MC/BR Streaming info

I know the MC/DGN stream changed about 3 times 24 hours before the game, but here is the info off an MC page. Good news is the game will be streamed! Bad news is it’s off of NFHS as the IHSA said no to the You Tube. BUT the good news to that is the CBN (Caravan Broadcasting Network) will be using there equipment and announcers and broadcasting the game with the same quality, they hope, as the stream on You Tube. Many of you seem to have the NFHS so your set.

This is obviously financial. They let BTRV stream it on You Tube last year and they saw the thousands that tuned in and the NFHS realized they lost multiple thousands of $ possibly. And with the 6pm start time it’s the only game on and with the weather, people who don’t have a subscription will pay. All about the dough Joe!

CPL Pick 'Em Playoff Edition!!

It's Thursday. That means one thing. HOT CPL Thursday Action! Actually, there is no CPL Action tonight, leaving me having to watch the Falcons and Panthers...which, coincidentally, is very similar to sitting at Eckersall and watching a lower level CPL matchup. But, we do have CPL teams in action this week! On to the picks!

CPL Playoffs

Simeon vs Bye

I've heard you can't teach a cat how to have kittens. You also can't get a Gately dog if the stadium isn't open for the CPL Playoffs.
Simeon!

Taft vs Phillips
Taft's offense has been on a tear the last couple of weeks in the CPL Playoffs. I'd roll with one of those "racking up so many points that they might break the scoreboard this week" jokes, but since it's at Lane, the scoreboard is probably broken already.
Taft!

BONUS CPL IHSA PLAYOFF PICKS

Morgan Park vs Naz

It's said that the only guarantees in life are death and taxes. I'd say is also guaranteed that if Morgan Park loses this one, there will be a whole bunch of complaining about the terrible referees.
MP!

Kenwood vs Lamont
The one and only time I spent any time in Lamont, I was driving down that main road and saw an old school big Blatz Beer neon over a bar sign. Blatz was my grandpa's beer, so I stopped...Cash only. Blatz on tap. God Damned Glorious. Needless to say I stayed awhile at Tom's. Honestly, it's going to be cold. Lamont is going to roll. If I was heading that way, I would just roll in there, grab 33 Blatz drafts and try to get it on the livestream.
Lamont!

Dwight & Seneca Departing VVC...

Seneca and Dwight have announced that they are departing the Vermilion Valley Conference and will be co-founders of the soon to be Chicago Prairie Football League, according to Dwight AD Cathy Ferguson who told The Champaign News-Gazette today

Ferguson said the duo will be joined in the new group by Elmwood Park, Norridge Ridgewood, Ottawa Marquette, Peru St. Bede, Melrose Park Walther Christian and Westmont.

"At this time, we are not officially sanctioned by the IHSA," Ferguson said, "but the process has begun."

The VVC North and South divisions will be merged into a single, closed-conference group of Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, Clifton Central, Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman, Hoopeston Area/Armstrong-Potomac, Iroquois West, Momence, Oakwood, Salt Fork, Watseka and Westville.

Travel distance was cited as the key reason both Seneca and Dwight decided to end their involvement with the alliance.

Sterling at Sycamore - 5A Quarterfinal

Sterling travels to Sycamore on Saturday in the 5A quarterfinals. On paper and from what I've seen on video, Sycamore is the best team Sterling has faced this season, which is how it should be as you move along the tournament trail. Hoping for warmer temps than what the current forecast is predicting. At least it is supposed to be dry.

WB6/TRAC Round 3 preview

Well, and then there were three left. The TRAC’s two teams stayed alive in Princeton and Rockridge, both winning pretty convincingly. In the WB6, only Sterling is left as Quincy put up a good fight, but eventually fell to Lemont. If Quincy learns how to play defense next season, look out! Moline lost a complete heartbreaker in 4(!!!) overtimes to Yorkville, coming up 1 yard short of being in the quarterfinals.

Sterling over Sycamore: Ok, maybe I am homering a bit here with this but I think this Sterling team has something Sterling teams the past few years have been missing: Grit. In both of Sterling’s losses, they were out talented, but they had the moxie to get up off the mat each time and swing back. Sycamore is (in my opinion) more talented and larger in size, but Sterling has had to fight this season. I think the Golden Warriors pull it off late to win it. Either way, it will be fun to see old conference mates square off again.

IC Catholic over Princeton: A double dose of “score points and play good defense”. I can see this game going one of two ways. It’s either gonna be a defensive slug fest where points where be a premium or the offenses come to play and this turns into a track meet where they are replacing the light bulbs at halftime. Either way, this game should be close. I think IC Catholic is just a little better than the Tigers, but it would not surprise me if the Tigers get some revenge on the few times IC has ended their season in the past.

Maroa-Forsyth over Rockridge: Maroa-Forsyth is a machine that has spent most of the season stomping other teams. That being said, I don’t see them stomping on Rockridge, but I also don’t see Rockridge outscoring the Trojans. I think Maroa-Forsyth takes this one by a couple scores.

Super sad and also excited we are getting to the end of the season. Can’t wait to see who takes the crown’s this year, especially since 6 or 8 champions last year either didn’t make it or are out. Gonna be sad when it is all over though and have to settle into just grumbling at the cold weather and lack of football til next summer rolls around.

618 Talk: MVC Shocks the State

A weekly thread to talk about 618(southern Illinois) teams.

I went 9-1 last week, I think everyone else missed that 1(Mascoutah over Highland). I nearly missed another huge upset with SHG @ Waterloo(more on that after this week's games)

6A: #7 Crete Monee(9-2) @ #6 East St. Louis(9-2)
Saturday at 2:00
The Flyers will soar into this one fresh off a 40-0 decision over Normal West(who had given up 18 points all year outside of mighty Richmond-Burton). Crete looks like another impressive team that will try to slay Goliath. The Warrior have an effective looking offense, a must if you want to score on this Flyers defense. I still like the Flyers however, who have outscored Illinois opponents 270-7 when at home this year.

5A: #3 Peoria(10-1) @ #7 Mascoutah(7-3)
Saturday at 2:00
Mascoutah surprised everyone last week after reversing a 56-0 loss into a 55-42 win over conference foe Highland.
Was it because of a bunch of injuries? No, both teams had their main core in both games
Was it with trick plays? Mascoutah scored on a trick play one time.
So how did they do it? The Indians offense was almost exclusively focused around their two best playmakers: Quincy Hall and Allen Middelton. Middelton, an SIUC commit, was used several times from the wildcat. He used these extra touches to finish with 194 yards on the ground, 49 yards passing, and 85 caught yards. He finished with 4 touchdowns(counting a throw) and 3 of them came from 49 yards+.
McKendree commit Quincy Hall also had a career day in the upset of the year. Hall finished with 210 yard and 3 touchdowns off of just 9 offensive touches. Like Middelton, Hall also plays defense and led the team with 11 tackles and closed out the game with a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.

Now, they enter as underdogs again. Peoria loves to put up points, try for onside kicks, and go for two. The Lions were only good at one of those last week, but it was all they needed to win 48-21 over Kankakee. I expect a shootout this week and it may come down to how well Peoria fares on the onside kicks/two point conversions. I'll pick a tough to beat at home Mascoutah team to continue their momentum with another upset.

4A: #4 Rochester(10-1) @ #1 Carterville(11-0)
Saturday at 1:00
Calpreps has the line as Rochester -7, without factoring in Carterville's homefield advantage. That's probably a lot closer than most of the state projects this one to be, given the Rockets pedigree. Rochester had the more impressive regular season schedule, but let's look at what each team has done in the postseason.
Rochester opened with a sloppy half against an underrated Effingham squad, before winning 45-14. They followed that up with a 45-0 trouncing of Breese.
Carterville has not scored as many points, but they have still been highly impressive. In the first round, they sent Geneseo home on a long bus ride with a 36-7 loss. They faced another high pedigree opponent last week, when they shutout Coal City in 22-0 fashion.
So we are left with a defense on a roll against a high scoring offense. Who wins that battle? Probably Rochester, but watch out if the weather turns bad or windy.
I will still take Rochester in this one, but it is worth keeping an eye on.
An interesting note: Rochester has only played on the road once in the last five weeks. A three hour(one way) road trip becomes a little more daunting with that in mind.

2A: #14 Althoff(7-4) @ #2 Johnston City(11-0)
Saturday at 4:00
Why can't Cinderella keep dancing? Althoff, stumbled into the postseason at 5-4 record that included a win by forfeit. But their 4A/5A schedule has paid major dividends as they swing through the 2A bracket. The Crusaders won in round 2 with a 26-14 verdict over Red Bud, who scored on two fourth quarter pick sixes. Althoff had all three of their touchdowns supplied by Jordan Lewis, with two scores coming on defense. He snagged a 27 yard catch for the only offensive score of this game.
Standing in the way of the glass slipper Crusaders is an undefeated Johnston City squad. The Indians have dominated all year, having won all but one game by multiple possessions. They have not been held to less than 28 points this season, finishing with that total twice.
Both Calpreps and Massey have this 618 vs 618 game coming down to a single possession. I think if that comes true, Althoff wins this one. The Crusaders have played 5 games that came down to 6 points or less and have a 4-1 record in them. As aforementioned, Johnston City has only played one game within a possession(a 33-28 win over Sesser-Valier).
