While I believe in, “if you don’t want me to score...stop me” mentality, especially coming from a Maine South guy...I just saw IHSA scorezone post Peoria 96-Champaign Centennial 14.
This seems like it runs into the stealing 2nd and 3rd base when up 15-0 in baseball.
Seems like a classless move either trying to score 100, or beat someone that bad...
Unless the last kid on the bench broke TD’s on long runs for the last 5 scores, this stinks to me

Didn't they lose a game recently that they scored 70 points in?

Bones, that has nothing to do with a score like this. I think they lost something like 70-56 when they had Hess a couple years back. Game is not in question when you are up 60...let alone 82

Take a knee already!!
Don’t think you take knees if they were up 40 or 50 in 3rd qtr, and if somehow last back ups on roster scored TD’s on inside runs for last 40 points, then so be it. Would never tell a 3rd stringer to take it easy, or the 5th running back to not run hard...

This garbage is routine with them. They’ve rubbed a lot of opposing coaches the wrong way. There’s a handful of WB6 schools that will never play Peoria. I definitely believe in sports karma, what goes around usually comes back around at some point.

Amen! I know nothing about the program(other than stud RB and QB 2 years back), but do they have a young head coach that is looking for attention from other 5A-6A teams?

He’s been there awhile now.
Rubbish. A real classless move. Even if it’s your biggest rival, winning by 40 would send the message of dominating. 82 just makes your program look like A-holes. I hope LWE or HF reach out for a game and run it up...Which I actually don’t because no HS kid deserves to be embarrassed in that way

I was just wondering because I thought I remembered it.

It's classless. With the new 40 second play clock, they could easily have slowed this game down. There are plenty of ways of keeping the score down as well.

Clock should have started in first half. Yeah the rule is half, but I have been in games were clock started in second quarter.

Sorry to say this, but that's total BS. These are HS kids on both sides of the ball. One of the objectives of having a football program at any school is to teach these kids how to be good members of their communities and society in general. At some point in a game, a coach can start teaching humility and humanity towards others. You just bring your kids together and freaking tell them that they've won the game and there is no reason to humiliate the other team. Slow down between downs and look for the sidelines during plays...whatever.

I started this thread saying it is garbage to get to this score. I was being coy to the fact they likely weren’t running dive plays and not running the clock down. I stand by my point that it is more embarrassing to the opponent to start taking knees in the 3rd quarter and punting. Put the last guys on the bench in, and run up the middle...

Ok I think we agree. There are lots of things a coach can do to slow down his team and mitigate the score. There are good HS coaches in IL that would be embarrassed if their team rang up that much scoring on another group of HS kids. The players in Peoria deserve a better coach and teacher. The guy they have is a tool bag.

Yep. When the clock starts running, the officials will usually look the other way and let the play clock go a little longer by swallowing their whistles on delays of game. Realistically, you can get out of a quarter running about 15 to 18 total plays once the clock starts running.

Losing team needs to milk the clock to help themselves but the winning team had better milk it too and take a good 60 seconds between dive plays for the backups.

Both Normal (last season) and Normal West (yesterday) have put up +60 on Peoria...Should be an interesting game in week 9 when they host Normal Community....
