New IHSA bylaw proposal seeks to eliminate Prep Bowl

It’s a huge advantage you are able to bring up underclassmen and incorporate them into your program while evaluating them. There is reason schools like LWE bring up kids for the playoffs when they don’t need the numbers at practice.

When was the last time a team competed in the prep bowl and made a deep run in the playoffs the next year.

Marist 42 v Glenbrook 14 3Q

Without that loss they might have been the number one seed. Marist second half adjustments were clinical and probably my biggest complaint in years past. Marist 2-0 versus the Blue this year. Big test. Excited already.
And not too long ago Marist did defeat LA twice in one season. Not many teams have beaten LA twice in 5 years, let alone twice in a season. Good luck to the Redhawks.

New IHSA bylaw proposal seeks to eliminate Prep Bowl

I just think most schools will realize there is no harm in this continuing and does not give a distinct advantage to the schools that participated in it the following season. These are schools that didn't qualify for the State Playoffs or had a first round loss. I just can't see a team in September saying they lost because their opponent played in a Prep Bowl game 9 months earlier and it gave them an advantage, I can't even imagine that would cross their mind to think that. I just think most schools won't see the harm in this and let the century old tradition continue.

New IHSA bylaw proposal seeks to eliminate Prep Bowl

I'm sure they get something but the attendance to the Prep Bowl play in games is extremely small, especially with the visiting teams, pretty much just the parents, so they may make a a couple hundred bucks off it tops. The actual Prep Bowl Championship game brings in a moderate crowd at best. It's held normally the day after Thanksgiving so many have Turkey hangovers, it's the parents, so die hard alums who are football enthusiasts and a handful of students. This obviously differs from school to school but my point is the money the IHSA may make off the Prep Bowl gates is definitely in the three figure range.
It’s always about money. I am sure the IHSA doesn’t like it because they don’t get a cut of the gate, concessions etc. it’s weird that the Prep Bowl has been around forever and some how they decide this it the year to try to shut it down. I never cared for the Prep Bowl. That said I don’t have a problem with it being played because as others have said they grew up with it and it’s been tradition for some. I don’t like that the IHSA is trying to impose it will to shut it down.

Peoria Notre Dame 59 Rochester 58 … “Houston, we have a problem”

Don’t count out Breese.
Their path got easier.
Wasn’t super impressed by Cahokia’s performance tonight.
Cahokia is likely to travel to Waterloo next week and I foresee that as a pretty competitive game. Whoever wins that one is my pick to at least reach the semis.

New IHSA bylaw proposal seeks to eliminate Prep Bowl

Shameful, senseless proposal that will never pass
I wouldn’t assume that there are a ton of downstate schools that will vote for it and I would assume the suburban CCL teams that don’t participate in the Prep Bowl would also vote for this. Why would you give teams that you are going to teams you play against in your conference extra reps to improve. The real wild card is how CPS schools vote or if they even vote.

Playoff Home/Away Game Discussion

Basketball and baseball have regionals and each regional is seeded based on coaches vote.
I don’t think that would work in a statewide football bracket. Yeah everybody might agree on the top seed, maybe the top 2 or 3, but it’s just too much for coaches to try and rank 31 other teams that aren’t set until right before the tournament starts.
Regionals are set months before they begin. Way fewer teams and more time to scout.
Outside of the current method, they could use calpreps/massey power ratings to seed the teams, or perhaps some formula that combines the current system and the computers.
Regionals are not set months in advance, it’s a few weeks before the state tournament

Feeto's Friday Upset Special.....

Chalk 😀😂
Mild upset. In all that talk about bad conferences in the area the West Suburban Gold is so bad that people forget to mention it.

But the game was evenly matched and entertaining. Had defense then offense and drama. I sat on the PFS side and got to hear all the coaching because their coaches are loud, but passionate. New appreciation for Plainfield South. They should be promoted to the West.
