Peoria Vs naz

I don't think naz has given up more than 1 td from the 1's each of the last 7 weeks.

Well shit I better get to church I guess.

I just got back from Mass and lit a couple candles. I don't know though, they probably shouldn't even make the trek down there seems like there is no question asked a new king has been crowned in 5A....wait what happened to the previously prematurely crowned king of 5A?

I have not seen Peoria yet so I truly do not know who is the favorite. I just know historically, and what has proven to be true again this season, that it gets harder and harder to be a seller of Naz and Racki the deeper they go in the season. No one thought they'd play a 10th game at 2-4, yet there they were in week ten. No one thought they'd be able to beat Boylan's stout D especially on a windy day, yet there they were and surely no one thought they'd get past Sycamore (a very good team) a team that gave up virtually nothing all season and seemed to score at will on teams especially in the wind and weather, yet...here there are and again there is a mountain being placed in front of them that everyone seems to believe is impossible I hope they continue their roll

Do you really believe that nobody believed they would move the ball on Boylan and nobody believed they would beat sycamore???

Do you read this board? The overwhelming consensus seemed to be Naz was favored over Boylan and the Naz-Sycamore game was a toss up/pick ‘em.

The majority on the board seemed to have it pegged correctly. Perhaps you let one or two outlier predictors cloud your memory?

I mean, feel free to play the us against the world and we’re an underdog card all you want. But that was only objectively true midway through the regular season. All postseason long, Naz has been seen by the masses as one of the few 5A schools with a chance to win it.

"Impossible"? Normal West held Peoria to six points.

JCHillmen beat me to the punch. This tuccs guy here trying to go all Knute Rockne and win one for the gipper. Sure, Naz was 5-4 but they were far from big underdogs in 5A. I think they are the favorite next weekend.

No.
Yes.
Perhaps.
Thank you.

I was actually going for more of a Lou Holtz type approach but ya got me! 😬

Now McEvergreen I need to call you out on this because you’ve had Naz painted as dead and buried multiple times including in this very thread. I had guys telling me all last week on this site that Naz was a 10-14 point dog and when I tried to get them to bet for charity they all ran away. I called this past saturdays game Naz -3 either Wednesday or Thursday and not a peep. Just everyone be honest I’m part of the original posse I can handle it…!

Not sure why you quoted my post and then called out McEvergreen, but I would like to get in on some of this action. None of the IHSA games show up on my Sportsbook apps.

Doc,

You got quotes because McEvergreen liked your post.

Regarding the bets it was something I’ve done with other posters but proceeds always paid to the charity of the winners choice.

Gotcha. Interesting idea with the charity aspect, but I was more looking at trying to put together a 4 or 5 team parlay.
BTW I haven’t looked at Calpreps yet, but I got Naz as an early touchdown favorite.

I watched Nazareth play Boylan and sycamore. In my opinion Tim Racki and his coaching staff are the difference. He puts his kids in a position to be successful. For example, at the quarterback position he doesn’t ask the kid to be a drop back passer and throw it all over the field. Instead he uses the kids athleticism to sprint out and make high percentage throws. I think he is very good at knowing what his personnel is and then developing a game plan

I did pick Sycamore to beat Naz, but that in no way was disrespect for Naz. I personally think they have one of the best programs in the state. What makes me laugh is when someone picks against someone else's team, the someone else usually takes it as a personal attack on their team lol. It's the furthest thing from the truth.

My only post on this thread: "Hope Peoria stops themselves with penalties and turnovers lol"

Translation while laughing: Naz better keep the Peoria offense off the field.

The key to stopping them is stopping their running back. Washington hunts for contact and get better as the game goes on.
Has he been stopped by anyone outside of Mother Nature in the rain? I only ask because should Naz find a way to stop him or go up early how does their passing game look?

I haven't watched much Peoria this year, but Mascoutah kept him pretty contained for the first half in the quarterfinals.
When forced to throw, they ran a lot of quick screens and the big bodies they have makes that a challenge to stop. Their quarterback hit some nice deep balls and their receivers ran some nasty routes to be wide open at times.

Their passing game is good they have 2 real good speedy Receivers and their fullback can also catch passes out the backfield . It’s mostly play action passes tho . Never really straight drop back

Oh yeah I forgot to mention they throw a lot of quick screens.

So I just watched the entire Morris game from yesterday. My take away was that Peoria false started on about 30% of their offensive plays and it wasn’t called. They consistently have players going into motion and not coming to set for at least a second or moving towards the LOS. I was shocked it wasn’t flagged in a semi final game. Also saw linemen coming out of their set and no flag. I would expect this changes at the title game.

The Running back is good, certainly enjoys contact, and looked like a load to bring to the ground. I do believe he is certainly going to be a focus of stopping Peoria in the upcoming game.

Peoria’s lines are substantial but not unlike what Naz has played against for years, so while they are certainly a Peoria strength I’ll call it a push.

If Peoria elects to play man press on Saturday with no safety help, I believe they will find it challenging to walk away with a win.

I need to watch a lot more film before I’m ready to make a game call, but to the OP who would like to be a fly on the wall to see the coaches reaction to yesterdays game…they will always be respectful, but they have seen equal or better in the past that they had to game plan for in a state title game.

You should watch some of their game against normal west . That’s the game they lost

Any thoughts?
I’ve watched about half the game and the Refs remain consistently gentle to Peoria and the big guy appears to be the same in both games, perhaps even the whole crew.

Peoria is pretty one dimensional offensively from what I see in both games and certainly plays a risky form of defense against a team that has a dynamic offense.

Tell us how you see this game between Peoria and Naz next week play out, the victor, and point spread?

I watched some of naz’s game against sycamore and their run defense is pretty good but I still think Peoria will be able to run the ball effectively because of that Oline .Malachi Washington just has surpassed 3000 yards and I just don’t see Naz’s front being able to slow him down . Naz is gonna be able to get the passing game going against this defense if they decide to stick with their cover 0 defense . I doubt that they’re gonna be able to run on Peoria though. It’s gonna be key for Naz to stop Peoria from getting the 2point conversions. Ultimately I think that this game is gonna be a shootout and it’s hard to beat Peoria in a shootout so my final prediction is peoria 42 Naz 28

I’m intrigued why you think Naz won’t be able to run on Peoria?

Because morris wasn’t really able to and they’re known for their run game so I’m just assuming Naz won’t be able to either but I might be wrong . And peorias Dline is also gets in the backfield with ease . But I was thinking and realized that the only common opponent both teams have is kankakee but that was at the start of the season for Naz so I can’t really bring up that game

You might be underestimating Naz’s D and their Run Game. They are not one dimensional.

That said if you’re giving me Naz +16 let’s make a wager and pay the proceeds to the winners favorite charity.

In my opinion Tim Racki and his coaching staff are the difference. ... I think he is very good at knowing what his personnel is and then developing a game plan
Tim is a savant in these regards. And I'm not just saying that because my fawning for the program [and heck Tim himself]. For years I've appreciated this trait of his, specifically on the front seven. He coaches a diverse group with new skills and traits each year to great success. It's because he teaches them the mindset and fundamentals, which apply no matter who you are.

He then finds places for kids be successful. Not forcing them into boxes. Most coaches would put kids at positions based off physical traits, LBs that are 6-3 200 across the board, etc... despite maybe less prowess. Tim will start a 5-9 170 pounder who is a playmaker and always sees the game.

Ok I'm still confused as to how this has worked. Do they really not punt at all? Like 4th and long from own 17 are they still not punting? Maybe they just never find themselves in 4th and long from their own 17 but what if they do? Do they really just stay in press all day no help over the top? This one is even more baffling as you'd think they would have seen their fair share of passing attempts from their opponents with the scores they put up so how are they doing that? Playing schools with lack of talent in the passing game or just have 5 lockdown guys that never get tired?

They punt sometimes but that’s once in a blue moon . Against Mascoutah they were on their 8 yard line and I think it was 4th and 4 and they went for it that’s not a 4th n long but that just shows you the mentality that have . And I’d say they play pressman with no help over the top like 90% of the time . They only have a safety in if it’s 3rd and long or 4th and long . Their dbs don’t get tired and are lockdown guys but get a Lot of Pi’s as you’d expect . The weak link on their defense is their 5’5 corner but he’s super fast and is lockdown as well
