Park Ridge (Ill.) Maine East junior three star ranked offensive tackle recruit Yaser Al-Awadi (6-foot-8, 295 pounds) is fired up about his upcoming spring IHSA season which begins on Match 19th. Al Awadi also takes some time and digs into his thoughts on his recruiting process and more in this recruiting update.
"It just feels really good to be back in practice with my teammates," Al-Awadi said. "We started on Friday in pads and it's just nice to go out and hit people again. The team is looking nice so far and everyone is just happy to be back playing football ."
Al Awadi recapped his latest recruiting news.
"I've been talking a lot lately with Wyoming. Coach Polasek was at Iowa and now he's at Wyoming so we've been staying in touch. Texas Tech has also shown more interest in me. Coach (Eron) Hodges was at Purdue and now he moved over to Texas Tech. I'm still in touch with all of the schools who have offered me as well on a pretty regular basis. I also have some schools who are waiting to see my early spring video that have also stayed in touch."
Has Al Awadi started looking harder at his college options at all?
"I'm not in any hurry for right now, because a lot of schools have said they want to wait and see my video before they offer. I'm really excited already about the schools who have already offered me, but I also don't want to make too early of a decision and then maybe have regrets and miss out on a great opportunity. I mean I'll have a 6 week football season so once my spring season is over I'll start to really look harder at all of my options. I can see myself making a college decision sometime in either June or July."
So what factors is Al Awadi looking for in a potential college?
"I really want to play for a school that has a great coaching staff and people who know me and who I have a great relationship and trust. I want to play for coaches who want to get to know me on and off the field and a school that feels I'm a priority for them. Also I'm looking for a school that offers a great education and also has a great campus and facilities."
Yaser Al-Awadi has multiple scholarship offers.
My Take on Yaser Al Awadi recruiting: Al Awadi is a big athletic kid who is still a work in progress on some levels, but he's also greatly improved his overall game and his overall upside is also impressive. Al Awadi will get some serious looks from multiple Power 5 schools in a few weeks....and regardless of wins or losses his play will be highly watched and evaluated. Al Awadi has mentioned a few different schools who have caught his attention in the past but has since been relatively quiet lately. Once Al Awadi gets some video under his belt I get the feeling things will move fast, wither his overall recruiting will explode, and/or he will end up making a pretty quick decision. I definitely feel that the schools who came in early on him and offered could end up holding an advantage in landing him.
