*denotes 2024 IHSA state playoff projected qualifier

Preseason Conference MVP?

St. Viator senior QB Cooper Kmet- Kmet, who is the younger brother of Chicago Bears TE Cole Kmet has all the tools and is a name to watch from a recruiting perspective this fall.

DePaul Prep senior LB Jett Reese- Reese, who recently committed to EIU is a big kid with very good speed and quickness. Reese could also wind up developing into a defensive end at the college level.

Benet Academy senior TE/DE Declan Walsh- Walsh is indeed the younger brother of Minnesota TE Piere Walsh who also has a ton to offer here. Walsh has good size, will add much more strength and muscle in college. Walsh is committed to St Thomas (FCS).

St. Patrick junior OT Conor Malenock- A starter since his freshman season, the Shamrock are looking for a breakout season and the Shamrocks offensive line is a plus position this fall led by Malenock.

Sleeper Players to Watch?

St, Viator senior WR/DB Davyion Ellis

DePaul Prep senior QB Ju Ju Rodriguez

Toughest Overall Schedule?

Benet Academy
The Redwings from top to bottom play 9 very strong opponents this fall. The Redwings open up the season hosting Hillcrest then host Moline in Week 2. The remainder of the crossover games including at Mount Carmel and at Nazareth Academy are truly no joke.

CCL/ESCC Purple Conference Statement Game?

Crossover games against the CCL.ESCC schools- Again this conference is very solid and it's success usually arrives in the first few rounds of the IHSA state playoffs. Just getting through the CCL/ESCC crossover games healthy is a challenge but if these Purple schools can get to say 4-5 wins....they have a real shot at making post-season noise.

TV for Cascia? SR 27, Sandburg 17 (Final)

Gents, does SR normally stream its home games on Youtube or NFHS?
Began experimenting with YouTube last year. Started rough, ended better. I’ll share a link when they post it. It will be YouTube.

Plus I’ll call tomorrow to see how far they come in getting a quality production.

Give me your team’s Star, Stud, Sleeper and Soon

99/Pulaski

Star: QB CJ Gray (Jr, 6’0 185) - QB1…it all starts there

Stud: SS Conner Stack (Sr, 5’9 185) - leading tackler…maybe an Ivy Leaguer?

Sleep O: WR Daniel White (Sr, 5’11 175) - could end up the being most “productive” player on O

Sleep D: CB Donovan Moody (Sr, 6’2 190) - looks the part, has flashed at times, time to…awake (see what I did there!?)

Soon O: Ath Jameson Davis (So, 5’9 185) - will likely line up as RB, Slot, KR this season

Soon D: DT Brayden Parks (So, 6’3 285) - on multiple P4 programs radar

5-4 if ball bounces our way?

I’ll keep praying to the good man above.
3ow, How dare you enter a thread meant for the whole state that devolved into another Mt. Carmel thread? Stay in your lane or get in here before the Caravan faithful take the thread over to let us who they think has a shot at second string nickel back.

It’s ok. All can be forgiven by your egregious error over a bucket at McNallys this weekend. Thank you for the info, but please step aside, I need to know how the 2024 Caravan stand up to the 1950 Caravan.

TV for Cascia? SR 27, Sandburg 17 (Final)

I can just piggy back onto this thread if you don’t mind.

I know there’s plans to televise. Saw more tech gear there this year than last year but don’t know if it’s for game film use or public consumption. I can make a call tomorrow morning.

As far as a preview: This matchup is perfect for both schools. A great test for both schools but with the SICA/DuPage merger, I don’t know if Sandburg re-ups for another two years.

I say perfect for both schools because St. Rita gets a healthy program with an excellent coach while still being favored most of the time. While Sandburg gets an annual playoff qualifier with a challenging roster that they can definitely beat once in awhile. I mean Sandburg’s schedule does not ‘need’ St. Rita on it to make them playoff-ready, the rest of their schedule is challenging enough. Does Sandburg re-up with a traditional power or go searching for an easier week 1 W?

As far as the game goes, it’s a toss up. St. Rita’s young speed vs Sandburg’s size. Sandburg, again, impresses with McAllister as their week 0 scrimmage was vs Morgan Park. Morgan Park has speed to burn so St. Rita’s possible speed advantage is partially negated by the Eagles’ having seen top flight speed already this season ( how many years can you say that in week one, never until week 0’s became a thing)

St. Rita usually known for a having a stable of corn-fed, sewer cap monsters is undersized compared to their usual years. But fret not, they’ll still be bigger than 75% of their opponents. And from the looks from week 0, Sandburg is not a team the Mustangs will be bigger than. The Eagles are massive.

I know the coaches don’t want to hear this but this collection of St. Rita Mustangs is the best group of talent they have had sophomore to senior since the Kaleb Brown/Michael Gaughan year. But they are young, and I mean young. 17? Seniors on the team. But of those seniors are the extremely talented James Kingsbury, Justin Buckner and Nick Herman so that is an impressive trio. Plus, I’m going to say it now, the defensive backfield led by returning juniors Langston Smith and James Franklin with the rest of the nickel personnel are all underclassmen, I cannot wait to see them with one year of Coach Hopkins under their belt. It’s possibly the best potential defensive backfield I have seen at 77th and Western Ave.

The Mustangs offense could be explosive. JR QB Armbruster definitely impressed me in week 0 being bigger, stronger and quicker than I remember. If Coach Nee can get his swagger going early in games and in the season, he can have an extremely productive career. I see the JR Armbruster’s confidence as an extremely important factor to his game. He’s hard on himself. But when he’s bouncing like he knows he belongs (Marist game last year) then he could end up being the best player on the field.

And if St. Rita has a potential, legitimate Player of the Year Candidate, it’s RB Nick Herman, violent, fast, a threat to house each touch. Best CCL player not named Elliot. Soph RB, Brandon Johnson looks the part. Herman is the horse but you can’t go an 11-14 game season with their schedule getting 40 touches, you need a compliment and Brandon Johnson could be perfect. Raw, talented, large, fast, accepts contact, if his feet, angles and carrying height improves over time, St. Rita will produce another top flight RB. Toss in what could be St. Rita’s best offensive weapon in since Kaleb Browns Junior year in Walter Jones and like I said, the very young Mustangs could, COULD be explosive.

Sandburg returns many key pieces from last year and will again have the size advantage. This game could go either way. Sandburg with a quality week 0 opponent, have a week experience over the young Mustangs and if I have overrated St. Rita’s talent, then the Eagles will go toe to toe for 4 quarters winning a 22-21 type game. I believe St. Rita will win 21-8 but can see them losing this game also like I said if I have overrated them. Sorry wit that it took so long to respond. Have a great week

Lanphier head coach resigns after argument over funding, practice time

You sound like a person who watches a video of police clearly doing their job & yet still are angry at them
How so? Im really confused now. I thought we were talking about hs football. How did we get on the subject of police? I just asked why he feels the admin in the Springfield area are woke and what that has to do with hs fb. If the best response you had was bringing up something else that also has zilch to do with hs fb, maybe you should have kept that to yourself.

And fyi, id never be angry at a police officer for doing his job. That would be silly.

The New CS8.... 2024 Schedule

Chatham will be ready. They will be the most disciplined team Edwardsville will play during the regular season. Don't get me wrong, I believe Edwards will has a lot of talent and has more enrollment to draw from, but the game should be really good test.
Chatham couldn't stop the run last year against MacArthur, SHG, or Rochester. We're going to find out quickly if they've built a bigger, more physical defense against a team that returns 9 starters on offense, including 4 O-Lineman each weighing between 230 and 285.

We made it

I said the same thing about them & others that got rid of their nicknames & they piled on me. The Pros outside of the Washington Redskins which btw was met with many Native Americans disagreeing with that decision have kept their names. I agree with Pekin Chinks going bye bye but others? No. And Lemont STILL hasn’t came up with a nickname!!!! The Kids even wanted the Engines & the big brass said oh no. That sounds too much like the Injuns. Ofc all the tearing down of statues, replacing the guys on rice, cream of wheat & the lady on pancake syrup has obviously helped peace & harmony with no violence or crime all over our country 😒🤪
My suggestion was to call them the Red Skins and change the mascot to a potato

We made it

I still can't believe they caved in and got rid of their Redskins name. Such weakness.

Sangamo Conference Woes

I never claimed QND was a powerhouse, or the material to make one. You've made that up in your head. In fact, I didn't even mention QND in this thread. YOU did. And for what? That's what I was asking. A complete stray, for what? To remind QND how much better you are? For what it's worth, in the time you listed QND made a run in 3A to the semi's. Just not as good as they once were, slim years happen my guy. You have, however, reminded me why we, QND, hate Rochester. Pompous douche canoe's who refuse to challenge yourselves and instead remain in 4A where the challenge will never exist. Then talk down to those 4A or smaller programs like you invented football... Pathetic, honestly.

I was on the 1 in the 1-3 record for QND vs. Rochester. 20 years you've built a nice program. Happy for y'all. Sure beats the scenes of ambulance's and stretchers we saw in 2004. Y'all was weak AF back then. Our frosh and soph made y'all look like soccer players that day.

I can't even begin to take you seriously with the Rochester playing up part. You're a a joke for that one.

We will be 1-3 going into week 5... but, you know, that's because we ACTUALLY play up. < 400 kids enrolled... playing a 2023 7A quater-finalist, an annual 4A powerhouse in R-B, and SHG... who you're familiar with I believe. The 4th team having over 1200 kids enrolled, easy math for you on that, that's 3 times our size in student body alone. The same cupcake you've "played up" against for 15 years. QND joining a whole conference twice to 3 times their size in enrollment is nothing, though, compared to Rochester playing one little game against an 8A Loyola...

I'll take the 2-7 bet. Name the price.
Your come back line is getting old. "Pompous douche canoe's who refuse to challenge yourselves and instead remain in 4A where the challenge will never exist" Where does it state that a school has to play up? Being salty because you private asses get taxed due to the 30 mile recruiting gift and being forced to play up so you think if a school can dominate a classification they should be taxed and forced to play up. The only school that plays up is EStL and they couldn't beat MIGHTY Mt. Carmel in 7A so their "Conference" says they can't play up 2 levels and we see what's happening in 6A with Cary Grove. Through the grapevine, Cary Grove is becoming the "Hot spot" for smash mouth football, thus getting the attention of big lineman, Alstott type running backs. I guess if they continue to win you will want the Trojans to play up to 7A? But either way a public school should have the right to play in its classification. Don't say it. Rochester doesn't need to recruit because families will naturally gravitate to Rochester and Chatham or do you think they should move into Southeast's or Lanphiers school districts???

We're here, it's week 1. The season is upon us! All the fun, but stupid, offseason arguments are over. Does your team have a chance? What is their ceiling? If they're not a title contender what win makes your season?

Morris will be Morris and should be 7-0 heading into Sycamore and then I know nothing about the team from Grand Rapids. After that it depends if they go 4A or 5A. 5A they make the quarters or semis. They go 4A, is it another clash with Rochester?

The New CS8.... 2024 Schedule

Because Rochester opens Saturday, I plan on going to Chatham vs Edwardsville the night before. Even at home, Chatham's probably a multi-score underdog. However, how well the Titans compete will send a clear signal whether this is the season the Titans again challenge Rochester and SHG for the top of the conference.

The New CS8.... 2024 Schedule

The good news for St Teresa is that their schedule looks to be quite a bit lighter this year.

Last year 7/9 teams they played not only made the playoffs, but they all won their first round game. (5 of those 7 also made the quarters)

This year they play 4 teams that look to be guaranteed losses (BMD, Farmington, Althoff, Highland) .

But if they have improved any at all, they might have a shot of winning several games against the other five teams (who had a combined record of 9-36).
For a small country school Farmington has 100 players in their system.
