrating.

Maybe but before the O goes on the field, I would think it would be planted in their heads they are going for two. Sadly, I have to think they didn't even think of it.

I just heard Eberflus on AM 1000 a little while ago and the guy is a clown. They were asking questions that he simply wasn't answering. "We have to do better in that situation." Then they asked him about the option play with 4th and 2 near the goal line and asked why Williams either didn't call a TO or change the play when he got the defensive look he got because Indy usually didn't line up that way in that situation. And Eberflus totally avoided the question and more or less said it was the right call and they just didn't execute the play.

This clown is so full of shit, it isn't funny. The guy talks and says absolutely nothing. Hell, I can turn on a certain politician if I want to hear a bunch of words that don't answer questions and offer word salads.

I am so sick and tired of this guy and others on that staff saying, "yeah, we have to do better in that situation." WELL, NO SHIT! Little kids who are playing in the sandbox know you need to do better. If you need to do better, then DO better. Don't tell us what you need to do. We know. Shut up and do it!

Whatever happened to accountability? Tell players to do things and then expect them to get done. If they don't then get guys who will. Same goes for coaches and management. Rant over.

That was another question Eberflus got and totally avoided. They should never have brought that clown back.

Someone with more time than me can search through this thread for last year posts. +/- Half way through the season, people were saying Eburflus might be the worst coach in the league, and wanted him fired mid-season. They traded for Sweat, and the defense had a bit of resurgence against mostly bad teams, and somehow 'Flus became ok. He should have been launched at the end of the season, and whoever the favorite "offensive mind" available was, hire them.

I read that Caleb wanted to check out but play clock was low. That warrants a TO. Now should have Caleb called it, sure but I can accept a rookie mistake. BUT the coaches should know based on formation that play had no chance to work. They need to call the TO!!!

Why are you so upset and shocked? Was this your first time listening to a coaches interview the day after a game? When do they ever say anything of substance? It's always vague, bland answers. No coach these days is going to provide headline material, especially after Week 3.

I sure hope none of you guys live near a bridge the way you talk. It's funny how you talk about how bad they were last year yet expect immediate improvement with no exceptions. It's not like this group of core players has ever played together or has any semblance of what to expect from one another. This is a big reason why I'm in favor of starters playing more in the preseason. Itsweek 3, these guys are all still getting a feel for each other.

I expect knowing when to go for 2 and knowing when a 4th and goal on 1 isn't going to work based on formation and calling a TO.
I am not even Monday morning QBing that play call, though I don't like it, you didn't get the look you expected...call a TO.
The actual play on field I agree with you.

I agree. The guy is a rookie. I am sure we all know things are different with him than Trubisky or Fields. This guy didn't play much in preseason and got thrown right into the fire in week 1. So, I give him a ton of slack. At least the others got to see it from the sideline for a while before entering. Williams does look overwhelmed at times. We should probably expect that to continue for a while.

The HC should be ready for TO calls when play clock is low, totally obvious wrong play called at wrong time, etc.. That is like the bare minimum to help a rookie QB.

I never said I was surprised. I said I am tired of it and Eberflus shouldn't have been retained. I have to wonder what he says to some of these guys in private. "It's ok Johnny. You tried didn't you?" I seriously doubt anyone here actually expects immediate improvement. But we were constantly told how much better this team would be and we haven't seen any signs of it yet. Yes, it is still early. But, so far, where is improvement offensively over last year? The Bears are lucky they aren't 0-3. Last year they averaged 21 points a game and so far they have averaged 17 points a game. I don't see any improvement. Immediately or not.

Oh, by the way. I do live close to a bridge that if you go to the highest point and jump off, you will most certainly not survive. No Chicago team, or any team for that matter, is worth doing such a thing. I simply tune out and watch RedZone. Which is what I did here and there yesterday. I don't like watching shitty football. And the Bears, Indy game was shitty football. The only reason I was watching was because it was pouring rain outside which kept me from getting things done out there. I already looked at the forecast for this Sunday and so far there is a chance of rain. LOL. Hopefully it doesn't come till late in the afternoon.

He's protecting his guys in front of the media. Nothing wrong with that unless he does the same in team meetings/behind closed doors. Mike Tomlin does the same thing

Protecting your guys is one thing. But answer the damned question. This is bullshit. Ozzie Guillen protected he players too. But he answered questions and didn't take crap from the media. Eberflus is worried about feelings and wants to be friends with everyone. Get the job done now. Worry about friendships later.

Very embarrassing. Wached the secodn half in a Galway pub (couldn't hear the audio) where the locals complained about the clock stopping so oftern. I ttold them that we complain about that, too, but it's way down the list about watching the Bears.

Watched a recording pf Channel 9's sports show this mornming and got further depressed.

Please sell, Vidrginia and Jerry!

Then why be so upset if you knew he wasn't going to say anything of substance? Who constantly said they would be better? I think this is still a playoff team, but going to the extremes week in and week out based on the outcome is ridiculous. I think that would be exhausting, but you do you.

Through 3 games last year the Bears averaged 15.5 points per game and in Fields first 3 games as a rookie in 2021 they averaged just under 13 points per game and in 2022 they averaged 13.3 through the first 3 games. So needless to say they don't light up the scoreboard out of the gate.

I think the statement speaks for itself, unless you expected them to be 3-0…
Does it? They beat the Giants and an injured 49ers team. The Houson win is their only good win. Not expected to be 3-0, but I don't see it as shocking.

In other useless news, Fields has won 3 games in a row for the first time in his career. Funny, it only took him 3 games to do this with a different team.

Through 3 games...

Williams...70-118 for 630 yards and 2 TDs 2 INTs
,.1-2 record.
Daniels...61-76 for 664 yards and 2 TDs and zero INTs...2-1 record

Was the #1 pick not so pre determined?

First of all, if you read my posts in the past I am not one who goes from one extreme to the other each week. It's one thing to lose a game. Every team does it. But to go out there and play such a rotten game is something every fan should be pissed about. Then to have the head coach go into an interview where he doesn't put any of this terrible effort on any of the players is ridiculous.

I am not saying he needs to get crazy calling these guys out to the media. There is a way to hold the players (and coaches) accountable for such a terrible game if he chooses his words correctly. Get it out of the system on Sunday and Monday morning and then move on to the next game. Players and coaches make mistakes. But to see the same things happening over and over is something to be alarmed about.

Finally, if you think this Bears team is a playoff team, it says more about the league than the Bears. I did not see a playoff team in that game on Sunday. Either team.

STOP! Personally, I like Fields. Always have. But the Steelers are not winning because of Fields. They are winning because they have given up only 26 points in three games. In case you haven't figured it out, that means they are giving up an average of 8 points a game. Insane. They are averaging 17 points a game which is about right for Fields. Any QB in the league would be 3-0 with the Steelers needing to get only 11 points to win any of their first 3 games.

While Fields did have a good game on Sunday his other two games were, Meh. The big thing is the fact he isn't turning the ball over as he did in the past. It's one thing to tell a QB to go out and win a game. It's another to tell a QB to NOT lose the game. We'll see what happens when other teams start scoring more points on Pittsburgh. That is when Russell Wilson will get his job back.

3-0 is 3-0. But don't even act like it's because of Fields.

You really think the Steelers are winking because of their quarterback play?

Different situations. I think OC makes a huge difference there. Watching last night made me think of how much better their scheme is. On the flip side, Caleb has definitely had bad passes. Daniels has had much better decision-making so far.

I said I wanted Kingsbury but was laughed at. That being said no matter what the OC calls it's not his doing that led to Daniels going 21-23.

I get where you're coming from but he's helping them win.

Williams

70-118 for 630 yards (210 yards per game) with 2 TDs and 4 INTs and a QBR of 65.3

Fields

55-75 for 518 yards (172 yards per game) with 2 TDs and 1 INT with a QBR of 95.3

Williams also arguably has better weapons around him.

On the plus side, if Fields keeps starting the 6th round pick they received in the trade becomes a 4th round pick.

And what led to this stupid-ass possession? A brutal play-call by Waldron. The stupid-ass screen to the WR that NEVER works.
It's like someone who is below average at golf. Just need it to work once for you to believe it will happen again

Based on the week to week changes, I think Waldron may be taking advice from our posts. Keep the complaints going!

I know I can be very negative with some of my posts here about the Bears, but it's just too damn exhausting at times.

Especially when we fans can call a better game than our past and present OCs. I just don't get the stupidity. I really don't.

Players tell wimpy Waldron to get tougher on them and be more aggressive, and then he calls a WR screen.

The WR screen and losing 3-4 yards on second and 1 are what the Bears are all about!!!!!!

And honestly, what was Poles thinking with this O-line?

I don't think Poles should be on the firing block, but he definitely needs to be called out about this putrid O-line. Did he sign Nate Davis? And why is Velus Jones still on this damn team?
