Higher seeds should get the home game.

Even more reason to use calpreps. In a game of minor differences where home field gives +3 it should be more essential to seed the teams by who's better to ensure the best teams make it to the conference championships.

But you're getting closer. Parity exists in HS football too. Sure you look at Loyola and say they're the best based on your eye test, but their record says otherwise and so does their opponent's this week. Neither one with their losses had an argument coming in of being the best.
The parity that exists in HS football is not close to what it is in the NFL. Thats not even debatable and no one should ever try and make that argument.

I am not using, or even suggesting, my eye test can say any one team is the best. Thats why I suggested using some combination of composite computer rankings, polls etc. Even if that would just be for the top 4 or 8 to ensure those matchup dont occur before the semi or quarterfinal rounds. With the goal being prioritizing accuracy of the seedings vs simply transparency of an imprecise system.

West Aurora @ MS

WA would have been average team in Southwest Prairie at best. Left to go win in a terrible football conference and did what they hoped. Had a great season but most of SP conference would have rolled that whole conference as well.
West Aurora defeated Huntley 31-21 in the 8A playoffs. Huntley was an average team in the Fox Valley Conference. The Fox Valley Conference is a better conference than the Southwest Prairie West Conference. It is therefore logical to conclude West Aurora would have probably been better than an average team in the Southwest Prairie West Conference. They probably would have finished third behind Oswego and Minooka.

West Aurora also convincingly beat Glenbard East 45-20. Glenbard East, in turn, defeated Willowbrook, a team comparable to Plainfield South (both of them having lost close games to Downers Grove South). Willowbrook finished in second place in the West Suburban Gold Conference and also defeated NIC-10 Conference champion Hononegah (unbeaten at the time) in the playoffs. West Aurora would have easily won the Southwest Prairie East Conference.

Friday night quarterfinal games

REJOICE!!! I’m leaning towards attending Naperville Central at Lyons Township, does anyone have any intel on this one? I saw LT once at DGN earlier this year and they look great he part. No studs, just a well coached group of guys that play very good team football
Is the Stevenson at LWE game the better choice ? Where should i go Friday ?
I’m also hitting a game Saturday, still undecided on that too, but leaning DGN at Batavia, I’ve never been to a game at Batavia

CS8 Predictions-Week 8

RocketNation,

I understand the position you have taken with respect to the weekly Central State Eight thread, admire the position you have taken, and respect you for sticking with it. However, I do also want to let you know how much you and your views have been missed... at least by me.

I hope you feel free to occasionally comment on other topics that arise on this board, and, if it is not too much work, might consider resuming the weekly thread next year.

All the best,
Pierre Garesche / Alexander32

Bears

The stadium really makes no difference to me whether they do it or not.

In fact I am at the point I wish the Bears and WS would leave the city.

I rather travel to GB now and watch real football.
I have been saying for years that I wished Chicago had an AFC team to compete with the Bears. But you know the McCaskeys would fight that to the death. The losing is one thing. That is bad enough. But the way this ownership craps on the fans is criminal. They do NOT care about winning. I, and a lot of Bears fans would be OK with down years if we felt like the organization was at least trying to win. These people are clueless and an embarrassment.

I just wish the fans would stop showing up right now in numbers that can't be ignored. I really don't know what the season ticketholders think. They just keep on buying this garbage year after year. Maybe they think the minute they give up the tickets the team will get good all of a sudden and they will miss out. I don't know. But to me it is such a waste of money and more importantly, it's a waste of time.

But, this is so typical of Chicago as a whole.

Maine South @ Loyola

Get to Meiers early ! I think this is a defensive battle for sure and defense wins you Championships. I like the Rambler chances in this one. But Main South is Main South and I am sure Coach Inserra will have the Hawks ready to go. The fact MS made a change mid-year in the QB must mean they really like him. It has been a while since these two programs have played a game like this and glad to see it happen - given the great games of the past. For either team not a walk in the park.

CS8 Playoffs Thread - Done and Dusted, Just Like Maroa...

Almost no one in the U-High camp this year would've thought that this team would be favored to make it to the semifinals. The turnaround at U-High has made Brody Walworth one of the most respected coaches in the Bloomington-Normal area, and it's well deserved. The classes of '22-'24 for the Pioneers have also earned their spots of respect in the great turnaround. Outside of the obvious post season run, one of the most impressive statistics from the Pioneers is the roster, in 2021, Walworth began with 40 kids on the roster, and this year, he sits at around 95 players, with ~24 being freshmen.

Maine South @ Loyola

Yep, he was the one who ‘unfortunately’ injured their all-state LB on a MS kickoff. No intention to injure, just a big hit and losing that LB was arguably the turning point of the game.
Actually, I think the turning point came two weeks prior when Palatine's quarterback Oles, broke his collarbone late in the game against Notre Dame.

Higher seeds should get the home game.

So would you feel better if Loyola beat Marist next week instead of this week?

Byron is different since 3A isn't seeded 1-32. I posted the 1-32 seeding for 3A and that would have had them meeting Montini in the finals, as it should have been. In that scenario Montini was seeded #14 and they would have made the finals as a 14 seed so their seed wouldn't have mattered.

Also, using Calpreps, they have 7 CPS teams in the top 32 in 5A. Does that make sense?
You have written: "Also, using CalPreps, they have 7 CPS teams in the top 32 in 5A. Does that make sense?"

Yes, it makes sense. You were apparently looking at the CalPreps rankings of the 32 teams that qualified for the 5A bracket. If 7 CPS teams qualified for the playoffs (in the 5A bracket), then CalPreps will rank those 7 teams.

For example, if you had looked at CalPrep's state-wide rankings you would have found Providence Catholic ranked 58th. You would have found Westinghouse ranked 257th. And yet, when you looked at the CalPreps playoff rankings for the 5A classification you found Westinghouse in the top 32 whereas Providence was not in the top 32. Why was that the case? For no other reason than the fact that Westinghouse qualified for the 5A playoffs and Providence did not. In the rankings you were looking at, CalPreps was only ranking the 32 teams that had qualified for the 5A playoffs.

You may note that the 7 Chicago Public League teams you referred to, were the 7 worst ranked teams out of the 32 teams shown in the rankings.

It makes perfect sense.

Bears

Agreed, as well. They spent a lot of money on the old Arlington Park property. I'm still not convinced they are serious about the alleged plan to build another stadium on the lakefront. I don't trust a word the guy says. Seems like a leverage play to me to get the property taxes lower in Arlington Heights. And, I see no scenario where the Bears get public money to help build a new stadium. There simply is no public support for that, nor will there be, regardless of who holds the governor's office.
Just wasting time....they can figure it out with the school districts and the taxes.

Higher seeds should get the home game.

Why not MaxPreps? That's what other states use. My issue with those two is we don't know what goes into their algorithm and how different aspects of the season are weighted, such as injuries.
Just so you know, MaxPreps uses the CalPreps ratings/rankings. So, if you use the MaxPreps rankings, then you are actually using the CalPreps rankings.

The above fact is easy to verify. One can go to the CalPreps website and write down the top ten teams and their ratings, and then go to the MaxPreps website and compare the two. They are identical.
