Im gonna go with Mt Carmel. Pretty sure I read they have something like 9 kids with power 4 offers. In addition, it seems like they have more talent transferring in than LSU.
Mount Carmel. Loaded with D1 talent.

LWE will score a lot with Williams and their new WR. How's their line? How's their defense?
MC has the most D1 talent the school has ever had, but they have a new QB and this offense depends on the QB. Good news is the Secondary has 2 starters and a couple more with playing time last season back this year. Bad news is they let up a ton of yards last year, but aim guessing that will improve. New DC this year.
LA is Loyola but they lost a lot of noteable names as well. I know they reload but this will be the decent amount on the reload.

I’ve noticed they have not had the same level of success on the lower levels the last few years as has been their standard. Is it fair to wonder if there might be a drop in the talent level hitting the varsity the next few years?
I would counter with, wondering if they have had more kids playing up than historically? Just a thought.
Mt Carmel has to be with 9 kids with Power 4 offers. Besides most of the starters from last year are returning. Most were underclassman that played strong against upperclassmen of other teams. The secondary is looking very good with the likes of Braden Jones, Joey Quinn, Caleb Tucker, Tavares Harrington and many more top prospects.

DGN and Batavia are the odds on favorite in 7A. Possibly BR if they move back to 7A. SR has a punchers chance. I don't know who they return but Normal gave MC all they can handle and are always very good
Unfortunately 3 of the key pieces of the puzzle that made normals special are graduating

OLB Jase Lemar Wilson will be joining him there

Maybe they put his receiving yards. I know MCs defense was pretty generous last year but they were pretty solid against the run and this kid ran for nearly 200 off them so I know he had more then 500 on the year so I found his X profile

As you know, rarely easy paths in the playoffs. Minefields everywhere. Don't forget CG and I think Naz. Not to mention the Sequiots of Antioch

Knowing Batavia, though, they don't care. They will take on anyone. In the end, they could petition up.

Doesn't SR usually go to 7A voluntarily and then JCA still 5A?
All.... JCA gets the success factor this year along with Nazareth into 6A. If I recall correctly the Mustangs in the past have petitoned up into a higher class. They will have if the rule has not changed until the first week of September to submit that request. 7A for them might be the way to go with a loaded 6A and Mt. Carmel now having to play in class 8A. I'd be very surprised if Rita does NOT petition up to 7A. I agree with McCaravan's assessment: they will have a solid team that can do quite well in 7A playoffs. The game against BR will be a true sign of where the Mustangs will be come playoff time.
They are going to be good. Their QB was a problem for SF last year and I know they have a good amount of kids back.
In the end, if they get above-average line play, they'll be really good. I think they will be young on the lines.

This whole petitioning up thing is so weird. When LA did it to 8A a few years back, all it did was rob the state of a MC-LA playoff matchup.
I could certainly see teams petitioning up to 7A to avoid 6A. If a few petition up and push Batavia down I assume most would rather take their chances with the 7A field over the Batavia, ESL, CG, Naz, JC, Geneva, etc gauntlet of 6A. There are certainly legitimate teams in 7A, but it doesn't seem as top heavy for sure, especially with MC and LA up and Batavia with an outside shot of bumping down to 6A.
Just like LA a few years ago opting to 8A, Batavia could opt to 7A and likely increase their odds of winning the title. In fact, they are likely the 7A favorite, which they would not be in 6A. The petitioning up just seems so strange to me because of the possibility for gamesmanship. To be fair, I don't think it happens often. In fact, the only schools that tend to do it (ESL when they could, LA, SR, etc) seem to do it out of wanting to play higher competition. But the reality is that it doesn't always happen that way and some years it is a net negative when those teams do it.
I think you are looking at the petition from a different point of view. When ESL started petitioning up to 7A, it was to maintain the class that they had competed in since the 8 class system was put in place. At the time, this board crucified ESL and called the coaches arrogant for not wanting to play 6A. The petition wasn't used to avoid a specific team nor create a favorable lane for a championship. In '13 and '14 ESL had two of their worse teams in recent memory and made it to the semi's and Qtr's with a 6-3/ 5-4 regular season record. I am sure LA felt the same way after competing in 8A for all those years. If the conference was ESL would pretty much stay 7A for ever.
On the other hand, I can see some teams opting to move higher to avoid certain teams in the playoffs. So far that trend hasn't started yet but we will see what the future holds.
It certainly raises the question of "motive"? I am excluding LA/SR/ESL (if I missed a team apologies) from that as they have done it for awhile or when they fell from their "historical" class.
