DuKane Conference

The non-conference slate has been completed and hopefully the teams feel as if they got most if not all of the wrinkles out heading into conference. What's everyone's feelings going into week 3 for this power conference?

Batavia-close loss to LWE this past week, they're a legitimate conference and state championship contender.
Wheaton North-might have rated them a little too high during the preseason, they get SCN this week, so we'll see where they really stand.
St Charles North-2 nice wins for this program, could this be the year they get over the hump.
Geneva-another team with a 2-0 start, they're on a trajectory that if they end up in 6A they could be a major problem.
Glenbard North- 2 losses to start the year but they'll get healthy this week with a visit from SCE.
WWS-I predicted 3-6 and with 6 pts on the year you have to wonder how things will shake out this year. Huge game vs Geneva this Friday.
St Charles East-loss to Wheaton Academy....no bueno. This could be an 0-9 campaign for the the Fighting Saints.
Lake Park-I gave them no respect this preseason and they're 2-0 to start the year. Things get a lot tougher from here on out though.

GOW-St Charles North @ Wheaton North

Flyers @ Humble Atascosita

Not much talk on this one...

I follow the #txhsfb scene and the Eagles are currently ranked #7 in Class 6A (Texas Largest Classification)

Pretty good QB in Zion Brown, solid RB in Tory Blaylock, and they have a big OL. Coming off two good wins over Dickinson and Katy

While the Flyers are coming off that big win over Saint Frances.

What say you Flyers fans on this one???

CPL Pick Em Week 3

How is it week 3 already? I don't know about you all, but the season is flying by way too quickly. Need to slow things down, including the clocks at some of these games. My biggest takeaway from this past week's game are the amount of times that the clock is improperly running....somehow we need referees to not wind the clock so damn much! On to the week 3 games. Normally we highlight Thursday and Friday games, but this week let's just focus on Saturday.

Dunbar Mightymen vs. Dusable Panthers, Saturday 10:00 AM at Eckersall
The location choice of this game illustrates the beauty of the CPL. Dunbar is located on 30th and King Drive. Dusable is located on 49th and Wabash. Therefore, it obviously makes sense that this game would be at Eckersall, which is on 82nd street (also over 2 miles east of either school). If we wanted to find a central location for this game, it seems like Mandrake Park (referenced by my buddy GhostoftheGhost this season) would have been a better location. Oh well, can't win em all. Unless you are the Mightymen, then you'll win it all, and you'll take Dusable Lake Shore Drive home!

Phoenix Firebirds vs. UCCS Woodlawn Maroons, Saturday 1:30 at Lane
The redcoats at Lane are going to be pumped for this game. A team whose nickname is a shade of red!!! What could be hotter than that?? Oh wait, fire is hotter. Phoenix takes care of business, which pisses off the redcoats, but what pisses them off more is that Phoenix will make sure that their lead stays below 40 because they want the redcoats to work as long as humanly possible.

Steinmetz Silver Streaks vs. Prosser Falcons, Saturday 3:00 at Steinmetz
The Metz knows what they are doing! You want a slot all to yourself in the CPL, let's go Saturday at 3:00 (someone else actually is in that spot last week, but that game doesn't make this post). What exactly is a silver streak? After a deep dive, I discovered that it is a tribute to the namesake of the school, who was an electrical engineer. Apparently, a student devised the school symbol of a lightning bolt and wrote silver streaks inside the lightning bolt. No one knows exactly why it was included. Well, if you can't figure out what your nickname means, how can you figure out how to win a football game?? Because it's CPL, that's how! Take the Metz and please don't go streaking!

Lindblom Eagles vs. Noble Johnson Pumas, Saturday 4:15 at Sarah Goode
Fall is in bloom and the leaves are turning colors! Oh wait, that hasn't happened yet, global warming has kept it hotter than hell at football games so far this season! Maybe that's why it still feels like it is week 1. Fall is the best season, but can't get here if summer won't go away! No bloom (unless it's a bloomin onion) means no win for the Eagles. Take the Pumas and go buy yourself some Puma shoes after the game at the Ford City mall on Cicero avenue.

Game of the Week: Noble Academy Griffins vs. Noble Muchin Mountain Lions, Saturday 4:00 at Winnemac
Last week, we referenced CPL teams making their debut in week 2. Well, hopefully we have one of those in week 3! Noble Academy was supposed to make their debut last week at St. Laurence, but forfeited that game. That means there are no film sessions for the Mountain Lions this week. If they want to watch their own film, it may not be any better as they have been outscored 109-6 by Argo and United. So, we have a team making their debut and a team that has scored 6 points on the year. I don't know about you all, but this has a recipe for a barnburner game at Winnemac that will come down to missing a 2 point conversion because neither team has a kicker. Grab yourself an iced pumpkin cream chai latte from Starbucks and get ready to watch a classic! Take the Mountain Lions!

week 3 cancellations/postponements/forfeits for health issues?

Edgy,

Are you hearing anything about any potential forfeits or rescheduling due to recent covid outbreaks? Hearing that a couple northern burb schools (one of which is often discussed on the board) currently have nearly half their team out with flu-like symptoms, including pretty much their entire O-line.

Don't want to post the name of the schools to prevent world war 3 on the board.

SWSC Chat

Not a ton of SWSC fans, of course we have Bones and Corey and a few other East guys, but the Red has been better recently and Brook and the Porters look solid early…
Can the Red make any kind of run this year in the playoffs? Will Brook or Lockport challenge the Griffin?

Some good early season wins so far from most of these league….
Thoughts?

WB6 and TRAC week 3

WB6 Week 3 Look ahead

Indian Creek (IN) over Galesburg: The Silver Streaks looked bad against a good team and good against a bad team. Not sure what to think of this team yet. Now they take a bus to Indiana to play a 0-2 Indian Creek team. I’m going with Indian Creek simply because they are at home and Galesburg has been up and down in their two games so far. Hope im wrong though.

Geneseo over Moline: Game of the week pick right here! Geneseo has looked like a team on a mission, playing good defense and being able to run and pass the ball. Moline is coming off being blown out at home by Benet. Moline gets another shot to defend their house as Geneseo will go on the road for the first time. The pads will be cracking in this one. I give the nod to Geneseo with their ability to throw the ball.

Quincy over Rock Island: Rocky’s defense has improved but Quincy is operating on another level. If Rock Island wants to stay in the game, they need some turnovers and the offense needs to get out of 1st gear. I think Quincy puts this one away by Halftime.

Sterling over United Township: UTHS goes from last weeks cupcake game to playing a 0-2 Sterling team looking to right the ship. Sterling showed a lot more life last week and traditionally has had UT’s number. Some points could be put up in this one by both teams, but I think Sterling wins by a few scores.

TRAC Week 3 Look ahead

Princeton over Newman: Princeton lost a heartbreaker last week against Morrison and will be looking to right the ship and get back to showing they are a top team in the conference and state. Newman has won two tough games with very solid defense. This game pits a top offense (Princeton) vs a top defense (Newman). Princeton wins a close one as Newman’s offense has yet to really show up.

Kewanee over Mendota: The Boilermakers are firing on all cylinders right now while the Trojans have been blown out two straight weeks. Sadly, I don’t think that changes for them as Kewanee takes control of the game early and puts it away by halftime.

Bureau Valley over Hall: Both teams are coming into the game 1-1 and this game is big in regards to who creates a better path to the playoffs and who is going to have a tougher road. Both teams have been playing solid football. I think this will be a good, close game, but I give the nod to BV as I think their defense gets a stop late to allow them to win by a touchdown.

Morrison over Orion: A battle of two undefeated and red hot teams in week 3? Yes please! This should be another good game with Morrison looking to ride the wave of their win over Princeton, and Orion looking to prove they belong at the top of the conference. The game is at Morrison, which is why I give the Mustangs the nod in a back and forth game.

Monmouth-Roseville over Erie-Prophetstown: The battle of the hyphenated names! EP has played tough in their two losses, but have only scored once this season so far. M-R won a close, tough game last week against BV. EP’s defense will keep them in the game for awhile, but unless they can find a way to get the ball into the endzone, M-R pulls away in the second half to win by a couple scores.

Naperville North

I had a nightmare last night. It was brisk autumn night in the northern region of Naperville. Ogden and Mill to be exact. There was a football game and I was there. Some kids Tassio, Mlady, and some nameless brolic fullback in a TE's body were running for 38 yards per carry combining for about 900 on the evening. The hapless team facing them, clad in white, red, and black.

Terrified, I woke up from that replay of the 2007 2nd round playoff game and went to the local gym. While putting up 300 on the bench some rando comes up to me and asks me what we're going to do about Bell and Williams. Immediately I ask this stranger why he's asking me about Alexander Graham and Serena. His reply, "No, goof. I'm talkin about Jacob and Luke. They're Huskies."

I left, went home and called AT&T, told them to fire up the internet. I was looking to find an informant on Naperville known only as Jorge. Couldnt find anything from Jorge, so I scoured periodicals. Turns out Bell and Williams are likely the top QB/WR combo in the state. The latter likely to hold every Northern Naperville receiver record once he graduates per the coach.

Then I checked the games, turns out NN beat HF so badly that HF nearly lost to Marian Catholic this week. Further investigation uncovered that despite the final score, 27-6, the Huskie defense only allowed the defending 8A champs, Loyola, a single offensive touchdown. One offensive trip to the end zone. This is a team with a Power 5 coach and Charlie Bliss, only scoring 1 offensive TD. That's how good the Defense is.

That is all.
