Bears

I’ve tried to collect my thoughts best I can. Couple of things I look at when teams are bad. First is the organization. Do they know where they are going when they break the huddle, lineup, etc.

Second, effort. Thai can be categorized in a few ways but what I look for is even if you are making a mistake is if with supreme effort? You can always coach and correct but you can’t fix lazy.

This team is full of proven and talented players on both sides of the ball.

When they look this unorganized and this lazy that points to the coaching staff and preparation.

The defense looked like they never expected Arizona to run the ball.

Offensively, Arizona pressured a lot with just four. That’s just bad football.

My guy said ride this out with Flus because of the upgrades in talent. My gut tells me now to cut him loose before you ruin yet another talented young player in Williams.

Can’t make a case for more than one win the rest of the season.

BYRON at MONTINI?

I like Montini in this one for a few reasons: 1. Last year was heavy Junior team at key positions. 2. Switch at QB to a dual threat.
3. Closed out the year beating 4 top 100 ranked teams in convincing fashion, and I believe Byron has only played 1 top 100 team all year and it was close. 4. Playing at home and early in the bracket I believe favors Montini. 5. Made some long over due coaching adjustments.

Prediction: Montini by 2 scores

No way . Byron is the only team with the offensive fire power to win by two scores.

Montini has to hope this game is in the low 20s to sqeek out a maybe 3 point win.

BYRON at MONTINI?

Have you read 1984? Ya know... Newspeak? Over the last 10 years you can hear the players "re·gur·gi·tate" what a coach says about a game/team. Sure there's always the "special" kid that says what he believes which pisses off the coach. Blackboard material wasn't a big thing back in the John Wayne days of football when I played. We just lined up and fought like hell *win, lose or draw. Today's world you have kids with headphones getting "ready" for a game so don't tell me these kids don't see what's being said about this game. Young minds are soooooo impressionable (hence indoctrination in schools) and they believe what the see, read and hear.... Montini has the recruiting edge, home cooking, and the better team. They have played the schedule from hell. LOL..... Montini has heard, read and saw this for most of the year. That's in their minds. On Saturday they will line up "ready" for the game against Byron... What I would tell my team. BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU WISH FOR BECAUSE YOU JUST MIGHT GET IT!

Bears

You hit the nail right on the head. It seems like the Bears players have lost interest in the game.
Defense had their worst game of the season, possibly injuries to Sweat, Gordon and Brisker contributed to that. Caleb continues to consistently overthrow passes. The O-line is not good when completely healthy. Throw in some injuries, and it's off the charts bad. They gave up 6 sacks, and Caleb was running for his life on what seemed like most pass plays. With the crowd noise, it's difficult to play O-line on the road. IMO, it's the biggest reason why the Bears struggle so much on the road. They simply cannot block well enough to run any type of offense.

Back to your quote, I'm wondering if Eberflus has "lost the locker room". There seemed to be a lot of public questioning from players after the Hail Mary debacle and the plays that led up to it. The long run the D gave up at the end of the 1st half basically ended the game. They were not coming back from that. Didn't seem like all out effort on the part of the D on that play, which was a microcosm of the day, IMO.

Bears

Bears have looked completely unprepared to play football these past two Sundays.
You hit the nail right on the head. It seems like the Bears players have lost interest in the game.
Quick story. After the Chicago Christian/ Illini West game my wife and I were walking out near the Illini bench. We saw an Illini player hugging his Mom and Dad weeping because they had lost the game. End of his high school career . Maybe he plays in college, maybe not. Out of respect to him and his parents we passed by silently. After a while my wife says " That's how it is when you put your whole heart into something ".
That's why I follow high school football. The Bears sicken me. Can't wait until Friday and Saturday

Hilltopper Fans!

All.... SHG as many feel from both fan camps will be a multiple score heavy underdog. It's no secret play wasn't pretty in that Bulldog/Cyclone game by the Cycs. But you move on.

I'm curious and have a question from your side knowing that the Hilltoppers played Saturday evening in round one. Not complaining it's coaching and what I would do from a JC perspective. The forecast days ago (and the same) on this Friday was perfect 60's and no rain. Saturday rain on and off the entire day. Does anyone know if JC wanted Saturday only. Just curious knowing if both teams don't agree on Friday it goes to Saturday with the home team getting to chose game time. If the time is restrictive for the away team in thier eyes the Ihsa steps in and makes a ruling. Ratsy
I think it's as simple as they played last Saturday night and therefore now want to stay on a Saturday schedule, so not to lose a day of prep.

Player of the Year candidates?

Maybe some clarification. Certainly Schambow should be a canidate for high school football POY. Both his numbers, and subjective observation of his game play indicates he is among the elite players in IHSA football. Exciting player.

However, Schambow's IHSA baseball play (and his numbers) indicate he may also be considered for IHSA baseball POY. Exciting behind the plate, solid bat, without question an elite arm.
Sounds a lot like former player of the year Jack Lausch.

BYRON at MONTINI?

Maybe some of what you say is true, but I haven’t heard anyone say Byron was “down”. Their average score this year was 50-7. They had one close game, on the road, against what is by most accounts an outstanding 4A team.
If you want to talk about outside influences and what kids are thinking about, you can look no further than the fact that Montini was eliminated by Byron last year.
A quote from a Friday Night Drive article on 10/30 about Montini senior lineman who was voted FND MVP for week 9:
We have some payback, definitely. Not just for ourselves but for the seniors from last year’s team because they worked so hard. It’s not just a game for us, it’s a game for them. We just want the win right there.

Bears

Had plans today, the game was on but wasn't focused on it. What I did see wasn't great. My question is for the members of this board, why do all of the players get a free pass? Almost zero comments about execution, just all on coaching.

Friends and family I was with criticized the coaches but blamed the players more for lack of execution, but everyone here lays it all on the coaches. Why? Why does Caleb's inaccuracy get a free pass when Fields didn't? Why do you comment about coaches not making adjustments but not defenders ability to make a tackle? Caleb holds the ball too long or can't just throw to the check down and it's all on the OL and not him.

Why do you all hold the Bears to such high expectations? Their last 2 championships were 1985 and 1963, so they have one title in the last 61 years yet you continue to be disappointed when they don't succeed. Explain.

Daniels is miles ahead of Williams in terms of rookie development yet you are all in denial that Williams may have been the wrong pick. You have convinced yourselves that since he was the #1 pick that he has to be the guy.

Next coach? Vrabel? I personally love the guy, but shocked someone here mentioned him. For a bunch of guys that want the Bears to put up 50 points a game I'm surprised you'd want another defensive coach. Any offensive success Vrabel had was due to Derek Henry. If you want a new HC the correct answer is Ben Johnson.

Initially what I said is the kids are listening to adults saying Byron is down. Byron struggled. If you don't think Montini players don't read that and react/think what they hear and see is a truth YOU are sadly mistaken. No matter what a coach says... Kids will think what they think. I'm sure you've experienced this in your sports life!!! I guess Alabama believed Vandy was tough and could beat the Crimson Tide. Im sure thats what the players thought going into that game. Critical thinking is lacking even in adults I see....

Your postulation that Montini is going to overlook Byron for ANY reason is one of the more ridiculous things I’ve ever read here.
If Byron beats Montini it will be because they played better. End of story.

It’s very weird. Byron literally knocked Montini out of the playoffs last year lol why would they over look them. If Byron wins it’s because they are the better team and not that Montini looked past them.

BYRON at MONTINI?

Isn't it a shame a 2nd round game is called possibly a title game.

Something is messed up. Are the north and south being seeded separately in 3A.
All brackets 1A-6A are split north/south.

The south has won a few, but this type of thing has happened in 3A most of the past 20 years. Typically it’s not in the 2nd round. It’s usually in the quarterfinals. Sometimes in the semifinals.
