And just like that we're at the end of another regular season. You'll note that this week's games are listed in ascending playoff importance.
Good to see 'twas merely a flesh wound for the Knights. A clanging brass ball noise is evident on the north side. And 8A sounds just fine on the west side.
In making your picks, please make no mention of any contest (including those in the Mt Greenwood neighborhoodie) of lesser importance. Shoodie anyone ignore this, you'll be docked a quarter point.
Finally, a reminder to any of you from all points south attending the game (or bars) in Wilmette: be particularly conscious of the neighbors. Hate may have no home here, but that doesn't apply to you and your empties.

Leo (1-7) @ Marian, Heights (3-5)
Spartans 48-14 Lions
M (3-5) @ ND (2-6)
Redhawks 35-8 Dons
SI (5-3) @ JC (6-2)
Hilltoppers 35-14 Wolfpack
SP (2-6) @ CoM (7-1)
Corsairs 36-14 Shamrocks
MCHS (5-3) @ SL (6-2)
Vikings 35-21 Broncos
SV (4-4) @ MA (2-6)
Lions 31-17 Cadets
DP (4-4) @ DLS (3-5)
Rams 35-34 Meteors
F (4-4) @ ICP (6-2)
Friars 27-26 Knights
BA (4-4) @ PC (4-4)
Celtics 34-14 Redwings
SF (6-2) @ Naz (4-4)
Roadrunners 35-28 Spartans
SR (5-3) @ BR (4-4)
Crusaders 27-21 Mustangs
MC (8-0) @ LA (9-0)
Ramblers 28-21

Tiebreaker: Pick the exact number of teams in the CCLESCC to make the playoffs.

Marian Catholic 42 Leo 15 (L +34): Heights would have been a problem in the playoffs. Instead, this could be a preview of a prep bowl game.

Marist 40 Notre Dame 7 (M -27) There's nothing to say about this

Joliet Catholic 38 Saint Ignatius 21 (SI +21): 2 squads just wanting to come out healthy

Carmel 37 Saint Patrick 13 (CoM -22): This Carmel team is going to be a problem in 5A

Saint Laurence 44 Montini 21 (SL -14): St. Laurence in 4A is...something that most 4A schools are not going to like

Saint Viator 30 Marmion 20 (M +14): The Lions will take care of business

De La Salle 33 DePaul 31 (DLS +1): Going with a tiny upset here only just because I want to

Immaculate Conception 42 Fenwick 34 (IC +1): Fenwick lost it all last week. The Insane Clown Posse has had this one circled.

Providence 28 Benet 7 (P -20) Provi will be just too much

Saint Francis 24 Nazareth 21 (SF +7): I should not bet against Naz, but I am the Buffoon and I will. Spartans save Class 5A from the Roadrunners.

Saint Rita 20 Brother Rice 16 (SR -6): An opportunity for the Ponies to send the Crusaders to the Prep Bowl? SR takes that opportunity!

Mount Carmel 28 Loyola 27 (MC +7): Going on a limb here and making this Buffoon's GOTW and GOTY. I am going to be a bit of a downer here and say this: I think this game would mean more if they were actually playing for a conference championship. Not this 3 game division thing. Regardless, it's going to be an awesome atmosphere and game that represents why high school football is so special.

A disappointing 12 CCL/ESCC teams make the playoffs

Debbie may not know it or refuse to believe it, but having Loyola in the neighborhood helps keep property values up. Likewise, when Obama dedicates his library, I wouldn't be surprised if he acknowledged Carmel as a good neighbor and a top-performing school in the area.

Leo - I think they can cover
ND - no reason they can't cover
SI - 6-3 in 8A is so much better than 5-4
CoM - nothing short of amazing for McK
MCHS - Jekyll and Hyde Broncs this year
SV - Lions getting stronger
DP - Rams 4A
F - clearly ICP isn't going to risk injury for actually winning
PC - will get this
SF - I see Naz' luck run out
BR - gets the friendly win
MC - covers and Ramblers emerge victorious

14 make it to the playoffs - good luck to all teams - and players: ignore the spread, play every down as if it's your last. Thanks for the fun!

MC of the Heights -34- MC is going to score at will and should be able to stop LEO who I'm sure is beat the hell by week 9.

Marist -27- ND looking for this season to end. Marist looking for that slim 4-5 chance of getting in.

SI +21- Lock of the week, they could actually win this, but I like JCA by 10.

CoM -22- I like them by 28

STL -14- Montini is threading downhill after a good start but should do well in 3A. Is Laurence RB hurt who came out of the SR game? If so it may be a lot closer.

SV -14- Marmion looking forward to wrestling season

DePaul -1- No love for these guys. Shoe in of the week!!!! Easy money.

Fenwick -1- Swimming against the stream on this one. Fenwick needs to W to get in, I think they win a tight one.

PC -20- PC by 21.

STF +7- I like NAZ to pull it off but I don't know if its by 7.

Rita +6- I like Rita by 10. Will Rice still get in at 4-5 and possibly face MC, if MC wins?

MC +7- MC beat ESL and beat SR and BR more handily then LA....LA has the Saturday Afternoon Home Field and a very talented tam on their side but need to take the Caravan when they get points.

14 Teams

Leo
Notre Dame
St. Ignatius
St. Patrick
Montini
Marmion
Gordon Tech
IC Prep
Benet
St. Francis
Brother Rice
Loyola

14 make IHSA. Anything 12 (50%) and over is a good # and exactly what this format/alignment was designed to produce.

15 teams and I’ll parlay that with no less than 4 titles!
I think 4 is a pretty good O/U. I would take the under on that bet. 7A is best bet, followed by 4A, 8A and then 5A IMO.
My thoughts:
8A-Loyola is maybe even money to win it. Iggy may win a first round game.
7A- Mt Carmel is the heavy favorite. Would be shocked if they did not roll through the playoffs.
6A- don't see any contenders
5A- I think SF has the best chance, followed by Carmel and JCA. Naz could make some noise if they get in. Pretty wide open field.
4A- ICCP is one of the favorites if they are healthy
3A- Montini could win a few games, but I dont see them as a title contender.

Should P I take J the drama J out of it P before the reveal?

The STL/Montini and Depaul/DLS scores were very surprising, IMO, especially the Depaul score.

I picked the wrong week to have an off week 😀
Plenty of titles left to pick up, ok two, playoff title called the playoff title, and the whole season title, called the whole season title.

I picked the wrong week to have an off week 😀
You asked about Aaron Ball Friday night, I apologize for not answering. He was a bull and was SL's offense. It appears that he got injured in the 3rd quarter (?) and I didn't see him again for the rest of the game. He had to be gang tackled to be taken down. Every time they gave him the ball, and it was most of the time, he was ripping off 3 or more yards.

Week 9 recap:

Congratulations to everyone! 9 straight weeks and we didn't get flushed. Proud of you.

STL705 went 10 for 12 on the week.

yeah, when par is 6.75 and you get 10, I'd say he Furyk'd the Travelers, he Kiptum'd the BoA Chicago Marathon, he Rock'd 2 big babys everything. Nice work.

PJJP won the regular season title. But we still have the all season title, the playoff title and the percentage correct title so if you haven't played yet, Week 10 is a great week to start.

Without further ado, the week 9 scoreboard
