22nd annual Playoff Bracket Challenge notes

I will add in the results from each day's games whenever I get back from covering a game so the leaderboards for each class are updates pretty much immediately. In the first round if it says you have any sort of issue with the time stamp of your bracket nit being valid let me know....it's an eternal clock issue with Bracketmaker...and I have a day and time stamp when every entry is submitted so as long as your picks got in BEFORE 4:01PM yesterday you are all good.

Quincy 49 Chatham 42, Final

Upset alert. Chatham had the ball first and scored, but Quincy has scored all three possessions. Chatham can’t afford to fall any farther behind.

Chatham scores again to get to within 21-13, but Quincy is driving again.

This has become a shootout. Quincy up 28-19 and driving again midway through the 2nd. Chatham can’t stop the pass.

Quincy ahead 35-19 at half and will get the second half kickoff. Their Soph QB has already thrown for 350 yards.

North Suburban, CSL, MSL, DuKane and DVC Conference Strength

I have been analyzing the conference strength of the NSC, CSL, MSL, DuKane and DVCs conferences. (You could throw in the Fox Valley, Upstate 8 and Nic-10 but those are even harder since they are closed).

North Suburban
*Key non conference win: Warren over Maine South
**Key non conference loss St. Charles North over Lake Zurich
***Perennial strong conference that usually has 1-2 teams make a semi-final run.

Central Suburban
*Key non conference win:GBS over Palatine (Think an injury was key here)
**Key non conference loss Warren over Maine South
***Maine South has been the respect earner in this conference for 20 years. GBS has had some nice runs as had Deerfield.

Mid Suburban League
*Key non-conference wins: Prospect over Maine South and Palatine over St Charles North
**Key non-conference loss: Palatine to GBS
***Prospect and Palatine have earned some respect the last 20 years...Hersey is a newcomer....

DuKane
*Key win: St Charles North over Lake Zurich, Wheaton North over Providence
**Key loss: Palatine over StcN
***New conference with Strength.

DuPage
*Key win: NN over HF
**Key Loss: Plainfield North over Naperville Central
***This is not your traditional DVC

I now see why ranking have been so hard to figure out this year. Who are the pretenders from these conferences??

ICE Playoffs Week 1

Old Wilmatucky was pretty busy these last few weeks, but luckily my schedule has cleared up just in time for playoffs to start. Nice win by Lisle in week 9 to get a playoff spot. I think this week is pretty straight forward.

2A

#14 Palos Heights (Chicago Christian) (5-4) at #3 Wilmington (8-1) - I believe these two played back in like 02 or 03. Anyway, I think PHCC is overmatched. They did not beat anybody that good and they got blown out by any decent team they played. I think Wilmo rolls with ease. 42-14

3A

#16 Peotone (5-4) at #1 Princeton (9-0) - If Peotone was as good as I anticipated at the start of the year I think it would be a game. I don't see the 'Tone hanging here. Not sure how Princeton finishes up but this one will not provide any trouble and it should be a decent tune up of the 'Tone. Princeton by several 49-24

#11 Lisle (Sr.) (5-4) at #6 Byron (8-1) - Haven't these two played like every year in the playoffs? It sure seems like it. Either way Byron is a better team and it will show this weekend. Tough team for a 6 seed. Byron wins handily. 42-7

15 Chicago (Carver) (5-3) at #2 Braidwood (Reed-Custer) (9-0) - Nothing to be said here. If RC clocked every team so far this will be no different. Could score 200 if they wanted. RC by whatever they want.

4A

#9 Wood River (East Alton) (6-3) at #8 Coal City (6-3) - GOTW! Evenly matched teams. Gotta think the Coalers had a tougher schedule. Helps them to not have to drive 4 hours south for this one. I think this is the only game that COULD go either way. It won't though. CC by 2. 35-21

I see 3 ICE teams moving on. Hopefully some weird stuff happens and they can all make a run.

Feeto's Friday Upset Special.....

It's playoff time, and if it's ok with crusader_of_90 I'll go on with the thread that I started over 15 years ago. Quickly, an upset is not determined by the IHSA seeding. It goes by who is favored to win. This week's upset is....... The unranked, 6-3 Raiders of Bollingbrook, over the #13 ""Swagger High" Hawks of Maine South. This class 8a match up is going to be amazing. Freshman fenom QB Jonas Williams is the real deal for the Brook. Will he and his receiving corps be enough to get past MS???? Yes. This is still a very young MS team, and they have not been scoring points in typical Maine South fashion. I like the Brook tonight. Final score....... Bollingbrook 42 - Maine South 28. That's this week's upset. What are your thoughts and who is your upset?

ICE week 6

Peotone (3-2) @ Streator (2-3) - Peotone took a tough one on the chin last week but we finally got the question of Streator's validity answered. Peotone bounces back and continues ahead in the drive for 7. Peotone 35-12

Manteno (1-4) @ Coal City (3-2) - Manteno finally got a win but unfortunately that fuzzy feeling won't happen again this week. CC with ease. 42-10

Lisle (2-3) @ Herscher (1-4) - Lisle needs to pick it up and this is game they need to win if they want any shot at the playoffs. After seeing their performance this year I have to admit I was a little high on them at start of year and I do not see them qualifying unless somehow 4 win teams start getting in. Interesting fact the game against Streator was the only game so far where both teams scored. Lisle has been shut out in every loss and one shut out win. Will this game be close with both teams scoring? I don't know but I do think the Lions beat up the Tigers. 21-14

Wilmington (5-0) @ Reed-Custer (5-0) - Forget GOTW........Forget Game of the year.........This is the game of the decade.....I think RC has 2 wins against Wilmo in the Reents era. Will this be number 3? If they don't get it this year they may not be in position for another one for a long time. The comets have been crushing their opposition. Wilmington is more of a grind it out team. How will the two styles play off each other? I do know that Wilmo will have to score to win. I have to take a @Coalertown44 mentality and never pick against my home team, but this one has me nervous. WHS 28-27
