Best two way player in IL history?

Mike Pilger, SHG. 93/94 with his best season in '94 because he had a better throwing qb that season. He was unstoppable as a wide out, catching 95 percent of anything thrown his direction. He was the go to guy for what I called an automatic touchdown. As a db he was just as likely to end up with the ball as the receiver he was defending was. He was fast, had incredible hands and strength, and just had "it". If not for being injured early in the semi-final game against Belvidere, SHG wins the state title that season. A just fun to watch, couldn't wait to get to the game type of player for the fans. Ended up going to South Florida I believe and played baseball there, which I believe was his sport of choice.

All.... My pick as well. Please don't bring up the Belvidere semi again that one still hurts. 🤕😱 Ratsy

Consider this 3-way player deserving mention. Brian Wise (Tinley Park's 1986 State Champions) had insane receiving yards and TD stats off a play-action passing game from I-Backs. He played OLB with distinction including intercepting an option pitch behind the LOS for a TD before going to Iowa as a starting SS. He returned the opening KO 90 yards for a TD in the State Title game and long-snapped for all punts.
Off the gridiron in HS, I saw him win gold in the open 100m and 4x1 at the conference track meet plus dunk on a breakaway in a basketball game (6-2, 215 pounds).

My vote Dergo.

But I want to throw a name in here, Greg Turner from Driscoll who was the player who was the catalyst and set the tone for the school to win 7 state titles in a row.

I will do my Palatine duty...Mike Burden.
"Prepped at Palatine High School where he played tailback, linebacker and safety … Ferocious hitter who tallied 150 tackles, three interceptions and 13 sacks as a senior … Rushed for 1,398 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior and 2,893 his final three years with 52 TDs "

He still gets my vote, with Dergo a very close 2nd.
Greg Williams possessed a very high Football IQ, uncanny patience and snap, .... right into unrivaled acceleration and then within 3 strides he was at full speed --- on both sides of the ball.
When did Greg Williams play at JCA? Name is not familiar

Tommy Z.

At Buffalo Grove, he played quarterback where he set the school records in scoring (202 total points), and rushing (2357 yards, 7.4 average, 32 tds). And he was better at FS.
