WSC Wk 6 Pick 'Em

Week 6 showcases 2 games that will likely decided the conference champions.

DGS at Hinsdale South will help decided the Gold. DGS wins, they likely get to 6 wins and win the head-to-head tie-breaker with Willowbrook. If Hinsdale South wins, they likely get to 5-4 and a playoff birth, and Willowbrook likely wins the confrerence.

In the Silver, York at Downers Grove North will decide the Silver. Both are 5-0, and the winner likely ends up 9-0, and the loser 8-1. And because I'm a homer, Glenbard West visits Hinsdale Central. Glenbard West has struggled on offense while their defense has been solid. HC has struggled on defense while their offense has been solid. And since this is essentially a playoff game for HC - they have to win out to get to 5 wins - this could be a favorable match-up.

Games are below - Good Luck!

Wk 6 September 29
Proviso West (0-5) @ Addison Trail (3-2)
Leyden (1-4) @ Morton (1-4)
Downers Grove South (2-3) @ Hinsdale South (2-3)
Willowbrook (3-2) @ Proviso East (1-4)
York (5-0) @ Downers Grove North (5-0)
Glenbard West (3-2) @ Hinsdale Central (1-4)
Lyons Township (3-2) @ Oak Park-River Forest (1-4)

CS8 Predictions-Week 6

Five Friday and one Saturday contest this week. Jacksonville at Lincoln has playoff implications, but the clear game of the week is SHG at Chatham. The rest of the conference will be watching SHG-Chatham closely. There may be a fair number of Rocket fans at the game since Rochester does not play until Saturday.

Friday
Urbana (0-5) at U High (4-1)
U High should win easily, clinching a playoff spot and tying the CS8 and Big 12 series at 4-4. The Pioneers have been the surprise of the conference. Kudos to Coach Walworth. The question for U High is how many more wins are realistic after this week. They should be favored to get at least 6 victories but 7 and even 8 are possible. U High 50 Urbana 0

Southeast (0-5) at Springfield (1-4)
Springfield has to win out to make the playoffs and can't look ahead to Week 7 on the road at Normal West. Southeast has yet to win but did score 26 points in both their losses to U High and Lincoln and is showing some improvement from the beginning of the season. As long as Springfield takes care of the ball, they should get their second win. Springfield 32 Southeast 16

MacArthur (2-3) at Eisenhower (1-4)
I've been wrong three times about Mac so far this season, picking them to win against Jacksonville and U High and to lose to Chatham. Not expecting to be wrong this week. This should be a big game for RB Johnson-Cook. Mac's playoff hopes likely to come down to Week 9 at Bloomington. MacArthur 45 Eisenhower 6

Jacksonville (2-3) at Lincoln (4-1)
Lincoln is one win away from making the playoffs for the first time since 1984. However, they have played an extremely favorable schedule so far. They close against Jacksonville, Rochester, U High, and Chatham. This is likely their best chance to get the 5th win, at home with hopefully an excited crowd. The Railers have been a run-first team, relying on the Carson twins for most of their offense. Jacksonville has lost three in a row, including a tough 27-22 contest last week against Peoria Notre Dame. The Crimsons led into the 4th quarter before the Irish scored the last 2 TD's. Jacksonville did get their QB Mani Moore back last week after missing most of the last two games and it made a difference. As long as Jacksonville can withstand a quick start by the Railers, they should come out on top in a close one. The Crimsons also need this game badly if they want to have a chance at making the playoffs. Jacksonville 31 Lincoln 22

SHG (4-1) at Chatham (4-1)
Chatham's 14-12 loss to Mac last week takes a little excitement away from this match up but it's still an important rivalry game. Chatham has shown a conservative mostly run between the tackles approach this season. It worked until last week. The time has arrived to see how far their Sophomore QB has progressed and throw the ball more. The Titan's defense has only allowed an impressive 26 points this season. However, I don't expect them to be able to hold the SHG offense to the 14 they gave up last week. SHG has shown more big play ability than Chatham, both on the ground and in the air. I believe RB Christian Pollard is the difference maker in this contest. He has 10 or so TD's the last three weeks and had an impressive 50+ yard score last week on a screen pass that looked like it was going nowhere. Chatham can't fall behind too far early and also won't win with their point production of last week. If SHG has a quick start that quiets the home crowd and avoids turnovers, they should win. I don't expect this, though, to be a running clock situation that occurred last season. SHG 27 Chatham 16

Saturday
Rochester (5-0) at Lanphier (0-5)
This will be my first trip to the renovated Memorial Stadium. Hoping the parking situation is better than I've heard. Lanphier has really struggled this season, particularly on defense. Rochester will try to get a running clock quickly and get the reserves in by the 2nd quarter. Rochester 57 Lanphier 6

Next Up: Linebackers

WB6 and TRAC Week 6 look ahead.

Bit late this week with the post. Busy week of school along with my middle school team having 2 games instead of 1 @.@.

WB6 Week 6

Geneseo over Sterling: Sterling has won the last 8 meetings of this rivalry, but with how both teams have looked this year, I think Geneseo will roll that counter back to zero. I know it’s a rivalry game and you throw everything out the window, but Geneseo has been a team on a mission, and Sterling looked meh against Princeton last week. Leafs celebrate a three score homecoming victory.

Quincy over Galesburg: Another game where Quincy puts up lots of yards and lots of points and gets the starters out as soon as they can. Im sorry Galesburg fans, but the string of being thumped in games continues.

United Township over Rock Island: I think this should be a pretty good game. Rock Island has played tough defense, but struggles to move the ball. UT has been decent on both sides of the ball. I think the key in this one will be UT QB Mathew Kelly. He stays upright and has time to work his magic, UT wins this one.

Moline receives a forfeit win over Alleman.

TRAC Week 6

Princeton over Kewanee: Big time battle here! Unbeaten Boilermakers and one loss Tigers. While this should be a heck of a game, Princeton has played a harder schedule and is at home, so im giving the nod to them. Would be huge for Kewanee going forward if they can pull the upset and prove me wrong.

Morrison over Sherrard: Despite the records, I think this game will be a close fought contest. Sherrard is a pretty solid under .500 team. Sadly their super tough schedule continues against an undefeated Morrison squad who will start to pull away in the 4th.

Newman over Bureau Valley: Two very tough teams looking to make that push to the postseason. Newman has been on fire as of late and has arguably one of the best defenses in the area. This will be a close, low scoring game where Newman’s defense gets a score to power the Comets to a win and playoff eligibility.

Hall over Illinois Valley Central: Neither team has proved good this season, but Hall has been able to get some wins. Red Devils claim their third win of the season.

Mendota over Riverdale: The Battle of teams seeking their first win of the season. It will be hard fought, it will be ugly, it might even have something weird happen, but Mendota gets win number 1 of the season.

Rockridge over Monmouth-Roseville: Rockridge is playing at near top of the conference level of football, having rattled off 4 straight convincing wins against some decent competition. MR met the top of the conference last week in Morrison and it wasn’t pretty. The Rockets get the win but the Titans keep it close as they are showing to be a better road team than home team.

Orion over Erie-Prophetstown: Orion is reeling from 3 straight losses but gets a good chance to right the ship this week against an 0-5 EP team who has yet to find much success on either side of the ball. Orion wins this one comfortably.

ICE week 6

Getting to the point in the year where a lot of the games play are huge. I see 2 potential GOTW options. Heck, even the Streator/Lisle game could be one just because I honestly have no idea who will win, however the postseason implications is not an issue in that one. Either way should be a fun week!

Coal City (4-1) @ Reed-Custer (2-3) - After week 1 the Coalers have been rolling. Reed-Custer played Wilmo better than I anticipated. I actually think next week is the biggest matchup for the COMETS. RC will give a great effort this week, but CC will be too much for them. Next week is also huge for the green and gold. Maybe a little look ahead will come into play but not enough to change the outcome. Close at first then CC pulls away comfortably. CC 35 - RC 20

Wilmington (4-1) @ Herscher (1-4) - Easiest game to pick this week. Herscher won't be able to hang. Cats 42 - Tigers 14

Manteno (3-2) @ Peotone (2-3) - Manteno has lost to a good team, and an above average team. They then proceeded to rip off 3 wins in a row against the bottom of the ICE. Peotone and Manteno had similar results against Plano so not much intel there (just based on the score, maybe someone who watched both games has more insight). I'll be honest and say that I have no idea what to expect. I think this game can be lost by the 'tone and they still have a shot at playoffs because their last third of the season is in their favor. If Manteno can pull this off I think they have a solid shot at playoff berth. I'm rambling because I have no idea......Let's say things get crazy in the Route 50 Rumble..........Manteno with the upset 28-26

Streator (1-4) @ Lisle (1-4) - I have no clue in this one either. Playoffs is bye-bye for both. I'm not sure why I always think higher of Lisle than they show. For some odd reason I think Streator will score. Lisle has given up a lot of points to everyone except a putrid week 1 opponent. Bulldogs in a shootout 49-38
