St Francis @ Sycamore

I had talked myself into Sycamore being the favorite on that side of the bracket a week or two ago. Then in looking at results today, I am less than impressed. They had narrow one score wins over a 1-8 Dekalb, over a 4-5 Oswego East, and over a Mahomet team that eventually lost to SHG who got absolutely clobbered by JC last week.

Looking at their results, they seem to have improved as the year has gone on some, but their schedule still seems light. A nice win against Rochelle and then clobbering an injured Morris team are decent wins, but there isn't much there to make me think they can run the gauntlet of three tough games in 5A now.

I know comparing scores, especially from early in the season, is a pointless exercise. But I think I have talked myself from them being one of the biggest title favorites into now thinking they may be able to pull out an upset this week, but if they do, that may be as far as I see them getting.
Fair assessment, but how many conferences outside of the the CCL/ESCC have 3 quarterfinalists in one class outside of the I8? Naz will beat Rochelle but Rochelle will be the most physical team they've faced. Morris is down but made the quarters.

At worst the I8 has 3 quarterfinalists in 5A, at best it's an all I8 final.

You can question Sycamore's schedule but they only have 4 fewer "playoff points" than StF. So their schedule strength isn't that far off.

Sycamore is at home, but Franny is the favorite in this one.

Friday night quarterfinal games

I hate that there are so few Friday night games in the playoffs. I love the playoffs, but Saturday's are for college football, for me, it's my favorite sport. There's a natural order to these things, HS on Friday, college on Saturday, NFL on Sunday.

I fully understand some facilities don't have lights, and travel, and wanting the extra day to prepare, and I get it, but HS football is meant for Friday nights. I can't think of a better way to start the weekend.

Which game this weekend has you excited?

I'm interested in all these games. In some, the interest rises to the level of excitement. Will watch, or at least keep an eye on, as many as I can.

MS v. LA
SR v. Quincy
Batavia v. DGN
MC v. Normal
LF v. Geneva
JCA v Peoria
Naz v. Rochelle
SL v. DP
Montini v. Princeton

But why must NFHS get involved with an MC home game? The game will be announced by the Caravan but broadcast by NFHS, the scourge of the playoffs for years. With them, there is a 50% chance of a catastrophic failure and a 100% chance of a production that's inferior to YouTube.

LWC 49 Hoffman 28 final

Great win for the LWC Knights but they lost in the locker room. Hoffman Estates decided to gather some momentos to take back home. I can remember a similar situation at Crete-Monee which I believe involved Brother Rice losing some goodies. Not a good look for the schools but nothing compared to Hillcrest HS.
Not a good look for Hoffman Estates.
