Hilltopper Fans!

Nice info, Ratsy. How do you see this game going? I watched SHG vs Mahomet Seymour. The Cyclones have some speed and weapons that will give the Hilltoppers problems. IMO, the big question is whether or not SHG can stop JCA's running game. That seems to have been the issue in past matchups. First time these teams will meet in Springfield. Looking forward to it.
All.... SHG as many feel from both fan camps will be a multiple score heavy underdog. It's no secret play wasn't pretty in that Bulldog/Cyclone game by the Cycs. But you move on.

I'm curious and have a question from your side knowing that the Hilltoppers played Saturday evening in round one. Not complaining it's coaching and what I would do from a JC perspective. The forecast days ago (and the same) on this Friday was perfect 60's and no rain. Saturday rain on and off the entire day. Does anyone know if JC wanted Saturday only. Just curious knowing if both teams don't agree on Friday it goes to Saturday with the home team getting to chose game time. If the time is restrictive for the away team in thier eyes the Ihsa steps in and makes a ruling. Ratsy

Player of the Year candidates?

Schambow played in baseball showcase game October 26/27 in Jupiter FL. Much MLB attention. Verbal commit to Oklahoma State baseball. Video from August 18 All Star game in San Diego attached. Schambow catching, see back-pick. Watch Schambow framing pitches (strikes). Baseball decision(s) to be made next spring.

Cool but it means nothing for player of year for football…

New IHSA bylaw proposal seeks to eliminate Prep Bowl

I love me some CPL Talk!

As a CPL fan, I love the Prep Bowl. It gives CPL teams the opportunity to play football into November, and I love that. I know the thing to do this time of year in this forum is to bash CPL teams and how underserving they are of the IHSA playoffs, how they can't compete, how they take up playoff spots from more deserving teams...blah, blah, blah... The idea of CPL schools getting an opportunity to do anything the rest of the state can't do just infuriates everyone. Good grief. If you actually spent some time going to CPL games on Thursday afternoons in front of 9 fans, you might have a greater appreciation for what those teams are dealing with. Honestly, head to the Friday and Saturday night games at Lane or Gately and you will see the same things. Low numbers of players. Mismatched jerseys. Low numbers of coaches. A shocking lack of gear (hudl sideline, trainers, kicking nets, only a couple sets of headphones - if there are headphones at all, no way to film...etc...) I know there are some exceptions, but overall, unless you are Simeon, Morgan Park, Kenwood, or Taft, nothing has been consistent. So what if they get some extra weeks to play football and possibly win a trophy? I'll say it again, no one in the CPL makes a stink that they are winning games by 40+ against suburban teams in the first rounds of the IHSA Basketball playoffs. Give it a rest and let the kids play.

Playoff Bracket Projections- Including projected Week 9 results & regional assigments

I just thought your comments above regarding West Aurora were a bit harsh. You also seemed to suggest they would lose their first-round game, which they did not do. I'm not claiming Huntley is a great team, but they did lose to Cary-Grove by only one point.

I try to go where the evidence leads me. As mentioned earlier, over the previous five seasons the Upstate Eight Conference champions were 5-0 in the opening round with the closest victory being by 8 points. Consequently, I was reasonably confident West Aurora would win its opening playoff game, which it did.

Conversely, although I will be rooting for West Aurora to defeat Maine South (only because they will be the underdog and their conference is much maligned), the evidence suggests that will not happen. In the second round over the last five seasons, the Upstate Eight Conference champions were 0-5 with the closest loss being by 18 points. Nevertheless, to use a word you used above, there is nothing "embarrassing" about being one of the last 16 teams playing in the 8A playoffs (no matter what conference you play in).
The last time West Aurora and Maine South played each other main south won by one point in the opening round of the playoffs. Main south went on to win the state title that year. Although most years West can’t hang with the elite of AA, that year showed in a given year, they certainly can hang.

Looking forward to Saturday’s game.
