Higher seeds should get the home game.

Over the last 4 years, Byron has had to travel to IC catholic. 2 years in a row. And then the next 2 years, Montini.

They were the lower seed once. I just think there should be a better way. Just like everyone said that today shouldn’t happen today. And that it should have been a finals or semis. Is there a better way to seed these teams? We all know Montini isn’t a 9th seed.
Until the IHSA stops allowing CPS schools in when they help each other by forfeiting games to pad win totals, and they lose 98% of their playoff games every year, we can’t possibly expect any changes. Seeding is tough, geography makes it difficult for sure.

PC -18 I'll call it here first. The 2024 Prep Bowl Champ Celtics that have accepted the invitation at the correct time in their program's arc, dispense the Dons with little drama to face the Wolfpack next weekend in an extremely hard hitting affair.
3 out of 4 chance Providence plays a weird school in the Prep Bowl. In the 1980-90s, all 4 of the CPS semifinalists would be considered weird (Amundsen/W Young, Kenwood/Lincoln Park)

@BoundaryCorner Take a look at your MC pick and score. Did you mean Normal +23 wiith your 42-20 score? Or do you want MC -23 not realizing the score doesn't match that outcome. Please advise.

@ignazio Again with your gamesmanship during a Sparty v Sparty week. From your synopsis of the game, I assume you are taking the (Wheaton) St. Francis Spartans and giving the 3 points to the (Sycamore) Sycamore Spartans. Please advise.
Thanks for keeping me honest!

4A Quarterfinal St Laurence @ Chicago DePaul

Can kind of see where IHSA is coming from. Take the school's enrollment from when the varsity team (mostly made up of juniors and seniors) were freshmen and sophomores to get an idea of where the team - not the entire school - fits in for the upcoming two years. Especially in football, where freshmen and sophomore contributors are rare, seems like a decent way to get a snapshot of where the team fits in. If you just took STL's enrollment from this year, you're taking into account much larger freshmen and sophomore classes, 99% of which are not contributing to the varsity football team. Not perfect, but I understand it.

DePaul and STL are anomalies - rarely are you going to have schools (especially Catholics) that have spikes in enrollment like they have had that provide bad optics for sports classification. In STL's case, junior and senior classes are much smaller than freshmen and sophomores and next year's classification will reflect that. It will level off soon, at least for STL who wants to max out at 1200. Not sure what DePaul can grow to.

Potentially least competitive quarterfinal games

Fun note. 40+ years ago, CG attended a wishbone clinic put on by Vern Pottinger of Belvidere High School. They switched to that offense shortly after.
Another fun fact. This option attack isn’t the Barry Switzer option offense. This is the Fisher DeBerry Air Force option offense.
Played against that dreaded wishbone attack of Belvidere in the 87 semi-finals. My job was to put the pitch man down every play, whether he had the ball or not!
