Loyola (Hollywood) vs LW East (Beast)

On offense it looked like LWE just turtled up in the 2nd and then after halftime. Tried playing hero ball with Williams even though he got some rushing yards. Some of the flat passes were lucky to not be picked off and there was only a handful of designed RB runs. Just a disappointing game plan on offense.
It's a catch-22. You can't really argue with how they scored TDs on the first two drives.

The problem is after that, I think they relied too much on the RPO and designed QB runs instead of trying to work more RB action. Zion Gist just switched his commitment to Michigan State, so obviously East had a weapon. There weren't many lanes with those big Loyola d-linemen, but East also needed to let some clock run to give their defense a break.
Seems like some application of "DANCE WITH THE ONE WHO BRUNG YA," as famously stated by the legendary Darrell Royal, 20 season HC from the University of Texas decades ago.

Naz 40-21 final!

I don’t have any issue with the fake punt Francis ran in week 9. It was the absolute right call at the right time. Naz was about to run away with it and not only did it completely change momentum and keep Francis in the game they won! I also do not have any issue with Naz for Francis running fake punts Saturday. Both worked and therefore were the right calls lol.

I have a little issue with Francis calling reverses, throwbacks etc etc but that’s on them to make that decision. The reason I have a slight issue is because I don’t think they need to rely on that stuff. They are just as talented as Naz, but when it works like it did week 9 it’s genius. When it doesn’t like this past weekend it’s not such a good call.

I don’t mean this as a slight to SF by any means but I think Naz’s coaching staff is better. 9 rings gives me a damn good argument. I knew Racki would have adjustments and the team motivated for the rematch. There was no question in my mind Naz would play well and play inspired. Francis looked like a team that was tight and hasn’t been over the hump yet, Naz was confident, cocky even. They expected to win and didn’t waiver because that’s what they’ve done, win. Francis will get there and probably very soon but it wasn’t gonna be this year at the expense of this Naz team and coaching staff.
I think this is a very fair analysis. McMillen acknowledged in the postgame comments that SF as a program has to take the next step this offseason. They were tight, and as a result not nearly physical as they needed to be in a game like this. Agree with the criticism of the “Philly special” call to end the first half - just try and get the ball to Washington.

The key nail in the coffin that game was after SF ran back the opening kick in the 2nd half to make it 20-14, Naz answering immediately with a kickoff return of their own. Deflating is an understatement.

Illinois State’s Coach Spack 👏👏

Illinois State earned the right to host a home playoff game this week but since ISU is hosting the IHSA title games - they are on the road.

Coach Spack’s comments on the events ⬇️

"I thought it was more important that we get the state high school football championships back on campus. They needed to hear it from me that we would go on the road if we had to that first week.

"This is where the state championships belong. They were here when I was in high school, and this is where everyone wanted to end up," Spack told local outlet WMBD.

Very cool

Bears

Don't hang this season on the defense. In the big picture they are doing their job. They are giving up an average of 19 points a game. No matter whose defense it is, teams will give up more points than their average now and then. The Bears have given up 22 or more points only twice this year. I would like you to find another team that can say that and still only have four wins.
They are not the defense we thought they would be. It’s disappointing that we can’t stop the run until the red zone. We don’t put enough pressure on the QB when we know it’s a pass play. The defense needs an identity. Eberfool can’t motivate players. I am sure this has something to do with the lack of focus.

A wrap from a LWE guy.

First of all thank you for all the coaches, parents, support staff, and most of all the young men playing the games…salute !
Scrambler8 probably summed up HS football a bunch of years ago on this site but only a few would remember but here goes.
Over the many years I have participated in viewing this great game and listening to all the nonsense that goes along with it I am concerned about respect and sportsmanship as it exists today. I know welcome to society.
Turning in the equipment hits home especially for those who play the game but the real hurt is for those who turn the page. Memories galore and friends for life from the HS game is the best prize. The trophies are great but the life lessons are better and how you carry yourself is the real number one.
How do you all deal with this end of season events? Not easy at all.
In the LWE family you have a head coach who is wrapping a season with his twin sons who dealt with injuries their senior year and could not leave it all on the field for that last HS game. That hurts. Injuries are a part of a physical game and believe me there are many more very talented athletes at both LWE and schools across the state in the same boat. Look forward friends and reach out and thank these athletes we watch weekly, monthly, and yearly as they develop into men.
Communities need these individuals and the inspiration they give to the youngsters in return is enormous.
Too old to take this all for granted but people like Edgy, WJOL, the crazy Joliet Catholic and Providence Catholic communities have really laid the groundwork for what we have in the immediate areas. Seeing once proud communities on the south side as programs erode is depressing for sure but we need to keep pedaling friends!
Sorry for the length of this one. Take care…and thank the Lord we have MS4Ever and Crossbones!

Finals predictions: Closest and Most lopsided title games

1A - Althoff -28
I REALLY didn’t like the way Lena looked vs Hope’s spread last year. This is hope on steroids.

2A - Chicago Christian - 3
Knights are this years team of destiny

3A - Montini - 42
3a south is no bueno

4A - DePaul - 4
I know nothing on either team. 😉

5A - Naz -3
Best game of the weekend

6A - ESL -4
I REALLY want to pick the Vikings but just can’t.
I’ll set the total points at 87 for this one.

7A - MC -28
I think Lynch has grown quite the distain for Batavia’s “one town one team” motto in protest of private schools and doesn’t call the dogs off.
Bulldogs will never be able to hang with Mt Carmel until they open up their offense.

8A - Loyola - 17
I do love to see a program lose their HC and then go further the next year. But this one will be all Ramblers.

Loyola (Hollywood) vs LW East (Beast)

So you’re saying she was a Catholic league supporter and sat on the LWE side??
Just kidding folks before attacking. This link got destroyed and taken down with comments already. I will post a summary of a fans perspective of the season thus far in a new area. Congrats to all the state qualifiers and competitors for making IL HS football what it is.

LA vs. York

I would advise anyone trying to make any predictions for Loyola vs York to NOT use this comparison. ESL rested several starters against Edwardsville in preparation to face IMG the following week. This occurred in other conference games as well. Beyond that, ESL and Edwardsville are conference rivals that are acclimated to each other’s tendencies. In contrast, we were fully loaded for Loyola. But if anyone so insists, go right ahead and disregard my caution.

Any time you use a common opponent their are flaws and not very accurate

Lt beat York 24-7
Nc beat Lt 24-7
York beat Nc 20-15

Finals predictions: Closest and Most lopsided title games

1A - will be closer than many think, if anyone can slow down Althoff it's Lena,
2A - coin flip, maybe MF gets the edge because they have been there but I'll take CC -2
3A - Montini will roll, it won't be close at any point in the game -32
4A - Mt. Zion seems like a team of destiny right now but DePaul played the tougher schedule, DP -6
5A - Naz should prevail but JCA will keep it close due to the styles of play of both teams
6A - ESL -24
7A - MC playing some good ball, will pull away late -16
8A - York battles tough but Loyola wins a closer than expected game -13

Loyola (Hollywood) vs LW East (Beast)

The ones a saw you blow into it. So annoying. This 5-6 year old blowing his brains out not even watching the game just blowing the stupid horn so it ruined everyone else’s experience. The parents sitting right there. Oblivious! I did give the mom a look and shook my head as I was leaving. Fools!
All I could hear on the stream was the foul mouthed lady.

That is what 5-6 year olds do. They don't watch any game you take them to. It is actually a reflection on the parents.

Success Factor/NAZ

Facts are facts, no reason for private schools who have won 8A Mount Carmel, 7A Naz, 6A JCA to ever play below those levels.

They aren’t recruiting inferior talent to those teams after winning titles, & are bringing in better talent & clearly are capable of winning at that higher level.
Schools also change over time. Carmel of Mundeline's one dominant team from 20 years ago says more than the past 10 where they weren't even playoff qualifiers for half the seasons? Ehhh.

Naz has a nice little playoff rivalry with Prairie Ridge that has spanned two classes. In many years the top to bottom talent isn't that different between 5A and 6A with some years 5A having the edge in talent. Some of the best teams in 3A and 4A are also clearly capable of competing at higher levels. Just as Prairie Ridge has dropped to 5A because of enrollment, private schools should adjust to enrollment changes.
