WB6 - Thursday edition

WB6 ended up with two "games" tonight. I use the term "games" loosely....

Quincy 45 - Galesburg 0: Braydn Little now has over 100 career TD passes as he goes 18-21 for 378 and 4 TD's as the Blue Devils hammer the Silver Streaks. Galesburg had only 24 yards at the half and only threatened to score once when a Galesburg defender picked up an errant back wards pass and had to be tracked down by Little to save a TD. Other than that, pure dominance as Quincy goes to 6-0. Galesburg falls to 1-5.

And if you thought that was bad...

Moline 56 - Thornton 3: In game that never should have been scheduled, Moline raced out to a 42-0 halftime lead, holding Thornton to -14 yards until the Moline freshmen and sophomores got to get in. Moline even let one of their senior Olinemen get a 1st half TD. Big guys need love too. This was nothing more than a light tune up game for United Township next week. Moline goes to 4-2 now.

The rest of the conference plays tomorrow night.
Any specific reason why they moved the games to last night? Also I have a feeling this will not be a good playoff year for the WB6 from several of those in the know....time will tell

IHSA Top 50 Programs

I like your list, but I'd also add LWE. They have made 24 straight playoff appearances every single year of their existence.
It really depends on the criteria used in the rankings. Without a doubt, LWE is a top ten program right now, but due to the fact they have only been around 25 years, not sure if they are a top ten program historically. We shall see how they handle it.

I could be completely wrong about this, but multiple veteran CPL coaches and sports admin types have told me over the years that those schools are left out of the playoffs as a trade-off for CPS getting to keep the Prep Bowl. Let us keep the Prep Bowl and the CPL Playoffs, and we won't allow a lot of those lower performing teams to qualify for the state playoffs. Most CPL coaches want everyone to be in the playoffs, which is why there was a CPL Conference reorg a couple years ago which really upped the amount of IHSA playoff eligible teams.

I always assumed the restriction on lower CPS divisions getting playoff bids was because those programs generally have roster sizes and quality of play that would not provide any type of meaningful playoff experience were one of them to get a bid.

I always thought it was a common sense decision to protect the players on those teams and prevent even worse mismatches than we already see in round 1.

Is there a widespread sentiment that I am not familiar with that a lot more of these CPS divisions should be playoff eligible? I just haven't heard that clamoring from any corner and am curious why two different people in this thread seem to be suggesting it as a positive.

Perhaps my assumptions are incorrect and those divisions wouldn't be totally overwhelmed in the playoffs, but I have operated for several decades assuming it was a mutually beneficial decision to keep those divisions excluded.
As long as you stand behind a public acknowledgement that Chicago Public Schools suck at football, I'm good with your stance on this.

However, my understanding of the CPS limit of 2 was related to their inability to transport the teams which do qualify.

Using last year's Chicago Southshore (4A last year) as an example...they were 6-2 and did not qualify. Yet Chicago Ag and Chicago Phoenix did qualify in 4A. Both had 5-4 records and were beaten convincingly in the 1st round. Massey predicted South Shore would handily beat both of those teams.

I am a fan of giving 6 win teams a shot. But I do accept the notion Chicago public school football performs at a classification no less than 2 classifications below their enrollment level.

I do agree that CPS cheats its students out of a potential playoff due to their antiquated limit on playoff eligible teams as dictated by the CPS.

Districts is the answer
It's comical how people will argue in support of districts based upon the increased travel imposed upon a progressively decreasing potential 5 game post season schedule on the playoff bound schools and then forget districts impose 80% more travel on ALL schools which do not make the playoffs over a 9 game season.

Keep it the way it is today.

If the rest of the schools want playoffs they can start their own playoff system with the rest of the schools.
Let em join 8-man…

And a BIG NO thanks on Districts, especially when those discussions don’t involve common sense (ie travel and not allowing multiple classes in same district).
