MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week I

Welcome back!
Our friends over at Gambletron have provided us with a new feature: Winning Probability. Should we transition to a pick 'em/confidence pool? Or should we stay with you vs the spread?
Either way, make your picks - if you'd like to rank them (many 99% games this week), fine. If not, cool by me. We have a Pick 'Em thread already and I don't want to step on toes.
So this week, make your picks in the traditional manner (vs the spread).

What’s up with Bolingbrook?

Same for Neuqua. Won’t ever be good again, IMO. The demographics have changed and kids who love the game go to St Francis, Naz, JCA, etc. Having an indifferent school admin doesn’t help.
How are neuqua demographics changing? Every school is seeing that but in different ways. Some more city move ins while others have a large Asian population growing in their schools.

Maine East 34, Aurora East 6

Congrats to the Blue Demons as I have many ties to that school.

Their all-time best player was on our varsity staff @ Carmel Catholic in my HS years, and he was great!

One tough MF’r.
Guy Boliaux I'm assuming.

He was a senior when I was a freshman. He was the varsity heighweight wrestler and I was the freshman team's heavyweight (185+lbs) wrestler. I had to practice with him one day - he literally picked me up in(ironically) a fireman's carry, held me parallel to the ground above his shoulders, and just dropped me. Ouch!

But football wise they went 9-1 that year and beat Maine South 41-18.. ah the good old days...

Maine East 34, Aurora East 6

It appears Maine East may have its best team in many decades. The Blue Demons might win as many as three games, which would be a significant accomplishment considering they are accustomed to winning 0 or 1 game in recent years.

And I'm not being sarcastic. I graduated from Maine East and would very much like the guys to experience some success.
I too am a Maine East grad and played football, but can't judge them by this one game. The game is on demand on NFHS if you want to see it. Two things:
1.) East Aurora, who made the playoffs last year for the first time since 1982, have apparently reverted to historical form. They were not good.
2.) East Aurora kept coughing up the ball deep on their own side. ME was up 20-0 on maybe 60 yards of offense. THAT SAID, the difference was they were actually good enough to take advantage of those turnovers - in the past those opportunities would usually turn into zero points.

They've beaten Round Lake the last two times and came very close to beating Niles North. Plus Wheeling, who got walloped last night. Dare to dream... they could potentially go 4-5, but more realistically I could actually see them starting 2-0 and going 3-6 for the season. I think Edgy should put them in the "Other Teams" of the top 30 if they beat Round Lake next week just as a feel good 👍

LWE 49 MS 22 Final

Just felt like LWE was on a different level overall and especially on its OL and DL. I was surprised to see how often LWE passed the ball when the run game looked like it was clicking. Looks like they are going to keep the ball in QB Williams hands all season long to make plays.
My take is Williams is the real deal for sure. He is definitely a difference maker. That said he and East are still adjusting and getting to know one another. I saw two beautiful long passes from Williams that hit East receivers right on there hands that were dropped. This game was fun for East but they played sloppy at times. First game. East defense didn’t put enough pressure on MS QB especially in the 1st half. Overall a bit sloppy by both teams but entertaining if you were a Griffin fan. MS is always dangerous and they do have a lot of size and talent. I see MS rebounding and getting back to the MS we all know. East appears to have the talent to get past LA this year let’s see if they can play up to their potential.

MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week I

Carmel Catholic’s varsity pulled most starters up 49-0, just inside the end of the 1st half. GC scored on the 1st half’s final drive, with just under a minute to play. The Corsairs went to the locker room up 56-7, as they returned the ensuing KO for a TD with .25 left on the clock.

JV won 41-0.

So all-in-all, combined shut-outs in the program for 1st team defensive groups. Not bad. Hard to pressure test this opener, however.

Lake Forest presents a much bigger challenge this week, IMO.

Gift for the Argo Johnny Rain Cloud Poster: Argo Fightin Corn Products 45 -DeLaSalle 0

Nothing like the smell of the Argo Corn Products plant in the morning gentlemen after a win. Interesting score. I was wondering if the Johnny Rain Cloud who use to come out of the wood work and blast Argo all those years is still around? If so, sit back take it all in, maybe have yourself some pierogies washed down with a Modelo while you play Journey's Don't Stop Believin.

Saturday AM Poll Vibes....

Chicagoland Top 30- Dropping in my eyes after last night

Hersey Will most likely stay in the Top 30 since Warren is a very good team but losing Logan Farrell this summer for the season was a big red flag.

Palatine Yeah I just didn't see it last year from the Pirates either.... to be fair STCN is a good team but they will most likely drop out of the 30

Lake Zurich- Wow did not see this lopsided of a loss

8A

Maine South won't move down much despite the loss to LWE

Palatine- out

7A

Mount Carmel- played and lost a close game to an FCS school (sorta) depending upon Edwardsville/Glenwood result most likely remain at #1

Hersey- 50-50 right now on them in or out

6A

Providence- Bad loss for them especially with it's remaining schedule. Wheaton North is a tough team every season

Lake Zurich- out

Crete-Monee out

5A

Sterling- out and to be fair the Sterling Loyalist tried warning me.

SHG Out but CBC is a strong OOS opponent

4A

Murphysboro- surprise los to Carbondale out

TV for Cascia? SR 27, Sandburg 17 (Final)

I didn't see your post about the burrito place. Nicely done, Crusader! I lived around 61st and St. Louis. Played Marquette Park over a thousand times, it seems. Not sure if you ever went to Maravilla's on 63rd and St. Louis--right next door to the police stations. Letticia left 63rd and Sacramento and opened up her own at Maravilla. Good stuff!
I have been to the one by the police station too. I lived there for six months in 1997 until I locked in employment. If we ate out, it was burritos or pizza.

63rd and Sacramento, my friend. The best! I am not Rock, but thank you for the "congrats." It looks as though The Beast is the real thing. When was the last time MS lost by double digits? Good experience, though. Now, you know what you're against.
For me it was not about losing, it was the way we lost. We lacked effort, conditioning and execution. Very disappointed. Fortunately it’s a long season and the coaches will figure it out.

What’s up with Bolingbrook?

Transfer portal which was initiated by administrative decisions for change. As stated before W/L was not a consideration but for talented athletes to be penalized or hindered in that decision forces parents hands to change? Akin to travel teams in other sports?
Honestly not sure if it's on that decision. They completely collapsed in '22. I think if the defense was even slightly below average the past two years we're probably okay today. But once QB1 left (why stay?) why would WR1 stay with that uncertainty? Not sure why DB1 left, but at that point it's a trend.

To be fair they actually did compete last night. Got stuffed at the goalline at the half could've made it 27-13 (or 12 if the PAT got blocked again). The D actually made stops. I left early in the 2nd half when QB2 fumbled the first play on a hand off and it was returned for 6 so not sure where the other HF points came.

HF will be a good team. They have some size to them and some speed. I don't want it to be lost in the discussion. This is a top 25 team in the state and Chicagoland certainly.

No it doesn’t kids with talent can be successful at any school, transferring is more about ego. Listen to Edgy talk about Jeff Allen on the Barstool podcast as an example.
