St. Rita Playing up in 7A

Not really. If anything, I would say that's a lot of reasoning instead of just saying "no, they have not." Which would have been fine, since that is all I was curious about
🙄

St. Rita knows their Catholic brethren won't embarrass them by running up the score. "All gas and no brakes", on the other hand, will put a 57-7 score on an opponent. The Flyers have no brakes.
Is that how you think the CCL Blue teams roll? Doing one another favors with the scoreboard? I’d argue ESL could possibly walk into a buzzsaw playing CCL Blue defense along with a very capable St. Rita offense that loves to grind the clock. MC is 5-1 vs. ESL and St. Rita year after year plays MC very tough trading wins. Now tell me you picked Cary Grove a few years ago to topple the mighty ESL fellas!

Okay, okay, ha ha; I confess. I was just having some fun messing with some of the Catholic crowd. Please forgive me.

The truth is, in my deservedly humble opinion, I think St. Rita is just trying to do the responsible thing. They play in an 8A/7A division of the CCL/ESCC and have had some recent success in the 7A playoffs. So, I think they simply believe it would be the right thing to do to continue playing at that level in the coming playoffs. I salute them for their good and honorable intentions.

After next season MC will be success factored up to 8A and Flyer still 6A. Maybe Rita smarter then I thought LOL
you mean this season if they win state? if after next season, shoot I would strategically move up this season while the team have some horses and a QB for next 2yrs. no idea if the current FR/So have 8A talent (though i believe 7a is tougher)

If the Caravan win state this year, I believe they will still be in 7A for the 2024 season. In August of 2025, MC would be in 8A. Do I have it right for anyone in the know?

Good stuff, Alexander32. You had me for a minute there.

Assuming SR makes the playoffs, does anyone know the actual odds of her actually seeing MC in the playoffs.

I am not a mathematician. Someone good with the numbers, correct me if I'm wrong.

Here it goes: Since there are 32 teams in the field, Rita would have a 1/16 chance of seeing MC in R1? 1/8 chance of seeing MC in R2? 1/4 chance of seeing MC in the Quarters and a 1/2 chance of seeing the Caravan in the semis?

It's be the same odds for any team for that matter.

A school has to win a trophy (first or second in football) in both years of the 2 year cycle. The current cycle just started and includes the fall of 23 and 24. If MC wins a trophy this year and next, they go to 8A in 25. Otherwise, they don’t automatically get the success factor applied. The title in 22 is irrelevant as that was the second year in the previous cycle and they did not win a trophy in 21.

I wonder how it’s twisted logic when they barely beat ESL and didn’t score the last two quarters against MP? Last I check Rita has been competing against the best for some time now! It’s only fitting to continue to do so! #staytuned

Last year Mt. Carmel, Batavia, St. Rita and Lake Zurich made it to the 7A semifinals. There were only three possible combinations for the semifinal matchups.

I. Mt. Carmel vs. St. Rita and Batavia vs. Lake Zurich
II. Mt. Carmel vs. Batavia and St. Rita vs. Lake Zurich
III. Mt. Carmel vs. Lake Zurich and St. Rita vs. Batavia

Consequently, there was a 1/3 chance that Mt. Carmel would play St. Rita in the semifinal round.

Along the same lines of reasoning, there was a 1/31 chance of the two teams meeting in the first round; a 1/15 chance of them meeting in the second round; and a 1/7 chance of them meeting in the quarterfinals.

The chance of them meeting in any given year of the playoffs (no matter what round) is a very complicated calculation. And, since the calculation would be dependent on the various win probabilities of every team in the bracket, for every round of the bracket, and those win probabilities would be speculative, the result of the entire calculation would be speculative.

What a unique concept!

Playing up to your normal level of competition in the playoffs.

Yes, St Rita is doing the honorable thing. It would be easy to go trophy hunting in the lower levels (like JCA,, Montini and PC have done for years).

Thanks for being partof a growing trend on this board that agrees with me.

The answer is not all that simple. But, if they normally play teams in 1a nd 2a, it's legit. Beating one 7a team isn't all that much, by itself. I don't know how Maine East and Niles East are doing this year, but normally, they're pretty unsuccessful - plus, they're rather large, I believe. Should one of them lose to really good 1a team, well, that's ho it goes sometimes.

BTW, you guys need to quit hiding behind that old "my conference won't let us" baloney excuse and play up.to your capabilities. I'd love to see you in 7a. If you beat us there, you'd have a trophy to be really talk about.

Niles East closed about 44 years ago but I’m sure if they were still open they’d celebrate a 1A state championship like it was the Super Bowl.

St. Rita already went trophy hunting. Rochester caught them like a loss prevention specialist.

Providence has not won anything of note since "petitioning up" even became an option. And petitioning up only became an option on the tail end of Montini's run of dominance.

Would love to see MC take a page from LA's book and play 8A. Though only a select few really ever petition up at all. Major kudos to LA and ESL for always seeking out the highest classification they are reasonably allowed to pursue.

But their tough choice and attitude does not at all diminish what we see from ICCP, MC, and the vast majority of others that play in their normal classification.

This has been confirmed countless times that it is a league rule that ESL cannot petition up anymore. It is not a rule in the CCL and some choose to but MC does not.

Yes, it's a league rule. I understand, and I might be wrong, that the league allows other schools to petition up. If I'm wrong, let me know. If I'm right, the school should consider a lawsuit.

Regarding MC, we're already playing at our level. We play an average of 7a teams. That's where we are and should be. We might wind up in 8a,. and that's fine with me. We'd be the tiniest school in that level.

What's the school that's next to Old Orchard shopping center?

I’m hearing rumors that if you guys win again this year you’re going to be success factored up to the Big Thirty Four or whatever it is they’re calling that league nowadays?!?!

You confuse me with a shopping enthusiast? Didn’t we discuss you getting into the Modelo’s too early last week?

MC is already in the right category.

Does LA qualify for 7a if they wanted? I dunno.

How many years have you guys been playing down in the post season? How many participation trophies have you won?

Filing suit in Saint Clair County would go over like a fart in church. Now, if the IHSA chose to intervene, that might have more legs.

Your confference is forbidding your school to reach its full potential. That could cost your players an equal opportunity for a scholarship at a higher profile univesity. That, in turn, potentially hurts not only their pro opportunities, but careers off-the-field, as well.

Lawsuit? Why not start barking now and alert the powers that be that they need to wake up. The IHSA might be a good means, as well. Either one should include affirmative action.
