I was at NCC on Tuesday the first of three satellite camps for the Naperville based school. This camp featured the Minnesota staff along with coaches from Illinois State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, University of Indianapolis among others.
Numbers? Again not great numbers roughly 120-130 kids...perfect numbers yet surprising so far how overall numbers seem to be a bit down so far. The good here was that Minnesota had several of it's current commits work out which added to the overall talent level.
Again at this stage my main time and focus is spent watching 2019 and 2020 kids yet I was also able to see some 2018's who stood out.
Class of 2018
OL Rashaun Schandon Eisenhower- huge kid (6-foot-5, 318 pounds) on the hoof who moved pretty decently. Has a lot to work on is very raw but just his overall size and potential will land him say D2/NAIA level offers.
WR Charles Robinson Waubonsie Valley- big time player who again did well here. Added an offer from Minnesota after the camp and rightfully so. Robinson worked here as a wide receiver but will be a TE at the Power 5 level. Finally good to see a Big Ten offer in for Robinson here.
DB Tyrik Henderson Glenbard North- One of the Gopher recruits who worked out here. Always comes to play and is always on top of his game. Looks to be ready for another huge season in 2017.
DB Jabari Fitzpatrick Glenbard North- again Jabari is just a grinder type who goes hard at all times. Only concern is his overall size but I feel he has a real chance to play D2/high NAIA. Good speed/ball instincts here.
DL Noah Stuart Peoria ND- good sized kid (6-foot-2, 221 pounds) who moves well and looked strong in various speed/agility work. Will no question keep and eye here on Stuart and also go back and watch his video.
RB Ryan Young Wheaton South- again I've seen Ryan a few times live now and Young has good szie/speed and passes the eyeball test no question. Measured in at 5-10, 197 pounds and is yet another name who could break out this fall.
RB Jerome Keaton East Aurora- passed the eyeball test (5-foot-10 1/2 175 pounds) and was good in drill and speed/agility work at the camp. Would like to see a bit more in more one on one settings this summer.
LB BJ Graves Jr. Oswego East- big thick kid (5-foot-11, 235 pounds) who moves pretty well for hi ss size and is always on the move and hustling. Not sure what position he will play at the next level but Graves has a great work ethic who I can see more than a few coaches taking a chance on him later this fall.
DL Finn Marino Mather- big sized kid here (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) who's a bit raw but who also has a chance to open up some eyes this summer. Has the frame to add more weight down the line and Marino moved well here.
DT Noah Shannon Oswego- Another name who was committed to Minnesota but who recently decommitted. Shannon was his dominant self here and was nearly unblockable in one on one sessions at the camp.
QB Brendon Marton Streamwood- Marton isn another kid from Streamwood who looked good here Has good size (6-foot-4, 186 pounds) andn showed some decent mobility. Wanted to see more here but what I did see no question was worth looking into him more this summer.
WR Jayshon Jackson Simeon- committed to Cincinnati but this is a kid who loves to just go out and compete. Impressed various coaches here with his quickness/feet and overall speed. I've felt from Day 1 that Jackson has the ability/skills to play at the Big Ten level.
LB Joe Bonds DeLaSalle- WMU commit. Bonds has added a ton of size this off season and it no question linebacker size now for the college level. Measured in at 6-foot-2, 211 pounds and Bonds just moves well, has good overall instincts and I feel has been a bit under recruited and I feel could play at a lower/mid tier Big Ten level.
DB Derric Lee Waubonsie Valley- second camp in tow days and still performed well here. For more on Lee see my recap from Monday.
WR Tyler Jamagin Herscher- has good size (6-foot-0, 185 pounds) and length (74 inch reach) who was solid ion drill and positional work.
DB Byron Perkins DeLaSalle- One of the kids who I'm waiting to see blow up in recruiting circles because Perkins as a lot to offer. Perkins has good size (6-foot-2, 173 pounds) who also has shown good overall skills and athletic potential this off-season.Has a Purdue offer and I would not be shocked to see more Big Ten's look harder at him this summer.
DB Josh Schodipo Oswego- second NCC camp in two days here for Josh. Did well again see more on him from my Monday recap.
RB Kriston Davis Belleville West- another second day camper who stood out here.
DB Giavion Mason Bishop McNamara- another kid who I look at here as someone who doesn't have nearly the amount of recruiting looks than I expected. Mason is just a good overall athlete, has good size (6-foot-0, 203 pounds) who could play S/OLB at the next level. Has FCS level skills and abilities.
LB Cortez Hogan Palatine- still one of the more intriguing kids to me at this camp. Has good size/length (6-foot-2 1/2 195 pounds) who will also add more weight/size at the college level. I could also see him play say OLB/DE if needed? Regardless Hogan has a ton of FCS level offers and has a chance to add more higher level offers.
LB Edwardo Gonzales Nazareth- really good player here. Decent size (6-foot-0, 205 pounds) who a bit of a tweener positionally. Has the size to play OLB but seems to me as more on an inside backer yet regardless will draw more looks at say the D2/NAIA level this summer.
OT Evan Lewis Crystal Lake Central- maybe the bigger kid in the camp (6-foot-9, 308 pounds) who has p[layed football for just a few years now. Still incredibly raw and still has a ton of work to do. However, moved pretty well for his size and based off his overall size/length (82 1/2 inch wingspan) I can see say D2 schools look pretty hard. Also having a shortage of true OT types also benefits Lewis here.
OL Sean Stanton Hinsdale Central- The Red Devils always seem to be blessed with good sized OL type and that includes Stanton. Measured in at 6-foot-4, 273 pounds and overall had a very strong camp performance here. Could definitely play at the FCS level and word is that Stanton has high level academics as well.
WR Victor Akinyemi Marian Catholic- very intriguing kid here. Has very good size (6-foot-1, 207 pounds) and is also a high level athlete type. Could play say WR/S/OLNB at the next level. Really impressed me with his work ethic and ball skills and has a real chance to play at the FCS level.
DL Bryant Smith Palatine- intriguing kid on several levels. Has size (6-foot-5, 215 pounds) and length and at times can show so real explosion. Only real issue I saw was Smith could be a bit more consistent in positional work and one on ones but the upside is there no question. Has some D1 offers and several FCS offers as well this summer.
