Deerfield (Ill.) junior three star ranked athlete recruit Joshua Maize (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) is nearing 10 offers this spring as more and more schools have discovered Maize on the spring evaluation recruiting trail.
"It's been a really fun last few weeks." Maize said. "I have 9 offers right now and I'm also drawing a lot of interest from several other schools. I'm pretty sure we've seen over 20 coaches in school over the past few weeks."
Maize runs down his recent visitors.
"Over the past week we've seen the coaches from Indiana, Cincinnati, Illinois and Penn State in school. Western Michigan is coming to watch me workout on Tuesday. Most of the bigger schools see me as either a bigger inside linebacker or as a smaller rush defensive end. The coaches who have watched me workout have liked my overall quickness at defensive end. I played only linebacker last year so the schools want to see how well I can play off the edge."
Maize also has a handful of favorites.
"I really like UConn. They offered me a scholarship recently and I like the combination of academics along with a high level of football. Miami of Ohio is another school I've heard great things about and I plan to visit them soon. Central Michigan was my second offer and I also like them quite a bit ."
Yet if the Big 10 school come calling could that list of favorites change?
"Sure id some of the bigger schools like the Big 10 decide to offer me I would reconsider my list of favorites. I'm open to it for now but I'm also not planning to wait around forever. I have some great opportunities already ."
Any upcoming camps for Maize?
"I'm going to the Rivals Camp this Saturday in Kansas City and then the Nike camp on Sunday. I'm also considering going to the Irish Invasion camp this summer at Notre Dame."
Maize also has a time frame for making his college choice.
"I'm looking to make my decision sometime between early June and early July."
